IBM er s,

I have a PSer ies 615 power 4 ser ver that was pur chased fr om Ebay. I installed AIX 6.1 on the

ser ver and I' ve had no issues with ssh, etc.

T o boot the ser ver I ssh to a Linux ser ver r unning M inicom - connected to the ser ial por t, I

can inter act with the service processor without issues over the ser ial por t and all the

com m ands wor k without issues ( booting and changing the ser vice m enu) .

T he pr oblem ar i ses afte r AIX boot up; I am pr esented with a "Console login" pr om pt, I enter

the r oot user , but it just pr om pts again for "login:" , no m atter what I do it goes back to "login:"

I booted the ser ver into m aintenance - then chose to boot fr om the DVD.

i m ounted the vg r an the com m and above but no luck, I also tr ied with the tty0 device, no luck

either .

boot into m aintenance - m ount the r ootvg

Once I added this, I was able to get the fir st- boot m enu and set the var ious par am eter s to
