BOX MUSICRon Hardy was an instrumen-tal DJ in the development of HOUSE MUSIC An innovator and originator of the genre, he is highly regarded not only for his iconic performances at the Music Box, a seminal Chi-cago house music club.

SAM I AMSam Records was a small of-fice from N.Y, that was created in late 1976 by SAM WEISS. It is an incredible small disco label that left us, disco stan-dards (i.e GARY’S GANG). First release seems to have been the 1976 followed John Davis & the Monster Orchestra and their Top 5 single “Night and Day”.

DISCO STUDIOIn the 1970s it became the legendary nightclub located at 254 West 54th Street in Manhattan. The club opened on April 26, 1977 and closed in March 1986. Since 1998, “Stu-dio”, as it came to be called, was notorious for the hedo-nism that occurred within it; the balconies were known for sexual encounters, and drug use was rampant. Its dance floor was decorated with a de-piction of a Man in the Moon that included an animated co-caine spoon.

MFSB-According to the book A House on Fire: the rise and fall of Philadelphia Soul, by John A. Jackson, the MFSB name means “Mother, Father, Sister, Brother”, because ac-cording to Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, despite the diversi-ty at Philadelphia International Records, all were connected musically. This was in line with their spiritual views at the time. However, Jackson has also stated that MFSB actually stood for “mother-fuckin’ son-

of-a-bitch,” a complimen-tary expression (as in, “He plays like a mother-fuckin’ son-of-a-bitch”) used by many players in the stu-dio.

THE MAN-MACHINE

The Man-Machine (Ger-man Language Edition: Die Mensch-Maschine) is the sev-enth studio album by German electronic band Kraftwerk, re-leased in May 1978. The Man-Machine was voted at num-ber 96 on Q magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Albums, and number 92 on Pitchfork Media’s Top 100 Albums of the 1970s.

RADIO-ACTIVITY

Radio-Activity is the fifth stu-dio album by German elec-tronic band Kraftwerk, re-leased in October 1975. Unlike Kraftwerk’s later albums, which featured language-spe-cific lyrics, only the titles differ between the English and German editions. A concept album, Radio-Activity is bilin-gual, featuring lyrics in both languages.

1979 was a pivotal year for Disco Music. The Disco Sucks Campaign began & Disco Music went under ground and fought to survive the neg-ative back-lash. This T-shirt is a graphic homage to the Ali-Forman Heavyweight fight “RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE” in Zaire Africa five years earlier.

Miami based TK Records is closely asso- ciated with the early rise of disco music, be-ing the label on which the first disco song to become a #1 hit on the pop music charts was released, “Rock Your Baby” by George McCrae in 1974. Short-ly after McCrae’s hit, the re-cord label struck gold with KC & The Sunshine Band with 5 #1 songs including “Get DownTonight”. This tee is a Homage to a great Disco Record la-bel and an equally great logo

THIS IS ACIDSeminal Chicago House Mu-sic Label TRAX RECORDS may be best known for invent-ing the squelchy Acid House sound on tracks like “Dream Girl” and “Acid Tracks”. The label was notorious for press-ing it’s 12” inch releases on low quality vinyl but that did not stop the sound from trav-eling around the world and creating a new Dance Music genre that is experiencing a bit of a resurgence over the last couple of years.

PUSH PUSH This song is the epitome of True Disco Production & the title track from the 1978 Disco Masterpiece from Disco Su-per producer Patrick Adam’s studio outfit “MUSIQUE”. One of many Disco Studio projects from Mr Adams who went on to Engineer the genre defin-ing & Hip-Hop Classic “Paid In Full” by Eric B & Rakim.

IN THE BUSH Musique was the studio proj-ect by Patrick Adams, best known for the song, “In the Bush”. It consisted of five sing-ers, Christine Wiltshire, Angela Howell, Gina Taylor Pickens, Mary Seymour Williams and the ubiquitous unsung Disco Diva, Jocelyn Brown. Due to the controversial lyrics of “In the Bush”, many radio sta-tions banned it when it was released during 1978 but it went on to become a Disco Cult Classic!

Rock & Heavy Metal fans lost it and surged onto the field, and a riot en-sued. The event was the culmi- nation of a popu-lar back- lash against disco music. This Design is more of a tongue-in-cheek piss take on an

excellent design.
