* JOB INSTRUCTIONS:

10 Inspect electrical equipment prior to undertaking partial discharge. Confirm that all equipment is in full working order, and confirm integrity of all installed components, cabling, etc. Pay particular attention to electrical terminations, fixings, etc.

20 Hook up Partial Discharge equipment based on previous benchmark PD survey. Electrical equipment should be energised for full loading to achieve a high load condition.

30 Record PD readings for analysis and use comparison techniques on measured equipment.

40 Return all equipment to normal operating state and verify operation.

Note: The partial discharge technique utilises a specialist contractor in a two-stage approach. This initially requires the setting up of monitoring equipment to benchmark the partial discharge signature of the asset HV distribution network. The monitoring equipment will record the partial discharge activity created by the normal operation of the HV plant over several days by connection to the equipment via capacitive couplers. Subsequent surveys will not be as onerous on the asset with regard to expenditure in time. These surveys will utilise the original benchmark details of the equipment and compare current readings for deterioration. Attention will focus on HV equipment identified within the initial survey as items of interest and recommendations will be provided for equipment deemed to be at risk.
