April 25th is the date scheduled for the next First Aid class Certifica-tions need to be updated every two years and it is in everyonersquos best

interest that our RSOs have a good background in first aid procedure Truth be told however is that this is a ldquomore the merrierrdquo type of training that

every club member should be involved in to some extent Match Directors and all shoot Chairs should all be certified also It simply makes good sense and I certainly encourage you all to sign up

Many of you may have noticed that the Range has started to green up and I would go so far as to call it down right beautiful Denny Martin does a nice job of keeping it mowed However with warmer weather on the way there will be hazards that we all need to be aware of First is that the ground varmints will be out in force digging holes and looking for mates to produce more varmints The increased food supply means that rattlesnakes will be out looking for them We (our members) are not allowed to shoot or kill either of them but I personally encourage the rattlesnakes to eat all the gophers and ground squirrels they can find (which is allowed) Accordingly use a bit more caution when going down-range If you encounter a rattlesnake simply go around it They will not chase you down If any are encountered around the Meeting Hall they will be removed to a safer spot Do not play with them but do report them

The second hazard is that grass will start to dry out and eventually becomes a bit of a fire hazard The Association has done an excellent job of pre-positioning fire hoses on the various ranges and has plans for more RSOs need to make certain they are familiar with the position and operation of all fire hoses The general membership should do the same since an RSO may not always be present If a fire should start put it out immediately do not hesitate Emergency phone numbers are posted at each range and in the meeting hall Remember that the associations address is important also in the event that you call in an emergency from your cell phone Every member needs to review the Associationrsquos emer-gency SOP If you need a copy I will be happy to email a copy A simple email request is all that is required

I check the range at least three to four times a week and still four things that need to be worked on 1 Stop at the entrance gate and make certain no one follows you in2 Slow down when driving around the range There is a no dust rule which will be more strictly enforced3 Rapid fire on the pistol range usually means a lack of control It will be more strictly enforced 4 RSOs need to have immediate access to first-aid kits Make certain that you have one available at all times

r A n g e m A s t e r s o u n d o f f
