FRIDAY, JULY 16, 2010columbia River Gorge tour2:15 pm – 6:15 pmdiscover one of the world’s most magnificent landscapes, the columbia river gorge. the tour’s final destination is the fourth highest waterfall in the United states, the multnomah falls, and includes a stop at the Bonneville dam. at the falls, attendees can follow the trail to the top of the falls (2.2 miles roundtrip with a 700’ elevation gain) or take a shorter walk up the paved trail to the simon Benson Bridge and spend the extra time at the gift shop, interpretive center, or just stand at the base of the falls and revel in their splendor. our tour of this national scenic area ends as we travel back to portland via bus along the shore of the mighty columbia river.

Winetasting Adventure2:30 pm – 5:30 pmJourney by motorcoach to the washington county country-side for winetasting at two of the regions leading wineries. like the great wine regions of france and germany, oregon’s wine country is blessed with a long, moderate growing season, which has proven ideal for such grapes as pinot noir, chardon-nay and white rieslings. sample wines at cooper mountain Vineyards and ponzi Vineyards.

Garden Lovers tour2:45 pm – 6:15 pmtravel high above the city to the pittock mansion, once the home of pioneers Henry and georgiana pittock whose empire included real estate, banking, railroads, steamboats, sheep ranching, silver mining and paper. a museum docent will in-troduce you to the mansion before you set out to explore the grounds on your own. our tour continues, as we make our way to washington park and the famed Japanese garden, which is influenced by shinto, Buddhist and taoist philosophies empha-sizing plants, stones and water. it is considered one of the most authentic outside of Japan. then the tour will stop at the inter-national rose test gardens and visitors will be able to explore the 4.5 acre garden featuring 10,000 roses. the garden, which was established in 1917, is the oldest public rose test garden in the United states.
