First of all, congratulations to Lucas, Brenda and Erin on all receiving their
silver awards last week! We have some more students who are very close to
receiving theirs as well!
In Week 6, 2/3 was the class of the week for speaking respectfully! This means
we are looking after the teddy this week and also each received a smencil.
In Writing we are working towards finishing our pieces of writing about
Menindee we started with Jane Carroll. Jane gave 2/3 lots of praise for the
progress they have made in writing and Miss Wright is very proud of you all!
We are focusing on the sound igh this week in Jolly Spelling and revising
Adjectives in Jolly Grammar.
In Geography we are investigating the names of places and their origins –
Aboriginal words, famous people and natural features. We will also explore
some unusual place names and make a song about places in Australia.
In Health, with the help of PossaBill, we are learning to reel in good feelings.
We will learn how to look for and find positive feelings within ourselves.
Don’t forget we go to library on Monday’s and also have sport on Friday’s so
wear your joggers.
Welcome to week 7!! Last week we wrote our very own book! That’s right, in
K/1 we are authors and illustrators! It was a ‘Who am I?’ book about farm
animals and at the end of the book there is a funny twist. We cannot wait to
read our book to the other classes this week.
In our writing lessons this week are going to be looking at how to write a
procedure by writing and following some recipes. We are going to make fairy
bread, choc chip cookies and fruit salad.
We have been trying so hard in reading groups over the past few weeks and
we are working really hard to learn all of the things we need to know to
become independent readers.
This week we are going to continue to use a range of materials in maths to
work on our addition skills. Mrs Jackson has been very impressed with the way
we have been using our counting skills to add two groups of objects together.
We cannot wait for pj day on Friday!!
Have a great week!

The students from 3-6 continue to enjoy watching mini clips of Dreamtime
stories from the series Dust Echoes. The discussion around each clip and the
inferring about the underlying message continues to grow. I am loving the
students’ responses and understanding.
In photography we are looking at ‘colour’ as this week’s theme. Watch out in
the next couple of weeks for some samples of their work.
Last week 3-6 cooked pizzas with Mrs Clenton. I have been told they all loved
their pizza creations. This Friday we are cooking Custard Creams from an old
family’s recipe. I hope the children love them as much as my family does.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles and if you are like
me, the mum’s who do both jobs. We hope you have a fantastic weekend
and are spoilt by your loved ones.
4/5/6 have been working so hard in mathematics that they have blow the
socks off of Mrs Catt! She watched the students complete their long division
sums and was so impressed, she thought the kids were in high school!
We haven't told Mrs Catt about our accomplishments in science yet, but we
know she'd be proud of us! We know who invented the microscope, how he
came to invent it and also what he found first.....Be sure to ask the kids about
this at home! This week we will be going to the science lab to use our very own
microscopes.
Also, this week, we will be printing our narratives for our first step of editing. We
can't wait to publish them.
Until next week.
