However, a blissful relationship is often difficult to achieve and when things go wrong, can be the cause of much suffering. Traleg Rinpoche’s perspective on Mindfulness Living and its role for us as meditators. MEDITATION AS A HEALING ART Virginia Golding One day workshop Sunday 5 March 10.30am – 4pm In this one day workshop, Virginia will explore the practice of using meditation for creating a balanced and healthy mind, which according to the Buddhist teachings, is key to obtaining genuine happiness. The Four Immeasurables or Brahmaviharas of equanimity, loving kindness, compassion and joy will also be explored as practices which can be used as antidotes to states of mind such as anxiety and depression. THE ESSENCE OF BUDDHISM Jakob Leschly Date to be announced Jakob Leschly has been appointed by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche as his resident teacher in Australia. He began his studies of Buddhism in 1974 and has studied with numerous great teachers, particularly Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Jakob completed a three year retreat in 1984 and has since worked as a translator and interpreter as well as a philosophy and meditation instructor, also completing a BA in Tibetan Studies. He now lives with his family in New South Wales and teaches in Australia and New Zealand. TRALEG KYABGON RINPOCHE DVD RETREAT 14 – 17 April (Easter) On this retreat we will watch DVD’s of Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche’s teachings. The retreat is suitable for all levels of students and is a wonderful opportunity to deepen one’s practice in the tranquil seing at Maitripa Centre, Healesville. The program will include yoga and pranayama sessions, shamatha and walking meditation and traditional ritual puja (chanting & singing) practices of Green Tara and Chenrezig. COMPASSION IN THE DIGITAL AGE Dungse Jampal Norbu 5–7 May Technology has drawn us closer together, but it has also pulled us farther apart. It is easy to connect with friends thousands of miles away, while on the other hand remain indifferent to others, who may only appear as blips on a screen. To have compassion in the digital age means to return to the fundamental connections we all share. Dungse Jampal Namgyel, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche's son and Dharma Heir, sees Buddhism as a practical set of skills that contribute greatly to our ability to live a full and compassionate life. His humor, insight, and experience as a modern Western person allow him to pinpoint the relevance of the Buddhist teachings to the range of life's experiences.
