    4CornersEvents rocked RAKBANKAnnual Staff Party March this year!

    Dubai: On the lush green golf course at Emirates Golf Club, 4 Corners Events made it happen what is known as one of

    the most renown and prestigious event of the year 2011, already! On the evening of March 17, 2011, the talk of thetown was only the RAKBANK Annual Staff Party hosting around 4000 guests from RAKBANK and its business circle. 4

    Corners Events was the sole organizer for this rocking staff party of 4000 people from 35 different nationalities. From

    initial planning to the final execution, 4 Corners Events arranged for the event management, dances programs, singing

    sensations and mouth-watering meal buffet that was prepared keeping in mind the different national food items in

    various nations of different continents. A special dance floor was prepared to let the guests tap their feet along with

    the amazing songs being played at the event. The event turned out much more than merely a success and is still talked

    much about by the folks!

    ubai: Austrian Airlines, which is celebrating the 15th anniversary of flying to Dubai this year, considers Dubai as an

    mportant destination in its Middle East strategy and plans to offer more services in days to come, its top official said onuesday. The Vienna-based airline, having a fleet of 82 aircraft, is planning to enhance the product portfolios, increase

    s focus on the corporate sector and improve cooperation with its partner, the Lufthansa Group, to provide better

    ervice to the travellers in the region. Austrian enjoyed a 45 per cent increase in passengers on its Dubai-Vienna route

    n 2010 over 2009, indicating a strong recovery from the international financial crisis. On March 27, 1996 the inaugural

    ight of Austrian from Vienna to Dubai was operated with a Boeing 737. Due to rising demand, the flight schedule has

    ncreased from one flight a week to one flight a day using Boeing 767 with 225 or 230 seats. Regarding introduction of

    ights to Abu Dhabi, the officials said that the airline was always evaluating new destinations.

    Ministry to focus on technology in UAE schools

    Dubai: The UAE education ministry is committed to introducing technology in schools,

    the education minister said on Wednesday, announcing the launch of the fourth edition

    of the Global Education Forum (GEF) and the Gulf Educational Supplies & Solution (GESS)

    show.

    The event, organized by the education ministry in association with Fairs & Exhibition(F&E), will take place from May 3-5.

    The selection of "Education in a knowledge society," as a key theme for this year's event

    is testament to the importance of embracing new channels and the dialogue between

    education experts and decision makers on the latest technologies to be used in

    educational institutions.

    UAE joins war against polio virus

    Dubai: The UAE has joined hands with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation incampaign to save children's lives by combating polio in Afghanistan and PakistaDr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, said yesterday.

    The two Asian nations still report a huge number of polio cases and face severaother health challenges, Dr Hassan, who earlier opened a meeting of the WHORegional Commission meeting for Polio Eradication, said.

    He said the partnership between General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al NahyCrown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE ArmedForces, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been particularly notabfor providing basic vaccinations that are critical to ending the disease's threat.

    Gates writes in his annual letter that: "Most people who live in rich countriesassume the disease is long gone and that it doesn't kill or paralyze childrenanymore."

    Mass mobilizations to administer the polio vaccine had helped eliminate polio the US and most developed nations decades ago, Gates notes. The campaign indeveloping nations, however, still faces a funding shortfall of over Dh2.5 billiohe pointed out.

    Solar busRevealed at the event was a solar-powered bus, which

    can go up to 40km/h. The 14-seater model of theChinese-made Kudo bus, priced at $30,000 (Dh110,100), covers 100km on a single charge.

    AlcolockCanadian company ACS has launched an "alcohol lock"that measures the breath alcohol concentration of adriver and prevents the vehicle from starting if thelevel is over a pre-set limit.

    Dubai: Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, reviewed a

    new system that can alert motorists when visibility is curtailed especially by

    fog.

    The solar-powered system was created by Emirati engineer Saeed Khalaf Al

    Hammadi. It warns drivers to leave a safe distance between vehicles and, in

    case of an accident ahead, helps avert pile-ups.

    Lt Gen Dahi suggested improvements to make the system easier and cheaperto install.
