FibeR CoRneRConstruction is complete on the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) project in Brady and cutovers are in progress. Customers in Brady should have received information in the mail from 3 Rivers with details on the process for cutting over from the old copper facilities to the new fiber optics. Included in the mailing are special offers on High Speed Internet and 3 Rivers’ own 3RTV digital TV. Construction is in the final phase in Lima and we tentatively plan to begin cutovers to fiber in early 2017.

Construction bids for the 2017 FTTH project in the rural Choteau area will go out before the end of the year with tentative plans calling for construction to begin in in the spring of 2017.

Check this space each issue for more information and updates on 3 Rivers FTTH projects. You can also check out our FAQ in the Fiber-to-the-Home section on 3rivers.net.

What is Wi-Fi anD Why shoulD i CaRe?Nearly every device that connects to the Internet today does so using Wi-Fi. Everything from tablets to TVs to refrigerators (!) are Wi-Fi-enabled.

Wi-Fi stands for “wireless fidelity”―the technology that allows a device such as a Wi-Fi router to turn a hard-wired Internet connection into a wireless signal. Without this router, every device in your home or office would need a cord to connect to the Internet.

Wi-Fi doesn’t replace your 3 Rivers Internet connection―it simply makes it usable for non-hardwired devices within range to connect to it.

There are some issues that can affect a Wi-Fi router’s performance. Wireless signals from a router are susceptible to interference from everyday household appliances like microwaves or cordless phones or even other Wi-Fi routers. However, newer Wi-Fi routers do a better job at overcoming interference than earlier models once did.

A router not capable of delivering sufficient throughput may be a bottleneck for your entire network. However a less powerful router may be fine for your situation.

For more information on Wi-Fi, routers, troubleshooting tips and more, visit 3rivers.net/support/internet/home-wi-fi-basics
