2013 HCBC Award Winners!

The Horse Council BC Awards Gala was held on March 8, 2014 tocelebrate the athletes, coaches, horses, volunteers and all aroundamazing people who stood out in 2013. The HCBC Awards Gala took place during the 2014 BC EquineEducation Summit and was enthusiastically supported by the conferenceattendees and sponsors, Capri Insurance, Otter Co-Op, and CanadianHorse Journals. QMFM Radio Announcer, Crystal Darche, was the hostfor this year's big Gala and was an absolute star. She was the perfecthost for the evening, adding an element of humour and lightness to thewhole event. Karen Lee Batten and her band were a hit and playedgreat music. They even got people up and dancing after the awardswere over! The HCBC Awards Gala would not have been the samewithout her. Steve Charles from Totem Photographics was thephotographer for the evening and everyone had a great time posing infront of the logo banner and the "paparazzi" to get their photos taken! Hannah Beaulieu from Maple Ridge, BC, is proving to be the rising starof International Dressage scene winning a clean sweep of awards at theCalifornia Dreaming's FEI International Dressage CDIW 3* in San JuanCapistrano, California on March 21 - 23, 2014. Hannah turned out forthe official FEI Horse Inspection and was promptly awarded the "BestTurn Out" for the jog by the Panel of International FEI Judges. In her firstday of competition Hannah and her 10 year old Rheinlander gelding"Pharoah" won the FEI Junior Team Test, on day two placed a veryclose 2nd in the FEI Junior Individual Test, and returned on day 3winning the FEI Junior Freestyle Test, to be crowned overall the FEIJunior Champion! BC Equestrian Trails Fund:The BC Equestrian Trails Fund was established to provide support forHCBC member clubs and affiliates who have researched and planned aspecific project related to the construction and/or maintenance of anequestrian trail, trailhead or horse camping site in British Columbia forpublic use. 2014 Share The Trails WorkshopReview by Sharon Pickthorne,Treasurer - BCHBC, Chair of North Vancouver Island Chapter -BCHBC, & Director - Horse Council BC This was a full day workshop in its second year. It was joint workshophosted by HCBC and Outdoor Recreation Council (ORC). Jeremy McCall,Executive Director of ORC, was the Emcee. Rose Schroeder, SharonPickthorne and Connie Falk attended.

Trail builders and enthusiasts from around the province came together atthe Hilton Vancouver Airport. This was an invitational event attempting toincrease the dialogue between all trail user groups and governmentofficials.(Read More)
