HEPA filterBacteria and viruses in washrooms can cause colds, flu, sickness, diarrhoea or worse. Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have HEPA filters installed as standard, which capture 99.9% of particles the size of bacteria and viruses in the washroom air.

Other hand dryers are too slowOther hand dryers are much slower than their manufacturer’s claim – with dry times based on drying hands without a HEPA filter. Many people give up when using a slow hand dryer. But damp hands can spread up to 1,000 times more bacteria than dry hands.

Dyson hand dryers are fastEvery second, up to 35 litres of air is forced through apertures up to 0.8mm wide. The result – 430mph sheets of air that scrape water from hands, drying them quickly and hygienically.

1Dyson Test Method (DTM) 769

Used by: Dyson.

Requirements: 3 men, 3 women, 1 paper towel (to dry hands and measure residual moisture).

Process: Use paper towel to measure moisture on hands after 5 second increments. Repeat five times –interpolate/extrapolate average time to reach 0.1 and/or 01.49g residual moisture.

Note: Method based on DTM 553, and further developed by NSF.

2National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) P335 “Hygienic Commercial Hand Dryers”

Used by: Dyson, Warner Howard.

Requirements: 3 men, 3 women, 1 paper towel (to dry hands and measure residual moisture).

Process: Use paper towel to measure moisture on hands after 15 seconds. Repeat four times – 01.49g residual moisture for all results is considered a “pass,” as part of hygiene accreditation.

Note: Not to be confused with NSF 169 “Special Purpose Food Equipment and Devices” referenced by Mitsubishi.

3Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Product Category Rules (PCR) for hand dryers

Used by: Excel Dryer, Hokwang.

Requirements: 3 men, 3 women, 2 paper towels (to dry hands and measure residual moisture).

Process: Use paper towel to measure moisture on hands after 2s increments. Repeat six times – eliminate highest and lowest results, then interpolate average time to reach 0.25g residual moisture.

Note: Higher residual moisture will result in lower dry times.

Another key bit of work that we have been focusing on is usability and user understanding.We’re aware that this product is different, so we’ve been completing user trials to ensure user understanding.So far, we have 462 data sets of users trying the Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer. We’ve been able to use hand tracking software which accurately maps users’ hands and has allowed us to define the optimum sensor position.

Certified by NSF InternationalDyson asked independent public health specialists NSF to define the criteria for a hygienic hand dryer. The result is NSF Protocol P335 – and the Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer is the only hand dryer that meets every part of it.

Certified by Quiet MarkThe Noise Abatement Society tested and approved the decibel levels and sound quality of the Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer – awarding them the Quiet Mark.

In the event of failure, a new main body assembly, compromising of the motor, electronics and outer housing will be sent to the customer. The faulty unit should be returned to Dyson for disposal.

The 9kJ splash back protects the wall from water damage and can be used to cover holes/marks left from previously installed products.It can also be used for holes left in the wall from the removal of the Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer.Do not fix to unsupported plasterboard (drywall) as this will not provide a safe and secure installation for the machine and may also invalidate the guarantee. Where only unsupported plasterboard is available for installation, a Dyson backplate must be used.If the wall has an airgap, the fixings used must be of a sufficient length to provide a secure installation. Don't use sealant when fixing the machine to the wall.To cover holes/marks left from previously installed products.To protect the surface the product is mounted on from water splash caused by drying hands
