Singh and Yusuf Pathanin successive overs costI n d i a t h e s e c o n dTwenty20 match againstNew Zealand, accordingto captain Mahendra
Singh Dhoni who said abetter display by thepacers could have tiltedthe game in his team'sfavour.
Dhoni felt theteam got off to a decentstart and as long as heand Yuvrai Singh were inthe middle, there wasnothing to panic about. But losing both Yuvrajand Yusuf in a span offour balls proved costly inthe end, he rued.
"Yusuf got outoff inside edge, that wascrucial because we
banked on those kind ofbatsmen. When me andYuvi were batting, wewanted to play the middleovers. We had a decentstart and we had bighitters down the order,"Dhoni pointed out.
" T h o s e 2 - 3wickets we lostin the middlewas very crucialfor us," he said.Dhoni also felt aslightly bettershow by the newb a l l b o w l e r scould have tiltedthe close gamein India's favour."I think if we hadbowled a littlebetter with thenew ball and notgiven so many
runs upfront, may bethings could have beendifferent. The match wentto the last ball and you
don't expect anythingbetter," said the Indiancaptain.
Dhoni, however, was happy with the wayhis spinners, especiallyRavindra Jadeja, tried todefend a sub-150 score.
"I'm still happywith the way the spinners,e s p e c i a l l y J a d e j a ,bowled. There was a chataround in the camp toplay one more seamer
but Jadeja did a fantasticjob. He scored a few runsand bowled well too,"Dhoni said.
N e w Z e a l a n dskipper Daniel Vettori washappy with the bowlerswho, for the second matchon the trot, restrictedIndia's star-studded line-upto a modest total.
"I'm pleased withthe bowling effort. Guys like(Jesse) Ryder stepped upreally well. We had anopportunity to attack theirfifth bowler but it didn'twork," Vettori said.
Lavishing praiseon Brendon McCullum, who picked his secondsuccessive Man-of-the-Match award for hisunbeaten match-winning69, Vettori said, "It wasgreat batting by him. Thetwo fours he hit in the lastover brought us back in thematch and he then finished
it off." McCullum, on hispart, said his 53-run standwith Ryder made the jobeasy.
"I'm really happyand I think I played betterthan the last match. Wehad a really quick start andit was a matter of keepingpace with things," he said.

" W e a r esurprised. Both teamswere excited with thepossibility of playing withtwo of the Indian players,Sachin and Dinesh. Itwould have been greatfor our game.
"Some of thebowlers were young(from the U-19 level) andlook ing forward tobowling to one of thegreatest players (Sachin)who have played the
game. "We are reallydisappointed. The fanswould have liked to seethose two players inaction in this country,"said Mills. Mills said heheard about the Indianboard's decision this
morning."I heard about it
th is morning at 8.Obviously during theweek we had made theoffer to the managementand were happy toinc lude two Ind ianplayers in the side to givethem a hit in the middle. The team managementseemed really keen withthe idea and yesterdaythey confirmed twoplayers would play andthat they were allowed todo that.
"Then, we wokeup this morning withnews that the BCCI didnot want the two Indiansto play in the matchb e c a u s e H a m i s hMarshall was playing. Asy o u w o u l d k n o w ,Marshall was an ICLplayer. However, hiscontract finished with theICL last year so we didnot think there would beany problem," said Mills.M i l l s sa id he wasdisappointed with theBCCI's decision.
"To be honest
w e a r e r e a l l ydisappointed with theposition of the BCCI. I\understand the situationwith the ICL, but givenHamish is no longer aplayer with ICL, cricket'sthe loser on this day.
"The fans as
well as the players werelooking forward to thisgame and obviouslyeveryone misses out. It just seems a bit silly tome," Mills said.
"When I learnta b o u t t h e B C C I ' sdecision from JustinVaughan, the CEO ofNew Zealand Cricket, Iwent back and tried tof ind a so lu t ion byexplaining that Hamish isno longer an ICL playerand we want him to play(in the match).
"I was hopingfor a change in theirp o s i t i o n . B u t Iunderstand I would haveto speak to the rightpeople in Mumbai and sowe had to run with theirdecision last night," headded.
Mills said hehad spoken to GaryKirsten and knew that theIndian duo were reallykeen to play the game.
"I didn't speakto Sachin but spoke toGary Kirsten three or fourtimes during the day. I
know both players, including Sachin werevery keen to p laybecause they haven'thad a hit so far.
" T h e y w e r elook ing forward toplaying in what was acompetitive game of
cricket against some prettygood bowlers and get a hitin the middle," he said.
Mil ls said theBCCI and the ICL shouldresolve the issues as themost exciting players weremissing out on playinginternational cricket.
"I think we can'tcontinue to have some ofthe best players excludedfrom international cricket. Iunderstand the position ofthe BCCI. Down here wehave got Shane Bond, LouVincent and Andre Adams. They can't play because oftheir allegiance to ICL.These are good playersand it's sad that they arenot playing internationalcricket.
"The BCCI andthe ICC should come to aresolution to bring ICL tothe fold and that would befan tas t i c f o r c r i c ke tworldwide. I just hope theyare mindful of the impact onc o u n t r i e s l i k e N e wZealand. I am sure there isa solution," said Mills.
