INTRODUCTION e-ScoRpion is our new jet trainer for 90 mm EDF or for small turbine (wren 44). It is fully composite, delivered assembled and painted. It is just issue from the Scorpion and Super Scorpion and keep the same fighter design with twin fins. It keeps the same flight qualities than his big brothers. It is designed for jet beginner with following objective : - Very easy to fly. - Short take off and landing due to big airfoil thickness (13%), large flaps and low wing loading - Very fast assembly. - Easy access to engine, controller and battery for EDF, fuel tank and ECU for turbine, with

removable bottom wing. - Easy radio installation with big canopy and servo cover supplied. It is designed for a 3 to 4 kg thrust EDF. It cana lso be fitted with a 4 to 6 kg thrust turbine.

The E-ScoRpion is fully molded in composite material. The model comes to you finished, fully molded in composite material and painted in mold. All bulkheads are glued. All control surfaces are hinged. No gluing are required. This model has plug in wings and fins for an easier transport. All necessary hardware are included in the parcel Assembly require only few hours to fit engine and radio.

The E-ScoRpion can be fitted with dorsal air brake for easier approach and landing.

Installation of the radio equipment Components need: Elevator : 2 mini servo 3 kg torque (ex Futaba S3650). Ailerons : 2 mini servo 3 kg torque (ex Futaba S3150). Steering nose wheel : 1 mini servo 3 kg torque (ex Futaba S3150). Flaps: no flaps . Rudders : no rudder required, but you can add them with 2 micro servo 1 kg torque.

Assembly InstructionsAssembly InstructionsAssembly InstructionsAssembly Instructions Canopy hatch : Make a 6 mm hole in front of the fuselage hatch for the wood pin. Glue the wood pin with CA in the hatch. Drill the corresponding hole in the front fuselage. Cut a slot and make a 3 mm hole in the back of the canopy for the hatch latch. Glue the hatch latch with CA. Take care to not glue the metallic part. Fit the hatch on the fuselage and draw the corresponding hole. Drill the 3 mm hole in the fuselage.

Fitting the dorsal air brake : The E-ScoRpion can be fitted with dorsal air brake for easier approach and landing. It will increase drag of the plane. It will require on more mini servo 3 kg torque (ex Futaba S3150) for the EDF version or one air cylinder + electrovalve for the turbine version. The dorsal airbrake also give access to the controller (for EDF version) or to the turbine accessories (turbine version). Cut the dorsal air brake in the fuselage on the engraved panel lines. Fit Robart hinges in the 2 aluminium tube. Glue the 2 aluminium tube with CA on the airbrake. Take care that the hinge point is at the air brake limit (see pic). Glue the 2 Robart hinges in the tube with epoxy. Bend the hinges at 90° to be sure they are parallel. Glue the fiber control horn in the center of the airbrake as the photo. Take care that the airbrake is perfectly centered in the hatch, if necessary, hold it with tape. Glue the 2 hinges on the fuselage with CA. Take care to not glue the axis (put oil on it). Secure the hinges with epoxy. For EDF : Put the airbrake servo just behind of the canopy on a plywood plate Connect the airbrake with M2 link and threaded rod. Glue 2 pieces of fiber or plywood at the end of the air air brake hatch to have a air brake stop.

For turbine : Screw the M2 link to the threated rod. Glue the threated rod in the air cylinder rod. Connect the M2 link to the plywood horn. Fit a M3 threaded rod in the cylinder end. Adjust the position of the threaded rod so that the air brake is fully closed when air cylinder is closed and open with cylinder open. Glue the threaded rod to the fuselage with epoxy. Glue 2 pieces of fiber or plywood at the end of the air brake hatch to have a air brake stop.

Stabs : Servos installation. Important : the servo MUST be a high quality servo, 3 kg torque, with metallic gears. Screw the 2 servos on the plywood mount. The servo lead must be fixed to the fuselage and protected from engine for turbine version.

Stabs installation : Slide the 1 mm plastic washer on the carbon tube so the stab don’t touch the fuselage. Slide the stab in the fuselage. Check again the clearance of the stab and the fuselage. The stab must not touch the fuselage when it rotate.

Slide the aluminium control arm on the carbon tube. Put the stab horizontal. Put the control arm vertical and screw the locking screw.

Linkages : Screw the ball link on a M3 threaded rod. Screw the steel link on a M3 threaded rod. Glue with epoxy the 2 treaded rod in the carbon tube and adjust the correct length.

Screw the ball link on the control horn with M3 screw. Secure the screw with M3 blind nut. Connect the servo to the control horn with the carbon linkage. Glue them with thread lock.

Landing gear : Attention : E scorpion is designed to be used with straight legs. If you are using other legs, you will have to modify the door position. Fit the main gear on the plywood mount a drill four 2 mm hole. Screw each gear with four 3x20 mm parker screws.

Fit the front gear on the plywood mount a drill four 2 mm hole. Fit the gear from the top of the fuselage. Screw front gear gear with four 3x20 mm parker screws. Screw the steering servo on the plywood frame upside down. Connect the servo to the steering arm with M2 steel link, threaded rod and M2 ball link.

Check that the nose gear retract and extend without problem with the steering arm. Connect all gear tubing as described in the gear manual. The air tank will be fitted on the front plywood support.

