Paradip Port Ushers inNew Year 2018
Paradip Port Surges AheadParadip Port Trust, in the current financial year up to 31st
December, 2017 handled 74.39 Million Metric Tonnes as
compared to 64.92 Million Metric Tonnes of Cargo handled
during the corresponding period of the previous year. This is an
increase of 14.60 % over the traffic handled during the
corresponding period of previous year.
In the current financial year up to December, 2017, Coking Coal
traffic has exhibited a growth of 19.96%. Similarly, Iron Ore traffic
has increased by 36.70%, POL Traffic has increased by 31.49%,
Container Cargo traffic grew by 129.59% and Other Cargo Traffic
has increased by 2.82%, compared to the same period of previous
year. Paradip Port has retained the second highest position in terms
of Cargo handled amongst all the major ports till the end of
December 2017.
The Port also handled 178 vessels in December, 2017 as
compared to 136 vessels in December, 2016.
Paradip Port Trust handled 38.63 Million Metric Tonnes rail borne
traffic up to the end of December, 2017 as compared to 37.78
Million Metric Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of
the previous year.
The average Berth-day output up to the month improved by 4.81%
over the corresponding period of previous year. The Port achieved
an output per ship berth day of 23,962 MT/Day up to December,
2017 as compared to 22,862 MT/Day.
Principal commodity-wise traffic handled during April, 2017 -
December, 2017 ?
The number of vessels handled by the Port accordingly has
recorded a growth of 15.17% in the above period as the Port
handled 1344 number of ships in the FY-2017-18 (up to
December,2017) as against 1167 number of ships handled during
the corresponding period of previous year (2016-17).
The Port has already taken a slew of measures which has ensured
improvement in productivity of ship day from 22,862 MT in 2016-
17 to 23,962 MT for ship day in 2017-18 (up to December, 2017)
witnessing a growth of 4.81 % and average Turn-Round-Time
(TRT) has improved from 5.24 days in 2016-17 to 3.51 days (from
Readiness of Vessel) in 2017-18. Upto December, 2017 the berth
occupancy remaining the same at 72% traffic has increased by
14.60% in the 3rd quarter.
World AIDS Day observance by PPTParadip Port Hospital and Paradip Sakshyrata Samiti (PSS) joined
hands with local NGOs IRDMS and CIST to observe World AIDS
Day on 01.12.2017 with the theme -" My Health, My Right" to
highlight the subject 'Right to health.' A road rally and an awareness
programme were organised on the occasion. Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Dy.
Chairman, PPT and Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies
Club flagged off the road rally from the PPT Hospital, which
comprised of denizens of Paradip, local school children, volunteers
of PSS and this culminated at Administrative Building of PPT.
A meeting was held within the premises of Administrative Building.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, ShriRinkesh Roy, Chairman,
PPT stressed on awareness about AIDS and Personal Hygiene
among the adolescent children. He also called for working towards
eradication of Hepatitis B, another disease spreading through virus
infected blood or body secretions. Guest of Honour Shri N.
Vaiyapuri, Dy. Chairman, PPT called for awareness building so as
to achieve the target of an AIDS free World by 2030. Dr. R.K.
Mallick, Sr. Dy. CMO, PPT Hospital explained the causes,
symptoms and preventive measures to control the HIV. Shri U R
Mohan Raju, Secretary, PPT highlighted about the awareness
activities PSS is conducting round the year in the locality.
Er. Shusil Chandra Nahak, Dy. Chairman, PSS gave the welcome
speech and Shri Pravat Kumar Dash, Manager (Legal) offered the
vote of thanks. Shri Ashok Mohapatra from PSS co-ordinated the
event. Prizes were awarded to the winners of Debate competitions
held among the members of the local SHGs and school children on
the occasion by Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies
Club. Local Cultural organisation CANMASS staged a Street Play -
"Ashcharya Chowki" to make the public aware about the menace of
AIDS. The Street Play was also staged at different places in the
locality. Free HIV tests for the Truck drivers & Helpers were
undertaken by PPT Hospital at Gate No.-3 of the Port.
Principal commodity-wise traffic handled during April, 2017 – December, 2017
International Day of Persons With Disabilities observed by PPTParadip Port Trust organised an event at the local Jagruti School on
the occasion of International Day of Persons With Disabilities on
03.12.2017. 28 differently abled students are studying in the
school which is getting financial assistance from time to time from
the Paradip Port. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest Shri Rinkesh
Roy, Chairman, PPT saluted the spirit of determination of the
school children and mentioned that PPT will take necessary steps
within its ambit to make it a model school. Guest of Honor Smt.
Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies Club extended
financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/- to the organisation. She
awarded prizes to the winners of different competitions held
among the school children. Shri Roy, Chairman, PPT gave away
mementos / presentations to the PWD employees of the Port. Shri
N. Vaiyapuri, Dy. Chairman, called for Making a difference for
children who are differently abled and special. Shri U R Mohan
Raju, Secretary, PPT highlighted how the Port Administration is on
a recruitment spree, in which the number of PWD new joinees has
increased five fold in comparison to the previous year. Shri S.K.
Sahu, FA&CAO was also present on the occasion. Shri Pravat
Kumar Dash, Welfare Officer(I/c) and Manager, Legal of PPT
compered the event.
Paradip Port has added yet another feather to its cap by successfully
competing movement of 24 vessels within 24 Hrs. on 03.12.2017.
In the first shift - 9 no. of vessels, in the 2nd shift - 7 No. vessels, in
the third shift - 8 no. of vessels were handled by the Marine Deptt. of
PPT and a total of 2,37,341 MT Cargo was handled on the same day.
Commenting on the commendable performance, Shri A.K.
Mohapatra, Dy. Conservator (I/c) and Harbour Master, PPT told,
"This has been possible due to agile Marine Pilots of PPT,
concerned stevedores and the co-operation extended by the Traffic
Deptt. Previous record stood at 19 vessels handled by PPT in a
single day. " He also thanked Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT for
his exemplary guidance.
Paradip Port is now gearing up to handle Cape size vessels regularly
inside the Harbour to enhance the Cargo throughput as it is vying
for the coveted top position in the Country with a slew of other
infrastructure and modernisation facilities of the Port.

