DURADUCT.
DURASYSTEMSDURADUCT
The all-in-one cULus-listed fire resistant acoustical duct system.
DuraDuct is the all-in-one acoustical duct system. One
system to address fan breakout noise, mechanical
protection of the duct system and fire resistance.
The outer skin consists of a fire, impact and moisture
resistant shell. No additional wraps or enclosures are
required. With an overall footprint no larger than a
standard duct, it is slim, lightweight and maintenance-
free. DuraDuct is also cULus-listed as a 2-hour fire-rated
duct assembly and also happens to be the largest listed
fire-resistant duct assembly in the industry, giving you
both flexibility in design and confidence in its
performance.
Although the overall installed dimensions of the DuraDuct system are no larger than a standard Sheet Metal and AirConditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) duct, its mass density is an impressive 4.3 lb/ft
2(21 kg/m

greater than that of two layers of drywall. Its Transmission Loss (TL) properties would be greater than that of ¼” plate
ductwork. DuraDuct, with a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 35, would be equivalent to enclosing a standard 22 gauge
duct assembly with acoustic lagging or 1” thick drywall throughout the entire length of ductwork.

THE ACOUSTICS BEHIND DURADUCT.

THE FACTS BEHIND FAN BREAK-OUT NOISE.
Fan breakout noise is sound energy from the fan
that is transmitted through the duct walls as it
travels downstream or upstream in a duct system.
While designers are consciously aware of airborne
noise at the diffusers, fan breakout noise is still a
commonly overlooked aspect in mechanical design.
Good design practices such as maintaining proper
duct velocity, using smooth duct transitions and
selecting appropriate diffusers are critical however
addressing fan breakout noise through the duct
walls is equally important. As reducing supply air
noise is only one part of the puzzle, the re-
introduction of breakout noise may bring the room
noise levels back up above the specified Noise
Criteria (NC) level that the designer originally
anticipated.

THE ALL-IN-ONE SOLUTION.
DuraSteel offers a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 35.
DuraSteel panels are available in 48”x96” sheets and can be
easily cut, drilled and shaped to suit your design requirements.
They are generally screw fixed to a mild steel structural
framework constructed on site.
Painting and corrosion resistant coating options are available.
DuraSteel is a simple, easy, maintenance-free acoustical
solution that is also fire, impact, blast and moisture resistant.
The most common area where breakout noise will be an issue is directly downstream of the supply fan or directly
upstream of the return fan in a rooftop air conditioning unit. Sound attenuating devices must be applied immediately to
reduce the sound power levels of the unit. Any section of non-treated duct will be potential for breakout noise.
