Regular exercise can help you get ready for the stress on your body during pregnancy and labor. It can also help make the muscles needed for delivery stronger. Plus, staying active can lessen some of the discomforts of pregnancy. It can give you more energy, too.

The type and intensity of exercise you do during pregnancy depends on your health. It also depends on how active you were before you became pregnant. Regular exercise at least three times a week is better for you than spurts of exercise followed by long periods of inactivity. If you did not do any exercise before becoming pregnant, walking is a good way to begin an exercise program.

exercise within reason

If you were active before you became pregnant, there is no reason you cannot keep doing so. But you must do so within reason. You can probably keep doing some activitiesaslongasyoufeelOKdoingthem. This includes: • jogging •golfing • swimming •bowling •playingtennis

You will need to stop taking part in sports in which you might fall or be bumped.

Safety tips

Plus, remember, before you begin an exercise program, talkwithyourdoctor.Makesureyoufollowyourdoctor’sadvice. If you are having problems with your pregnancy, you should not exercise.
