Hot School News
Mothering Sunday, commonly known as Mother's Day,
is a celebration of motherhood. It is celebrated on various
days in many parts of the world.
Many people make an extra special effort to visit
their mother to lavish her with cards and gifts to her.
Another way to spoil your mum on Mother's day is to treat her to brunch,
lunch or high tea. Common Mother's Day gifts are cakes, flowers, or
chocolates. Do your best and make your Mother’s Day really special.

Short & Cute Poetry For Mother's Day
M - O - T - H - E - R by Howard Johnson
"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
"MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me

3 2015 May Monthly Reader
It was a hot summer. Lucy and David wanted to be cool. They sat in
front of a fan and even went to the shade of a tree. Nothing could
stop them from sweating. They sprinkled the water and ran around
at backyard. Lucy lay in the sun to dry off and guess what happened?
Read the story and find out the answer.
안녕하세요!
Annyeong haseyo, Korea written by Ms. Ciou
Korea is located on the Korean Peninsula in
North-East Asia. In the north is North Korea and in
the south is South Korea. When people say Korea,
usually, they mean South Korea. The capital city of
South Korea is Seoul. The money they use in Korea is
called won. 100 NT dollars is about 3200 wons. The
language they speak is Korean.
You may find there are so many similarities between Chinese culture
and Korean culture. For example, people in Korea also use chopsticks, just
like us. Their temples and palaces look like Chinese temples and palaces.
This is because ancient China has a great influence on Korean history and
culture. Therefore, people in Korean also use the Lunar Calendar and they
celebrate the special holidays on the calendar as well, such as Lunar New
Year (also known as Chinese New Year), the Moon Festival and the Dragon
Boat Festival.
Due to the influence of the western culture, Korean people also
celebrate Christmas and Valentine’s Day. As we know, February 14th is Valentine’s Day. It’s the day for us to give chocolates, flowers or cards to the people we love. In Asia, March 14th is White Day. It is the day for people who had received the gifts on Valentine’s to return the favor by giving back gifts. However, in Korea, they have one more holiday related to Valentine’s Day. It is Black Day and is on April 14th. It is the day for singles. Singles are the people who are not married and don’t have any boyfriends or girlfriends. On this day, the singles will wear black and eat black noodles, like jajangmeyon.

Korean food is very special and delicious. I love
Korean food. It is “mah-sit-sso-yo!” Kimchi is the
most important food in Korea. Korean people cannot
live without kimchi. Almost every family in Korea
knows how to make kimchi. There are many different
kinds of kimchi. Basically, it is made of cabbage,
radish and other vegetables. Ddeokbokki is the
most popular Korean snack. It is rice cake mixed
with fish cake and hot sauce. I especially love the
one with cheese and ramen. It is very tasty.
Do you remember the handsome alien oppa, Do, Min-Joon ? Have you
ever seen Running Man? When we talk about Korea, we should not forget
Korean dramas, TV shows and K-pop music. There are so many singers or
bands from Korea, such as Super Junior, Girls Generation, Big Bang, Psy,
EXO, Infinite, 2NE1, A-Pink and many more. Which one is your favorite?
Because of these dramas and singers, more and more people go to visit
Korea every year.

Mother’s Day most commonly falls on the second Sunday in May and
traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other
gifts.
Mother's Day is celebrated in many countries. It is a special day
when you give cards and presents to your mother to show your love for
her!
Mother’s Day: Founding By Anna Jarvis
The official Mother’s Day holiday arose in
the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis,
daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her
mother’s death in 1905, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of
honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
Carnations have come to represent Mother's Day
since Anna Jarvis delivered 500 of them at the first
celebration in 1908. The founder, Anna Jarvis, chose the
carnation because it was her mother’s favorite flower.
Florists invented the idea of wearing a red carnation if your mother
was living, or a white one if she was
dead.

Mother’s Day around the world
Mother’s Day are celebrated throughout the world. Traditions are
different depending on the country. In Thailand, for example, Mother’s
Day is always celebrated in August on the birthday of the current queen,
Sirikit.
Another alternate observance of Mother’s Day can be found in
Ethiopia, where families gather each fall to sing songs and eat a large meal,
as a celebration honoring motherhood.
In the United States, Mother’s Day continues to be celebrated by
presenting mothers and other women with gifts and flowers, and it has
become one of the biggest holidays for consumer spending. Families might
also celebrate by giving mothers a day off from activities like cooking or
other household chores.
How about you? How did you celebrate Mother’s Day with your
beloved mother?
