Empower women, Youth and Children (EARN)

End of year report 2015/2016.

EARN with Support fund from Staffs and Board Contributions is implementing a community livelihood improvement project in Lira sub-county and Adyel Division Lira district Northern Uganda. The project aims at strengthening community group’s production capacity.

With this funding EARN Uganda is directly supporting five community groups namely; Amuca Youth group, Child Mothers group Bar Apwo, Omito Community group, Can-Oroma wa group in Lira Sub-County & Kirombe, savings and loan association in Adyel Division. Each group has 30 members totaling to 150 direct beneficiaries.

The inception of activities planned for 2016 as per the agreed on Objective One: To strengthen group's capacity for Vocational skills production in livelihood and income through sustainable Art skills practices.

Increase production household income by supporting 5 groups with Vocational skills

Buying the material

Hiring the facilitators .

Improved household income through training and supporting 1 groups living with HIV, Child mothers and vulnerable youth with;

Shoes making, Bakery, Hair dressing, Motorcycle Repairs, Welding and Tailoring

Support & train 5 groups on kitchen gardening

Support & train 5 VSLA groups.

Monitoring and Evaluation;

The achievements per Activity assignments as per intervention of EARN in 5 groups in sub-counties Lira District 2016:

All the five groups do save and borrow to the members and their recovery of the credits from the members is good and last meeting all groups are agreed to divide their money at the end of January to support them in paying school fees for the children and starting up the second face of the cycle, members started small enterprises and have success stories.

Success Stories;

All this members of the Students, are the school dropout and Vulnerable youth. But thanks be to God when EARN Uganda started Youth Vocational skills and a VSLA now in the our community, I said God bless you EARN” Emmanuel. EARN Youth skills center at office now.

Stella a youth of 21 year school drop-out in senior one because of school fee, she says “ when the Vocational skills training started in the Community by EARN I also decided to join, I AM passing through training and am sure to get money after finish this three months course. I will continue with the VSLA I know I will go back to school” through this skills. EARN Team found out that these training can be done easily at our office as the training venues to help a mediate supervision and monitoring, also it cut more cost. we have train for three weeks so far.A

Omara Peter/Okwir Nelson youth of 24 year both school drop-out in senior three because of school fee, she says “ when the

Vocational skills training started in the Community by EARN I also decided to join, I AM passing through training and am sure to get money after finish this three months course. I will continue with the VSLA I know I will go back to school” through this skills.

A staff of EARN (Connie Amolo) says “I used to have a big problem of supporting my Brothers with school fees for now 4 years and pay hospital bills and buying drugs was very difficult but when EARN started this training with us, many people said we cannot join because it may be like other NGOs that come here and deceive us but me with some people agreed to join, now am making Bananas ships and Bread

Silvia and Sam are all living HIV postive and are now looking health and doing something for their families out of the loan from the group of Bed-gan HIV group, Sam says “ I am planning to build a small house and start a shop by the next cycle of the VSLA” thanks you EARN, any donor now can support you.

Challenges encountered;EARN had 100 active existing youths and child mothers we only managed to support 40 youths the rest of the groups not supported are having open hands for support if possible.

The HIV group of Bed-IGen lost one member and Omito community also lost one member because of lack of food, the groups had to sit down and come out with the contribution toward the burial arrangements.

We don’t have enough material for training and labor payment to our instructors.

The other Child mothers ’s like District surrounded Lira are in need of extending the project to their Area as it supports the Vulnerable Youths and child mothers in the Community to improve on their household income.There a number of people living with HIV willing to join groups as now they know they are not alone and they can still have hope and can keep their family.

Other Information.

EARN leadership and Management is wholeheartedly thankful to the Board and staffs members for this heartfelt support. From experience so far, EARN believes this project will live to extend God’s kingdom on earth and glorify His name. This is your extended hand sharing God’s love with His people.

Training women groups pupils in schools to make reusable pads to support them on menstrual hygiene management to improve on sexual reproductive health

EARN exists to provide support in WASH, Youth livelihood (empowering rural and Urban-vulnerable women groups, Child Mothers, child headed family and vulnerable School dropout) with, Sexual Reproductive Health, food Nutrition, HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons, Environment protection, Gender and human rights advocacy through good and faithful managerial practices to the rural communities of Northern Uganda.

We really so much want to improve our community in hand skills development to support their families so that unemployed Youths, Vulnerable and positive liver (HIV).