Cleaning Operations by PPT under Swachh Bharat Campaign in the localities of Paradip
PPT continued its campaign for cleaning of Paradip
town, as the Administrative Deptt. of Paradip Port
Trust carried out cleaning operations near Paradip
Bus Stand under Swachh Bharat Campaign on
09.12.2017. Under the guidance of Shri UR Mohan
Raju, Secretary, PPT, the message - “Our
Cleanliness is the beauty of Mother India” was
spread out. The Officers and Employees of the
Administrative Deptt. of PPT cleaned the
surroundings, roads and drainages, removed the
roadside garbage, weeds, debris etc. from the
respective areas.
PPT has made a year-long schedule to undertake
cleanliness in and around Paradip area on 1st and 3
rd Saturday of every month, by each Department.

Sagarmala Project
As a part of capacity augmentation
under Sagarmala programme, an outer
harbour is proposed by PPT at an
estimated cost of ` 8764 Cr. to handle
large Cape size vessels up to 2 Lakh
DWT, up to 22 M draught.
The 41st All India Major Port Athletics Meet and 29th Children
Athletics Meet jointly organised by Major Ports Sports Control
Board and Paradip Port Sports Council concluded at Gopabandhu
Stadium on 13.12.2017. The host Paradip Port has emerged as
Overall Champion whereas the Visakhapatnam Port bagged the
Runners Up title. Ms. Nivedita Tarai of Paradip Port Trust emerged
the highest medal winner with a total medal haul of 12 Nos. in the
Under 18 Girls Category total 4 Gold, Silver and Bronze each. In the
4 days sports extravaganza, 214 men, women and children athletes
from 7 Major Ports i.e. from Chennai Port Trust, Cochin Port Trust,
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, New Mangalore
Port Trust, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and the host Paradip Port Trust
were vying for the top honours.
Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT attended the valedictory function
as Chief Guest and gave away the prizes. He appealed to the
athletes to continue their sportsman spirit and bring more laurels at
the national and international levels. Smt. Shubalaxmi Roy,
President, Paradip Ladies Club attending as Guest of Honour on the
occasion also distributed the prizes. Shri A. Jayasimha, CME, PPT
and President of Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad (GKS) presided over
the function and gave the introductory remarks. Shri S.C. Nahak,
SE, PPT and Working President of GKS and Shri Manas Kumar Sehti,
Vice Chairman, Organising Committee also spoke on the occasion.
Shri Rabi Das, Secretary, PPT Sports Council offered the vote of
thanks. The Meet came to an end with a splendid Fire Crackers
Show. Senior officials and employees from PPT and sports
enthusiasts form the port township were present in large numbers.

A one day training programme on "Strategy Management" was held by Tanvi Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd., Bhubaneswar in which 13 participants participated.
A two days training programme on "Work Ethics & Work Culture" was organised by Manav Adhyayan Kendra, Bhubaneswar from 18th to 19th December, 2017 in which 13 participants participated.
