We took our first class trip to the new Adoration Chapel!

Two weeks ago, our students began to learn about Eucharistic Adoration. They started with a discussion about Jesus’ presence in the new chapel, and ended with a class visit. Over a weeks time, all 415 students, in 22 individual classes, learned how they can spend time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration.

What did they learn?

When you enter the chapel, genuflect on two knees, bow, and make the sign of the cross.

Jesus is in the monstrance. Once Jesus becomes the Body of Christ in the host, He never leaves. This host in front of you in the Adoration Chapel is Jesus!

Kneel (or sit) silently and pray with your heart! Tell Jesus how your day is going, thank Him, read your Bible, tell Him you are sorry, pray the rosary, or just sit quietly.

A special thank you to Sister Jodene, Beth Czarnecki, and Mary Wisniewski, who led all 22 classes individually through these

discussions and chapel visits! Your inspirational teaching and guidance during our first school trip to the chapel was very spiritual and moving

for all of our students. We are so grateful for you!

What’s next? If you haven’t already, ask your children about their visit. Also, please take a few

minutes to visit the chapel yourself, or with your family! Pray quietly, or use the resources in the lobby to help guide your prayer. The chapel is open from 6:30am - 9:30pm daily.

What did our children say? These were some of the comments shared by our HA students after they visited the

adoration chapel. We were so impressed by their openness to sharing their feelings and experiences:

“I felt immersed in God’s Love.” - 7th grader “On a scale of 1-10 it was a million.” - 2nd grader “It felt great to be quiet.” “It was the first time in my life that I said the whole rosary.” - 6th grader “It seemed like heaven, full of light.” “It was a peaceful place to concentrate.” “It was the most I’ve ever felt closer to Jesus” -4th Grader “It felt holy” - 4th grader “I felt relaxed.” “It was very peaceful.” “It was spiritually cleansing.” “I loved it, can’t wait to go again.” “I loved how quiet and peaceful it was, perfect for praising God.” “It was good to pray in the middle of the day.” “I prayed for all my friends and family.” “I asked for forgiveness and I asked God to help people.” “I felt happy and I prayed for the sick and the poor.” ‘When I was kneeling down, I felt holy.” “I thought it would be dark like our church, but it was pretty and warm.”

Introducing: Family Discipleship! For the past year, our parish and school have been working on ways to collaborate and assist all of our children, youth, and families as they continue to grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. Next year, we will be offering an amazing opportunity to focus on family discipleship. Each month, families will have the opportunity to come together to participate in activities that assist in developing the habits of discipleship. Parents will also be provided tools to help their family to continue to practice our Catholic faith at home. In preparation for this change, we would like to invite you to experience this new look at Family Discipleship on Sunday, March 4th, 2018. The attached a flyer includes more information and a link that will allow you to RSVP for the event. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Teresa Tobin, Rachel Madden, or Melissa Trepte.

Athletics news ...

Athlete of the Week— Abbey Olstinske - 8th Grade

Abbey didn’t play basketball in 5th, 6th or 7th grade but decided to join the team in 8th grade. She joined to have some fun, be with friends, and learn about basketball. While Abbey isn’t the top scorer on the 8th grade team she plays every second with lots of heart and gives 100% on every play. Abbey is one of the teams top defenders and was named a starter one game as the need for strong defense was in play!

Parents or coaches - know an athlete that works hard? Every week, we would like to showcase an athlete who consistently

competes with great work ethic, team work, goal setting, and a commitment toward individual responsibility and team growth. Share their story with us ([email protected]) using the subject line, “Athlete of the Week Submission”! In addition to being featured in the Messenger, all Athlete of the Week stories will also be shared with the Catholic Herald for possible inclusion in their publication.

Track Registration—It's time to start thinking about the next HA sports season! Track registration (http://www.hanbschool.org/

athletics) is now open. The early registration deadline is March 31st and the final registration deadline is April 30th (extra $10 fee will be assessed for registrations received after March 31st). The track season will begin in mid- to late-March and run through the end of the school year. Please contact our Track Coordinator Jim Ganzer with any questions ([email protected]) about the track season or Chris Quesnell ([email protected]) with any registration-related questions.

Athletic Board Membership—We are looking for new members to add to the Athletic Board as we will be losing some

families with 8th grade graduates. We will welcome any parish families, but we especially want to invite current 4th grade families who will have children entering 5th grade next school year. Please consider coming to one of our monthly meetings this spring (February 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11) to learn more, or contact Adam Roder ([email protected]) to ask any questions or to discuss. When on the Athletic Board, you do get the added benefits of (1) your family gets free admission to home volleyball and basketball games, and (2) no more concessions / admissions duty!

Upcoming Games—We invite families with younger students to come to a home game and see what HA basketball is all

about...we have lots of opportunities this week with 24 home games! Please come out to cheer on the following HA teams in our gym: Wednesday Feb 7th: 5th grade boys tournament games at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 Thursday Feb 8th: 5th grade boys tournament games at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 Saturday Feb 10th: League games at 9:00 (5th grade boys), 10:00 (5th grade girls), 11:00 (6th grade boys), 12:30 (7th grade
