Vocational Service is not occasional service
For years Rotary rsquos commitment to Service Above Self has been channeled through the Five Avenues of Service which form the foundation of club activity To get started on a project think broadly about how our club and members could contribute within each avenue viz Club Service Vocational Service Community Service International Service and New Generations Vocational Service one of Rotary rsquos Avenues of Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their professions and to practice high ethical standards Rotarians as business or profession leaders share skills and expertise through their vocations and inspire others in the process
Vocational Guidance Rtn Surya with career aspirants during one of the
Rotary Career Seminars organized in an educational institution [File photo]
Vocational Service Month shall be observed annually in October as a specia l month devoted to vocat ional service to emphasize the involvement of each Rotarian in the everyday practice of the ideals of vocational service
Rotarys emphasis on vocational service has its roots in the founding of the organization in 1905 And the use of the classification principle - the guideline by which Rotary membership is determined - assures that our club has among its members a cross-section of a communitys business and pro fess iona l popu la t i on When any bus iness persons o r professionals join Rotary club they do so as a representative of their part icular business or profession This gives Rotarians the dual responsibility of representing their vocation within the club and of exemplifying the ideals of Rotary within the workplace The second part of the Object of Rotary calls for Rotarians to apply high ethical standards in their businesses and professions recognize the worthiness of a l l useful occupat ions and to consider their own occupations as opportunities to serve society Vocational service is both the responsibility of a club and of its members The role of our club is to implement and encourage the objective by frequent demonstration by application to its own actions by example and by development of projects that help members contribute their vocational talents The role of the members is to conduct themselves their businesses and their professions in accordance with Rotary principles and to respond to projects which our club developes in future Rotarians have a vast amount of expertise in areas that include management supervision marketing finance risk management and ethical business practices They can share all of these skills with the greater community through vocational service projects any time but preferably in October This is the reason we have lined up several events in October viz WeBlog - International Day of Non-Violence WeBlog - Vocational Service - The Soul of Rotary Online Meeting - My Favourite WeBlog-Future Planning Tips Online Meeting - Vocational Awards You are also invited to attend a workshop (physical attendance) District Event- Polio Plus Orientation Meet

How to Improve Your Memory amp Exercise Your Brain
Part - II
l Exercise daily Regular aerobic exercise improves circulation and efficiency throughout the body including in the brain and can help ward off the memory loss that comes with aging Exercise also makes you more alert and relaxed and can thereby improve your memory uptake allowing you to take better mental ldquopicturesrdquo
l Reduce stress Chronic stress although it does not physically damage the brain can make remembering much more difficult Even temporary stresses can make it more difficult to effectively focus on concepts and observe things Try to relax regularly practice yoga or other stretching exercises and see a doctor if you have severe chronic stress
l Eat well and eat right There are a lot of herbal supplements on the market that claim to improve memory but none have yet been shown to be effective in clinical tests (although small studies have shown some promising results for ginkgo biloba and phosphatidylserine) A healthy diet however contributes to a healthy brain and foods containing antioxidantsmdash broccoli blueberries spinach and berries for examplemdashand Omega-3 fatty acids appear to promote healthy brain functioning Feed your brain with such supplements as Thiamine Vitamin E Niacin and Vitamin B-6 Grazing eating 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day instead of 3 large meals also seems to improve mental functioning (including memory) by limiting dips in blood sugar which may negatively affect the brain

With Best Wishes
