How to Get Involved

Set up a screening of an environmental-ly-themed movie. Consider supplement-ing the screening with an environmen-talist/ expert speakers who can lead a Q&A following the film.

Create an eco-fair with local green busi-nesses and environmental organiza-tions. Not only will this inform the public of ways they can get involved, but it’s also a fun way to promote local businesses and bring your community together.

How to Get Involved Changing the world starts by changing your own little corner of it. Here are ways to participate include:

Join Earth Day Network in our effort to plant more trees. Organize a team to plant trees in your neighborhood or donate to The Canopy Project.

Urge your local elected officials to make a substantial tree planting commitment by starting a letter-writing campaign or online petition.

Lead a recycling drive to collect as much plastic, metal, and glass as possible.

Pick up trash at a local park or beach.

Invite an expert, such as a professor, a forester, agriculturist, or any environmental advocates to educate your community about climate change, the importance of trees and agricultural crops including best farming practices and about how to reduce your carbon footprint.

O UR planet is currently losing over 15 billion trees each year. That’s 56 acres of forest every minute. We’re

working to stop that trend and turn it around. We’re planting trees that help communities - especially the world’s impoverished communities sustain them-selves and their local economies. For every dollar spent on tree planting, 2.5 dollars is generated in local income and benefits. Help us restore tree cover and rebuild local economies. Every tree counts! Trees help combat climate change. They absorb excess and harmful CO2 from our atmosphere. In fact, in a single year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the same amount of CO2 produced by driving the average car 26,000 miles. Trees help us breathe clean air.

Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen

oxides, ammonia, sul-fur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and

bark.
