Initial Charge

Executive Order 1048

– Establishes a program for CSU admitted freshmen who have not demonstrated proficiency in mathematics and/or English as established by CSU faculty.

– As of summer 2012, incoming freshmen who have not demonstrated proficiency in English and/or mathematics will be required to begin remediation prior to the term for which they have been admitted, e.g., summer prior to fall.

SAT/ACT/EAP Criteria

Students required to participate in Early Start Program

– ELM score = less than 50

– EPT score = less than 138

If ELM/EPT scores are not on file, SAT/ACT/EAP scores will be used

– SAT Reasoning/Math Level 1/Math Level 2 = less than 550

– SAT Critical Reading = less than 410

– ACT Math = less than 23

– ACT English = less than 17

– EAP = Not Exempt

Before We Begin…New Terminology

Destination Campus

– The CSU campus where the student was admitted and has accepted admission, where an application and matriculation exists, and where the student will be seeking his/her degree

– Can also be where a student participates in ESP

Service Campus

– A CSU campus where the student enrolls and participates in the Early Start Program but is not his/her Destination Campus

Student Access to Smart Page

– Students will have access to return to Smart Page, update ESP intent

– Updates to ESP intent will be written to audit tables in Global Database to retain history

Changes to Data when ESP Intent Made

– A process will update data (EPT/ELM Status, contact information) on the Global Database

– Smart Page will display any updated messages based on logic on the page

What is the Global Database?

– A shared database that houses student data and student ESP responses from the Smart Page

– A campus will only be able to view/update student data in the Global Database based on the Destination/Service Campus Codes

– Use contact information to communicate with ESP students

– Query data

• Campus can query Global Database ; only students who belong to your campus code

• Identify number of ESP participants who will be attending your campus – Anticipate capacity

• Identify number of students participating in English/Math – Assist with scheduling

What is this modification?

– Functionality where students who are identified as participating in the Early Start Program will have:

• An application created from data captured in the Global Database for ERS reporting requirements

• The ability to enroll in ESP English and Math courses through self service

• The ability to make a payment for ESP courses through self service

– Functionality that allows campuses to capture ESP scores/grades, transmit to ETS, and load into campus production databases

• Familiar process

• Ability for Analytic Studies to perform more analysis of student data – concordance reports of EPT/ELM/EAP data with ESP data, matching with data supplied in ERS reporting
