    European employment services.For whom?Why?

EURES (European Employment Services) is a network o co-operation o public employment services and their partnerson the labor market, supporting the mobility in the feld o employment on the international level, in the European Eco-nomic Area countries, namely in the EU member states and Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, as well as in Switzerland.

EUERES started o cial activities in 1994. The guiding idea was a thoughtabout opening the European labor market. During that time, all memberstates protected own labor markets, there ore the Community marketwas closed or citizens o the Old Continent. There were no ideas, therewas no common recruitment system that would enable an easy access toquali ed employees rom various countries and search or ones dream

employer within the European Union. Only the European System or JobO ers SEDOC was operating. However, the system was not per ect. Col-lection o in ormation under the system was ar rom the ideal. Today, the Europeans may use EURES network, supporting the mobility o em-ployment in international environments o the European Economic Areacountries.

The EURES is ormed by representatives or employment o all EU mem-ber states. Not only domestic markets are supported, the same regardsregional, local markets, trade unions and organizations o employers. Theinternational employment agency has to acilitate fow o in ormationand help in a search or and nding ones eet on the international labormarket The basic principles o the EURES include elimination o barri-ers preventing the mobility o the Europeans and in orming about livingconditions and employment opportunities in a particular country.

The reason why the project E-Bridge to mobility wascreated came mainly rom observing the EU labourmarket and analysis o the needs o Eastern Europeemigrants (especially those rom Bulgaria, Poland,Romania and Slovakia). They are moving rom one EUcountry to another (especially to England, Germany,Spain) or educational, nancial or social reasons.

This project has been unded with support rom theEuropean Commission. This publication refects theviews only o the author, and the Commission cannot bheld responsible or any use which may be made o thin ormation contained therein.
