    Vietnamese Family Names

In the United States, the Vietnamese family name is used as the last name.

However, in Vietnamese, the family name is the first in order of the name series(ie, family name - middle name - personal name). Vietnamese names generally consist ofthree parts: family name, a middle name, anda given name, used in that order.

A family name orlast name is a type of surname and part of a person's name indicating thefamily to which

the person belongs. Because the family name is normally given last in English-speakingsocieties, the termlast name is commonly used forfamily name.

Family names are most often used to refer to a stranger or in a formal setting, and are oftenused with a title orhonorific such as Mr., Mrs.,Ms., Miss, Dr., and so on. Generally the given

name, Christian name, first name, forename, or personal name is the one used by friends, family, and other intimates to address an individual. It may also be used by someone who isin some way senior to the person being addressed.
