PARISH NEWS
St. John Paul II was born Karol
Wojtyla in the small Polish town of
Wadowice. During World War II,
when the Nazis invaded Poland,
Karol secretly studied for the
priesthood in an underground
seminary. He was ordained to the
priesthood in 1946, appointed
Archbishop of Krakow in 1964, and
three years later he was made a
Cardinal. In 1978, he was elected
the 264
th
pope, where he took the
name John Paul II.
St. John Paul II made evangelization
a key part of his papacy and made
pastoral visits to all parts of the
world. In 1981, he was shot twice in
an assassination attempt. Following
Jesus’ example of compassion, he
later met with his would-be assassin
in his prison cell, where he forgave
him for what he had done.
St. John Paul II was well-known to
be an active sportsman throughout
his life, hiking and skiing well into his
60s. In 1992, his health began to
decline, and it was later discovered
that he suffered from Parkinson’s
disease, a degenerative disorder of
the central nervous system.
Near the end of his papacy, it
became difficult for him to speak,
and his poor health and physical
suffering made public appearances
difficult. Still, he continued his
pastoral work. He died April 2,
2011. He became a saint on April
27, 2014.
Interested in the Afghan Resettlement Effort?
Our friends at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church are starting the process to be able to
host Afghan families. We have the opportunity to volunteer with them, to support
these families.
Anyone interested in participating in a role that may involve contact with members
of the refugee families are encouraged to attend a ZOOM information meeting,
provided by Lutheran Social Services. It is a requirement to become a 1-on-1
volunteer for a co-sponsor group through their agency. The meetings are 6:30-
7:30pm Oct.19th or Oct. 26th. You need only attend one information session. If
you are more comfortable attending the ZOOM meeting with others, you can
attend at St. Patrick's on one of those Tuesdays in the conference room. Or you
are welcome to join the Sugar Creek Lutheran group. The link is provided below if
you view at home.

Please join us this Sunday night or Wednesday night at 6 PM
at Saint Andrew gym to be inspired by our Lord through his
mighty disciple, magician Danny Ray, from California. Danny’s
Bible-based lesson will surely dazzle you and bring you closer
to Christ. All ages are welcome and encouraged to join us for this one hour of
fellowship fun, illusions, magic, and so much more. Don’t miss out and tell your
friends. There is no cost to you for this inspiring experience but the payout can be
extraordinary.
Mass of Remembrance: St. Andrew will have a
special Mass on Tuesday, November 2 at 7:00 pm to
pray for those who are dear to us and have gone
ahead to the Lord. We will remember in a special way
those from our parish who have passed away since
November of last year - their names will be called and
a candle lit in their memory. All are welcome!
We also realize that some of our parishioners may
have lost a family member who was buried at another parish within the past 12
months. We will also have candles available to light in their memory. If you
would like a candle to be lit in their memory and plan on attending we ask that
you also call the office 728-5922 or email us - [email protected] to
let us know. There is no better way to honor our deceased loved ones than to offer
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
You may also bring photos of any loved one who has passed away to place on
the Altar of the Dead beginning the weekend of Oct. 30th. The Altar of the Dead
will be displayed until Nov. 19. Please pick up your photos before Nov. 16.
