Laurien Schroeder-Hessels is a born presenter and one of the best female auctioneers. Raised in Holland, Brazil and the United States she speaks fluent Dutch, Portuguese, French, Russian and English. She studied Art History in Leiden, the Netherlands and trained for many years with Christie’s. Now after living in Moscow for 5 years she is based in Chicago. Laurien continues to speak and to conduct

auctions, including many for charitable causes. Pink Ribbon, Right to Play, International Red Cross, Action for Russia’s Children and the ‘Night of the Stars’ for Fulbright scholarships are just a few of the large, high profile charities that have benefited from her auctioneering experience.

As a 501(c)3 charitable organization, Hospice Dreams gives adult hospice patients the opportunity to live out a dream — a final adventure — where they can spend a joy-filled day with loved ones creating memories of living. Whether it’s meeting with their favorite sports team, piloting a plane one last time, or renewing vows with their soul mate, Hospice Dreams provides the opportunity for hospice patients and their families to experience the exhilaration of life once again.

While fulfilling the wish itself is wonderful, it is often secondary to the feelings of love and affirmation individuals receive from the efforts made on their behalf. We’ve helped patients and families make lasting memories, and to become closer to their loved ones as a result of their experience -- these just may be the real dreams being fulfilled.

The hotel was first built in 1929 as the Medinah Men’s Athletic Club, it closed in 1934. It was closed for a time and then reopened as a few different hotels before IHG purchased the property in 1989. The hotel underwent an extensive renovation to bring the hotel back to its original grandeur.

The Hotel has 792 rooms including 77 suites. There are two towers that make up the hotel; Grand Tower and the Historic Tower. The Grand Tower provides mod-ern décor while the Historic Tower stays true to the original design of the tower.
