What are the e-Learning tools available to me?

Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which offers a range of tools to support learning and facilitate collaborative activities online.

The Learning Material Filestore (LMF) is an online file storage and sharing facility available to all students and staff at the University of Bath.

Confluence is a tool that allows for the fast, easy creation of wiki pages which can be used for collaborative activities.

phpBB, an easy to use discussion forum, is suitable for those who do not require full VLE functionality.

The e-Learning tools website can be found at: www.bath.ac.uk/e-learning/

What is e-Learning?

e-Learning is learning facilitated and supported through the use of Information and Communication Technology. (JISC, 2004)

JISC’s Effective Practice with e-learning guide would provide for a useful starting point. Find it at: www.jisc.ac.uk/elp_practice.html

How can I get involved?

For information on training courses, such as An Introduction to Moodle and Using Wikis in Learning and Teaching, visit: www.bath.ac.uk/lteo/

A related Practitioners Forum has recently been established and is open to all staff. Please email [email protected] for more details.
