EACS Technology Newsletter September 3, 2015 1. For teachers in grades K-12: Canvas is new Learning Management System https://eacs.instructure.com/ is the EACS website. (I recommend bookmarking) Teachers and students login with the usual EACS login. All teachers and administrators have been ask to join the course: EACS Teacher Professional Development Inside this course, please click on Pages, and you will see many tutorials and step-by-step text instructions for Canvas, for Pearson texts, and for WebDAV. Please take a look... 2. For all staff: Please remember, student logins changed. Students will login with their student #, and their first name+last 4 digits of student #, with the name CAPITALIZED. This affects most all student logins except Compass Odyssey and Scholastic (SAM), which both stay the same. 3. For teachers in grades K-12: Straight from John Wolf of the IDOE: Google Forms is part of the Google Docs suite of tools which can be used to create online assessments, forms, surveys, and more. Question types include text, paragraph, multiple choice, checkboxes, etc. Google Forms is free and can be used with a personal Google account or with a school Google Apps account. Take a look at these links: Creating assessments with Google Forms, Using Google forms, and Flubaroo (Add-on script for Google Forms that can automatically grade the assessments and email results to the students.) 4. For all science teachers: Size is relative! Please take a look at this video: (2:24) Size is relative 5. For all teachers: Do you know TED? Have you seen TED talks? This is a 12+ rated app! so most students are not allowed! but teachers are... Please get the free app in the App Store: TED talks. TED talks are fascinating talks on everything from modern values to futuristic technology. Fun technology fact: Scientists have been working on a mosquito-killing laser that can kill up to 100 mosquitoes per second, even distinguishing gender based upon the speed at which the wings beat. Hopes are that it will be in stores, priced reasonably by 2020. I will be buying stock in that if it works...
