“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve
the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends
forth a tiny ripple of hope, and those ripples build a current
which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression
and resistance.”
- Robert F. Kennedy
Oral Health as a Social Justice Issue
• Everyone should have the same opportunities to live a healthy life.
• A person in poor oral health is not healthy.
• It’s our responsibility to advocate for and mobilize the many who don’t have access to oral health care and prevention.
• Nobody should suffer from a chronic disease that is completely preventable.
• Until we all have an equal opportunity to live happy and healthy lives, we will live in an unjust society.
• National policy and legislature groups • National provider associations • National membership organizations • National health alliances
• State oral health coalitions and alliances • State-based health care delivery organizations • Safety net trade associations and community health centers • State-based social service networks (Head Start, WIC, Boys and Girls Clubs)
• Community organizations in 20-30 targeted communities • Prioritize organizations with existing strong networks representing focus populations • Targeted in areas where Foundation has existing network relationships • Emphasize community organizing around shared messaging on importance of oral
health

messaging and a culture of collaboration to spread innovative practices that
supports PCAs to promote comprehensive care for the people we serve.

“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there “is” such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
