There comes a time in Christian missionary leaders lives in which they

need to evaluate themselves and their service. The following checklist will help

make this evaluation. The ones which should be checked with a positive sigh (+)

and the ones that need to be checked with a negative sign (-) should represent the

leader’s positive or negative feeling about the question asked. N/A should be used

to indicate the ones which do not apply to the person’s leadership role. HOW DO

YOU RATE AS A LEADER?

1. Do I demonstrate these general categories of leadership responsibility?

a. ____ administrative (seeing activities and membership)

b. ____ developmental (planning leadership training opportunities)

c. ____ implemental (carrying out plans for activities)

2. Do I perform the following responsibilities of an officer?

a. ___ Carry out administrative objective.

b. ___ Keep superiors informed about accomplishments

c. ___ Support administrative policies fully

3. Do I practice these major functions of my leadership position?

a. ___ Know the organization

b. ___ Plan and schedule activities

RESPONDING TO THE CALL OF SERVICE

There are three types of Christians who respond to the call of

Service:

(1) Rowboat Christians—They have to be pushed wherever

they go;

(2) Sailboat Christians—They always go with the wind;

(3) Steamboat Christians—they make up their mind where

they ought to go and go there regardless of the wind or

weather.

Too often we go through life without stopping to think

about the type of service that we are giving to God.

As we begin a new year and a new Administration in the

Durham County Missionary Union, each of us should take some

time to go into serious prayer. We should ask God to help us

take a serious look at our service to Him. Where changes are

needed. Enter into covenant with Him to make the necessary

changes.

Page 13: DURHAM COUNTY MISSIONARY UNION · The Durham County Missionary Union was organized by the late Sallie Mail, a state worker for the Women’s Home and Foreign Missionary Convention.

13

A PRAYER

Dear Lord, as I begin this day,

Give me grace and strength, I pray.

To do the right and shun the wrong,

And keep within my heart a song.

Let my mind be clear and keen,

My every motive, pure and clean.

That I may see and understand,

The good that's in my fellow man.

And Lord, protect my eyes and ears,

From evil I would see and hear.

And let my arms be ever out,

To those in sorrow, pain and doubt.

Direct my feet lest I should stray,

And cause some soul to lose the way.

I'll follow anywhere you lead,

If you'll provide the faith I need.

And Lord, if there is any way,

Will you control my tongue today?

For all the "parts" my body hosts,

My tongue's the one I use the most.

So take it Lord and "hone" it down,

And make the edges, soft and round.

Don't let me hurt, or criticize,

One living soul, for whom you died.

I dedicate myself to thee,

My body, mind and soul.

I dare not venture from this room,

Till you are fully in control.

And Lord, as I go out today,

To mix with folks along the way.

If you will let me bless just one,

I'll thank you when the day is done.

P.S Lord, if there is no one I can help today,

Then please don't let me hurt anyone.

"Thank you Lord, Amen".

Page 14: DURHAM COUNTY MISSIONARY UNION · The Durham County Missionary Union was organized by the late Sallie Mail, a state worker for the Women’s Home and Foreign Missionary Convention.

14

JOB OR MINISTRY

If you do it because no one else will, it's a Job

If you are doing it to serve the Lord, it's a ministry.

If you do it just enough to get by, it's a job

If you do it to the best of your ability, it's a ministry.

If you quit because someone criticized you, It was a job.

If you keep serving, It's a ministry.

If you quit because no one praised you, it was a job.

If you do it because you think it needs to be done, it's a ministry

It's hard to get excited about a job.

It's almost impossible not to get excited about a ministry

Average churches are filled with many people, doing many jobs.

Great churches are filled with many people who are involved in ministry.

If your concern is just success, it's a job.

If your concern is faithfulness to God, it's a ministry.

People may say, "Well done," when you do your job.

The Lord will say, "WELL DONE," when you complete your ministry.
