Other hand dryers are too slowOther hand dryers are much slower than their manufacturer’s claim – with dry times based on drying hands without a HEPA filter. Many people give up when using a slow hand dryer. But damp hands can spread up to 1,000 times more bacteria than dry hands.

Dyson hand dryers are fastEvery second, up to 35 litres of air is forced through apertures up to 0.8mm wide. The result – 430mph sheets of air that scrape water from hands, drying them quickly and hygienically.

Process: Use paper towel to measure moisture on hands after 5 second increments. Repeat five times –interpolate/extrapolate average time to reach 0.1 and/or 01.49g residual moisture.

Note: Method based on DTM 553, and further developed by NSF.

2National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) P335 “Hygienic Commercial Hand Dryers”

Used by: Dyson, Warner Howard.

Requirements: 3 men, 3 women, 1 paper towel (to dry hands and measure residual moisture).

Process: Use paper towel to measure moisture on hands after 15 seconds. Repeat four times – 01.49g residual moisture for all results is considered a “pass,” as part of hygiene accreditation.

Another key bit of work that we have been focusing on is usability and user understanding.We’re aware that this product is different, so we’ve been completing user trials to ensure user understanding.So far, we have 462 data sets of users trying the Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer. We’ve been able to use hand tracking software which accurately maps users’ hands and has allowed us to define the optimum sensor position.