Aileron servos : If necessary increase the hole for the servo location in the wings with a PermaGrit rotating tool for the aileron. Screw the servo in the servo cover (we recommand you to glue it with silicon glue for more security). Put in position, the servo cover on the wings. Drill 4 x 1 mm hole in the wings for the screws. Cut a slot in the control surface for the fiber control horn. Glue with fast epoxy the control horn. Connect two 2 mm link with M2 threaded rod. Screw the servo cover with the 4 parker screws. Connect the servo with the control horn. Apply thread lock.

Drill a 15 mm hole in the middle of the wing the the air tube and electric wiring. Sold electric wire for the aileron servos.

Central wing pin : Check that the central wing pins is correctly glued to the wing. Otherwise, glue it with epoxy. Wing screws : The wings are hole to the fuselage with 2 M4 screws. Insert M4 blind nuts to the plywood fuselage frame. Screw 2 pieces of M4 threaded rod in the blind nut to engraved their corresponding position on the wing. Fit the wings on the fuselage and engraved threaded rod position. Drill 2 x 4 mm hole in the wing on the corresponding location. Secure wings with the M 4 screws. Secure the fins : Fit the fins on the fuselage. Make a 1.5 mm hole at 15 mm from the fin root through the fuselage and carbon tube to secure the fins. Insert 2.2 mm parker screw through the tube and fuselage to secure the fins.

EDF Installation : Fit the brakets on the fan. Insert fan in the fuselage and check that the shroud is in contact with inlet ducting. If necessary, sand the central inlet joining part to have enough clearance for the fan spinner. Screw the fan of the plywood with 4 parker screws 3 x 20 mm. Exhaust ducting : Make a first assembly out of the airframe to check all fitting. Make all necessary hole for electric wiring in the ducting. Make slot as small as possible. The exhaust ducting will be fitted in fuselage from the rear. The ducting is hold to the fan with tape. Tape will solve ducting air leak. The end of the ducting will be hold by the exhaust cone. ESC controller installation : The ESC will be fitted from the airbrake, as close as possible to the EDF. Hold the ESC to the plywood frame with T rap. If necessary, make few holes to the airbrake for ESC cooling. Fiber exhaust cone : You can screw the fiber exhaust cone to the fuselage or you can glue it with silicon glue. The afterburner led system will be glued inside the fiber cone.

Fuel tank (turbine version) : Connect the 1.1 kevlar fuel tank to the clunk as the photo. Check that there is no leak before to fit it in fuselage. Cut the inlet ducting as the photo to fit the fuel tank. Hold the fuel tank with rubber bands or silicon glue. Drill a 3 mm hole in the bottom of the fuselage for the fuel vent. The fuel tank is connected to a UAT catch tank to be sure that there is no bubble in the fuel line. The tubing from the main tank to the catch tank and to the catch tank to the fuel pump must be gasoline tubing (no silicone tubing). Also for the air vent tube. The catch tank is glue with T rap one side of the fuselage.

Filling the fuel tanks : Connect your pump and fill the system in direction of the tank. It will first fill the catch tank and after the main tank. The main tank will be full when fuel come from the air vent tube. When tanks are full, close the filling tubing. Do not close the air vent tube after. The system is ready for starting.

Tailpipe exhaust (turbine version) : Fit in the fuselage the tailpipe from the rear. Tailpipe will be screw on the rear engine frame with 2 x 3 mm diameter parker screw at 120°. The end of the pipe will be hold by the fiber exhaust cone on the double walled steel sheet or will be hold on 3 plywood pads in the middle of the exhaust fiber cone. Turbine and ECU installation : Adjust the position of the engine / beginning of the exhaust tube. The engine must be screw with 4 times 3x20 mm parker screws to the rear position. Secure all electric wire and fuel tubing in front of the engine in the fuselage. Fit the ECU in one side of the plane. Fit the fuel pump and valves just rear to the ECU and hold them with T rap.

Clear canopy : If you choose to fit the clear canopy, follow the next steps : Cut the fiber canopy as the pics. Keep enough fiber border to glue the front pin and hatch latch (about 10 mm left and right and 15 mm front and 20 mm rear). Put the clear canopy on the fiber parts and cut is 5 mm bigger than the fiber canopy parts.

Paint all internal parts in black or grey. Gluing the clear canopy : Put the clear canopy inside the canopy frame. Hold it with paper tape. Apply some ZAP canopy inside the frame between the clear canopy and the fiber parts. Let in dry 24 hours.

Radio installation : Fit the receiver in the nose section. Don’t put the received and its aerial antennae too close to the EDF controller or to the ECU. Retract valve and brake valve can be fitted on the front plywood frame as the pics. On EDF version, put the lipo batteries on the correct located position in the plywood plate. Hold them with T rap. If necessary, adjust batteries position to have to correct CG position. On turbine version, put the receiver and engine batteries in the nose. Hold them with T rap. Adjust batteries position to have to correct CG position. Recommended surface throws

Center of gravity : You have to adjust the correct CG with batteries position.

Note : balance the model with the gear down and the tanks empty (turbine version). The center of gravity (CG) must be located at 190 mm rear of the wing leading edge (wing root). You must check it before the first flight, to do this with the aircraft in flight condition but without fuel lift the aircraft in this point, the aircraft must adopt a slightly nose down attitude. If it is horizontal or the tail drops move the battery forward or add weight in the nose. In other hand if the nose drops considerably add weight in the tail. Total weight : The total weight of the E-Scorpion is 4 kg tanks empty.

Important note : Pay very careful attention to structural integrity. This jet can reach speeds of over 300 KPH - 200 MPH. It is your responsibility to operate it safely. Specifications may change without notice.
