SITUATION
30 YEARS AGO
Solidarity, full name: Independent Self-governing Trade Union "Solidarity" is a Polish trade union federation founded in September 1980 at the Gdask Shipyard, and originally led by Lech Walesa
30 YEARS AGO
Solidarity was the first non- communist party-controlled trade union in a Warsaw Pact country
In the 1980s it constituted a broad anti-bureaucratic social movement
The government attempted to destroy the union during the period of martial law in the early 1980s
In the end it was forced to start negotiating with the union
EUROPEAN CENTER OF SOLIDARITY
The European Solidarity Centre (ECS) is a multifunctional cultural institution combining scientific and educational functions
The main purpose of the ECS is to preserve the heritage and retain a fond memory of Solidarity movement
European Solidarity Centre was organizing the celebrations commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Solidarity Movement which will take place on 31 August 2010 in Gdask and on 5 September 2010 in Warsaw
The campaign Thank You Solidarity was the first step of reconciling a divided society and its aim was the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Solidaritys creation

LECH WALESA
Lech Walesa wrote special letter to encourage to join our inititative
HEROES OF SOLIDARITY
Badges were distributed through media, while people who had original badges from the Solidarity movement were encouraged to wear them

MAIN STREET OF WARSAW
We encouraged people on the streets to thank Solidarity
MAIN STREET OF GDASK
We encouraged people on the streets of Gdansk, where Solidarity began
SHIPYARD
We made pictures in historical shipyard in Gdask, which was the arena for events that changed the face of the world
THIRD STAGE
BILLBOARD
Out of all the pictures, that were selected a billboard was created on which the pictures of people formed the Solidarno word

The Advertising Value Equivalency amounted to 350000 euro, while the publications in just the press resulted in 1896 127 impressions
Articles describing the campaign appeared in all main Polish daily newspapers

Polands most prominent politicians, journalists and celebrities sent in their pictures with the Solidarity badge or thank-you note

Internet users showed their support for the campaign on the ECS fansite the number of fans grew five times in just that month
Many young people discussed about Solidarity, comented, uploaded photos, have taken part in our initiative

When you send us your picture at the same time you give us a right for public using of your image during the celebration of 30th anniversary of the August 1980 events.
Join our initiative and support Solidarity values thanks to Solidarity Poland and Europe can enjoy freedom and democracy. Let us say Thank You Solidarity. It does not matter which political party you support,
what is your religion or what is your age. Also, it does not matter which country you come from.
Most important is that now Poland and Europe are free, democratic and open.
Let us thank Solidarity for everything it has done for freedom in Europe.
How to support the idea?
1. Download and print out (preferably in color) the unique Thank You Solidarity sign. You can download it from
the web page (www.ecs.gda.pl) or Facebook profile (www.facebook.com/solidaritycentre) of the European
Solidarity Centre
2. Take a picture of yourself with the printed sign
(REMEBER! It is very important that both your face and the sign are visible)
3. Send your picture with the printed sign to: http://apps.facebook.com/solidarnoscdziekuje
4. Upload your picture on your Facebook profile
5. You can also take a picture of your relatives, friends or colleagues or forward it to them
To commemorate the events of August 1980 in Gdask,
which led to the birth of Solidarity, a unique poster will be created with all the received pictures.

Cela ne serait pas possible si ce ntait pas pour les vnements de 1980 en Pologne.

2. Prendre une photo de soi-mme avec le slogan (IMPORTANT! Il faut que ton visage ainsi que la feuille soient
