Eighty years old and in assisted living, Ralph Pajovic (the lateDavid Margulies) is involved in a relationship that makes his familyanxious in CURMUDGEONS (Danny DeVito, 16 min.). A youngwoman returns to her hometown neighborhood to make a filmabout their daily activities, but finds the outdoor bustle is lessactive during winter season in SMALL TALK (Hilary Campbell, 7 min.). Little Italy transforms from a working class neighborhoodof tenement buildings to the third most expensive zip code in theUnited States in MULBERRY (Paul Stone, 19 min.). A 91-year-oldHolocaust survivor donates his violin of 70 years to a local instru-ment drive, changing the life of a 12-year-old school girl in theBronx in JOE’S VIOLIN (Kahane Cooperman, 24 min.). In the late 1960s, Eva Hesse, a34 year-old German-bornAmerican artist was crestingthe wave of a swiftly risingcareer. One of the few womenrecognized as central to theNew York art scene, she hadover 20 group shows scheduledfor 1970 in addition to beingchosen for a cover article inArtForum Magazine. Her workwas finally receiving both thecritical and commercial atten-tion it deserved. When she diedin May, 1970 from a brain tumor,the life of one of that decades’most passionate and brilliantartists was tragically cut short.Her work is now held by manyimportant museum collectionsincluding the Whitney, MoMA,and London’s Tate Modern.2016, 108 min.
