  • 3600 Nodes The 3600 MainStreet Bandwidth Manager is the cornerstone of the 36xx series of multiplexers. The manner in which the 3600 node is configured is similar to that of all 36xx series Multiplexers.

  • 3600 Nodes Single-shelf / Dual Shelf

Single shelf - 32Mbps switching capacity

Dual Shelf - 64 Mbps switching capacity

  • ST Bus structure Each Card has 3 ST Busses to the DX Chip set The DX Chips are found on the control card and the Expander Card

  • Single Bandwidth Each Signal Time Bus consists of 32 channels. Data Bus carries traffic at the rate of 64 Kbps. Control Bus carries maintenance information. The one ST Bus can accommodate no more than 32, 64 Kbps circuit, this is called single bandwidth. (8 x 2M) = 16 Mb.DXUniversal Card SlotData BusControl Bus AControl Bus B

  • Double Bandwidth Has 2 Data ST Busses. Can accommodate 64, 64 Kbps circuits. This is called Double bandwidth.

  • Control Packet Switching System (CPSS) Newbridge proprietary - based on X.25 protocol.

Control Packet Switching System (CPSS) is a Newbridge proprietary system based on the X.25 protocol used for network management.

Used for carrying network information and control. It is used for carrying network information and control commands around the network.

Needs to be present on connections to all nodes.CPSS needs to be configured on links for all nodes that are to be managed by a network manager. Redundancy needs to be built in to ensure that network management can still take place even if one of the links fails

  • Control Packet Switching System (CPSS) Types of CPSS : Dedicated CPSS, which is generally used between nodes for network management Shared CPSS, which is used mainly for house-keeping tasks on the node itself. (Shelf A Shelf B)

Capabilities of controlling: 40 domains. 250 nodes in each domain.

  • Control Card (CTL). Provides all common control an d Node management facilities for the 3600 system. It includes the following :

Interfacing with the Node Management Terminal (NMT). Control of the configuration database and system clocks Coordination of the network synchronization signals. The running of the system software.

It consists of the following modules : Memory Module (MM). System Synchronization Unit (SSU) Module. Status 7 segment LED.

Installed In Slot 9 Redundant Control Card is installed.

  • Expander Card (EXP). With no module. Six Slots with single bandwidth. (6 + 2) module will support double band width to slot 7 & 8 on shelf A. (8 + 8) module will support double band width to slot 7 & 8 on shelf A & B. (16 +) module supports double band width to all 16 slots. Single Shelf (2*16 = 32 Mb Capacity) Double Shelf (2*32 = 64 Mb Capacity) In 2nd Shelf CTL&EXP Card is used for redundancy. Expander Card is installed in slot No. 10.

  • General Facility Cards (GFC & GFC2) GFC is a 2 slots wide card and GFC2 is a narrow i.e single slot wide.

In PTCL GFC Card is used. GFC and GFC2 Cards provide :

An integral tone generator 1004 Hz tone. Composite Clock Generator. A test point --- 4-wire E&M interface. An order wire facility an LGS interface. Power Rail test points.

    +/- 5 VDC , +/- 12 VDC, -48 VDC, 90V

  • VOICE Cards. LGS Voice Card. LGE Voice Card. E&M Card.

  • LGS VOICE Card. Connects Telephones to High Speed Digital Trunks.
