During spring break we received exciting news

regarding our third grade IREAD test scores. Just

two weeks ago, all third graders in the State of

Indiana took this reading test on a computer, which,

according to state statute determines whether they

can be promoted to grade four. I am so pleased to

say that we did very well and passed at approximately

a 98% rate. Letters were sent to all third grade

parents this week. If you have any questions, please

don’t hesitate to ask one of the third grade teachers

or me.

The “Part Two – Multiple Choice Portion” of the

Spring ISTEP+ test begins the week of April 28th for

all students in grades 3, 4 and 5. In addition to math

and language arts, students in 4th grade will have a

science test, and students in 5th grade will have a

social studies test. This testing counts for 80% of

the total score, with the applied skills portion we

took in March counting for 20%. Scores will arrive in

late May. ALL grades will be taking the test online in

the computer labs. It is extremely important for

students to be present and ready for testing on their

scheduled days. The testing window is very tight for

us to fit in all our classes using the computer labs,

and we are counting on our parents to help us have

every student present on their scheduled testing

days. Thank you in advance for all your efforts to

ensure that. I will include the testing schedule per

teacher next week, so that you will know exactly

which days your child’s class is testing in order to

avoid any absences on those days. Thanks!

PENNY WARS Our Student Council will soon be sponsoring a Penny War so start saving your pennies! “Penny Wars” will run from Monday, April 21st through Friday, April 25th. The money

raised will be used to make improvements in our school. A Culligan water bottle with your teacher’s name on it will be outside your classroom door. Here’s how it works---you put your pennies in your own jar and your dollars and silver coins in another class but NOT your own class bottle. The goal is to end up with a positive total. Again, you only put pennies in your own jar and silver coins and dollars in other classroom jars. NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK NEWS The Crown Point Library is hosting its annual “A Hole Lot of Fun” Mini Golf Event on Saturday, April 12th from 10am to 3pm. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20 for a group of five. There will be raffles, free refreshments, games and more in the Family Fun Zone. There will also be a “HOLE DECORATING CONTEST” BETWEEN AREA SCHOOLS. Show your school spirit and come out and play and vote for Eisenhower Elementary! Three winning schools will win a cash prize to purchase books for their school library – first place is $300.00, second place is $200.00 and third place is $100.00. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Crown Point Library. Our Principal, Mrs. Chapko, said she would match the amount that Eisenhower wins in the Mini Golf School Library Decorating Contest. So make sure you come out to the Crown Point Library and VOTE for EISENHOWER’S EMERALD CITY (MINI GOLF HOLE NUMBER 14)! NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK In honor of National Library Week beginning on Sunday, April 13th through Saturday, April 19th, 2014, Eisenhower Elementary School Library will be doing a community service project to help the Lake County Animal Control Center in Crown Point, Indiana. We will be taking donations of pet food, bleach, kitty litter, old towels, and pet toys. For every item donated the children will receive a raffle ticket. We will pick four raffle winners on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2:30pm. We are also having an essay contest. Students will write a short essay on their favorite animal book

and why they loved the story and turn it into Mrs. Einikis by Thursday, April 17, 2014 by 10:00am. Two winners will be chosen from all the entries. The winners will be announced at 2:30pm. We’ll also have some very special four-legged guests visiting the library on this very

MCDONALD’S MCSCHOOL NIGHT FUNDRAISER We hope you can make it to Eisenhower’s McSchool Night which will be on Wednesday, April 16th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the McDonald’s located at 135 North Main Street in Crown Point. McDonald’s vouchers will be sent home next week and will need to be presented at time of order. The classroom with the most attendance at McSchool Night receives lunch from McDonalds! CP JR. BULLDOG CHEERLEADING REGISTRATION!!! Cheerleading registration is here! Registration for Returning Cheerleaders will be on Friday, April 11th from 5pm to 7pm and New Cheerleaders on Saturday, April 12th from 10am to 2pm. The CP Jr. Bulldog Cheerleading organization has opened registration to ALL girls entering 1st-8th grade for the 2014-2015 school year. Registration will be held at Lake Street Elementary School and numbers will be passed out at 9am Saturday on a first come- first serve basis and registration will begin at 10am. The annual fee of $60 plus any uniform cost must be paid at registration. Please bring your cheerleader with you to register with a leotard/bathing suit UNDER HER CLOTHING as there will be no privacy at the try-on station. BOWL AND VISIT WITH THE EASTER BUNNY Reserve your spot at the Super Bowl (located at 218 South East Street in Crown Point) on Friday, April 18th, at 10:15am, Noon, 1:45pm or 3:30pm. Reservations are required and the cost is $10.50 per child for one hour of unlimited bowling, which includes shoe rental, time to visit with the Easter Bunny and an Easter gift for every child!
