• Each of you has a post it note with a body part in Spanish.

• Stick your post it note on the board where you think it belongs.

• You may have seen some of the body parts before and some may be new to you.

• Write numbers 1-8• Listen to the recording and write the correct

letters based on the picture provided.• The example has been started for you.

• Use me duele(n) when describing what part of the body is hurting you.

• Me duele(n) works in the same way as gustar.• You must add the ‘n’ if you are talking about

more than one thing or if the body part you are referring to is plural such as ‘los ojos’.

• Also make sure that you use the definite article (el/la/los/las) when talking about body parts in Spanish.

To ask someone how long they have been doing something, you say:

¿Cuánto tiempo hace que … + verb (present tense)

e.g. ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que tienes tos? = for how long have you had a cough?¿Cuánto tiempo hace que te duele la cabeza? = for how long have you had a headache?

To answer this question and say that you’ve been doing something for a certain amount of time, you would say:

Hace + time + que + verb (present tense)

e.g. Hace dos años que estudio el español = I’ve been studying Spanish for two years

Hace tres días que me duele la cabeza= I’ve had a headache for 3 days

To ask someone how long they have been doing something you could also say:¿Desde cuándo?

Which literally means “since when?”

¿Desde cuándo te duelen los ojos? = How long have your eyes been hurting?/Since when have your eyes been hurting?

Desde ayer = since yesterday

¿Qué te duele?

¿Desde cuándo?

To learn and remember words that are completely different from the English, it is helpful if you can think of a story behind the word. For example:

La garganta – sounds like “gargle” and you use your throat to do this.

Choose one item of body part vocabulary and think of your own to share with the rest of the class.
