Phone - 09 4351160 11 CLARK ROAD KAMO(directly behind McDonalds) Open Monday – Friday Principal’s Message School Reports: At the end of this term you will receive your first written report from your child’s teacher. It will have information about the core areas of schooling – Reading, Writing and Mathematics, and it will also have information about other curriculum areas, such as, Health & Physical Education, the Arts, Inquiry Learning which includes Science, Social Sciences and Technology. Included in this report will be ideas for how you can help at home, which we feel should be a useful addition to the information on academic progress. There is also a section on Key Competencies and School Values, which we hope you will find useful. One aspect you will need to keep in mind when reading this initial report is that it is a progress report, and not a summary of an entire years programme. As you will be aware we report to you on student achievement in relation to the New Zealand Curriculum Standards (National Standards). Your child’s report will make reference to these standards in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, stating whether or not your child is above standard, meeting the standard, working towards the standard or is ‘of concern’. When writing a school report, how do teachers make a decision about whether or not a child is meeting ‘the standard’? When writing your child’s school report, teachers are expected to make an ‘Overall Teacher Judgement’. What is an Overall Teacher Judgement? An Overall Teacher Judgement involves drawing on and applying the evidence gathered up to a particular point in time, in order to make an overall judgement about a student’s progress and achievement.J Why use Overall Teacher Judgement? No single source of information can accurately summarise a student’s achievement or progress. A range of approaches is necessary in order to compile a comprehensive picture of the areas of progress, areas requiring attention, and what a student’s unique progress looks like. Using a range of approaches also allows the student to participate throughout the assessment process, building their assessment capability. Because of this, to assess a student in relation to National Standards, teachers need to bring together a range of evidence in order to form an Overall Teacher Judgement (OTJ). Attendance rate reporting. The attendance percentage rate is a calculation on time at school so far this year. We report on whether a student has an unsatisfactory or satisfactory attendance history. Unsatisfactory is a total less than 90% at school and a satisfactory rate is 90% or higher at school. We understand that some students are close to the satisfactory rate and also that some students have had time off for valid medical reasons. We know how important each day at school is for students learning and have set these percentage rates to outline this. Picking Students Up This is just a friendly reminder that students should be picked up or have arrangements made to be picked up as soon as possible at 3:00pm. We have been noticing an increase in students who are hanging around the playgrounds waiting to be picked up. We have a low priced After School Care service that is available to all parents if you cannot get to school in sufficient time. We are not staffed to chase up children who are waiting or unsure of where their parents are and we are also not responsible for children who may injure themselves while waiting for parents to arrive. Please ensure that arrangements are made for an early pick up and that children are aware of what these arrangements are. With wet weather now upon us it is more important than ever that students are picked up or have arrangements made for after school. Principal’s Message

School Reports: At the end of this term you will receive your first written report from your child’s teacher.

One

aspect you will need to keep in mind when reading this initial report is that it is a progress report, and not a summary of an entire years programme.

As you will be aware we report to you on student achievement in relation to the New Zealand Curriculum Standards (National Standards). Your child’s report will make reference to these standards in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, stating

whether or not your child is above standard, meeting the standard, working towards the standard or is ‘of concern’.

When writing a school report, how do teachers make a decision about whether or not a child is meeting ‘the standard’?

When writing your child’s school report, teachers are expected to make an ‘Overall Teacher Judgement’.

What is an Overall Teacher Judgement? An Overall Teacher Judgement involves drawing on and applying the evidence gathered up to a particular point in time, in order to make an overall judgement about a student’s progress and achievement.J

Why use Overall Teacher Judgement? No single source of information can accurately summarise a student’s achievement or progress. A range of approaches is necessary in order to compile a comprehensive picture of the areas of progress, areas

requiring attention, and what a student’s unique progress looks like. Using a range of approaches also allows the student to participate throughout the assessment process, building their assessment capability. Because of this, to assess a student in relation

to National Standards, teachers need to bring together a range of evidence in order to form an Overall Teacher Judgement (OTJ).

Attendance rate reporting. The attendance percentage rate is a calculation on time at school so far this year. We report on whether a student has an unsatisfactory or satisfactory attendance history. Unsatisfactory is a total less than 90% at school and a

satisfactory rate is 90% or higher at school. We understand that some students are close to the satisfactory rate and also that some students have had time off for valid medical reasons. We know how important each day at school is for students learning

and have set these percentage rates to outline this.

Picking Students Up This is just a friendly reminder that students should be picked up or have arrangements made to be picked up as soon as possible at 3:00pm. We have been noticing an increase in students who are hanging around the playgrounds waiting to be picked up. We

have a low priced After School Care service that is available to all parents if you cannot get to school in sufficient time. We are not staffed to chase up children who are waiting or unsure of where their parents are and we are also not responsible for

children who may injure themselves while waiting for parents to arrive. Please ensure that arrangements are made for an early pick up and that children are aware of what these arrangements are. With wet weather now upon us it is more important than
