Duohtavuohta is an exclusive luxury fashion brand located in Finnish Lapland, one of Europe’s last untouched wildernesses where the Arc-tic Circle crosses northern Scandinavia. It is one of the few unspoiled parts of the world. This is where Duohtavuohta was born. The name of the company comes from the old traditional Sàmi language mean-ing “truth”.

We are an ecological luxury brand using only natural sustainable ma-terials. The collection is handmade with the know-how of high quality tailoring. Materials such as pure wool, reindeer leather and natural furs ensure pleasant comfort and a long lifespan.

Design, production, quality control, marketing as well as the show-room are all located in the same building. The team of local talented designers is inspired by traditional costumes and the love for the ever changing overwhelming landscape.

We know the sources of all our suppliers, like various reindeer care-takers in the far north – and only cooperate with partners we person-ally know and trust.

There is no winning combination against blowing winds and be-low zero temperatures but one: natural fur has been used for centuries by mankind to protect against wind, snow and cold.

We only use the wild animals’ fur and only buy furs directly from the local hunters who respect the rules and regulations imposed by the government.

Wild Finnraccoon is living free in the nature. The population is annually limited by the government, to ensure the ecological bal-ance in nature and limiting possible damages to other animals.

The size as well as the color of a wild raccoon varies due to dif-ferent seasons and living environments.

Lapland is the area in northern Europe where the Arctic Circle crosses Scandinavia. It is one of the last unspoiled parts of the world covering nearly 100.000 square kilometers. The size of the reindeer population (200.000 animals) in Finnish Lapland outnumbers the human population.

Lapland has strong seasonal contrasts; cold and dark winters, blinding spring sun, green and rainy summers with midnight sun, colourful autumns that show the nature at it’s best – before it’s time again to prepare for another dramatic winter season. This is a place where water is clearer than glass, where people and animals live free. This is a place where silence can be heard and is still respected.

Here life is pure and simple, here given promises mean more than written words, here people are proud of their work and heritage and here they work with their hands. Here people are one with nature. Here lie the roots of the people behind the Duohtavuohta.

The Duohtavuohta collection is handmade. All our products are manufactured by people who are passionate about their work and skills handed down for generations. Every button is handmade with love, all the pieces are joined together with care and every final product is inspected by the people who made it – just for you.

The creation of a single jacket takes several days from design to the final stitches. Each of them is unique and needs dozens of pieces to be joined together for a perfect fit.

Reindeer LeatherReindeer, also called King of the Tundra, is a wild animal that only lives in Lapland. It lives a free and independent life in herds on the open range in order to survive the annual four dramatic seasons and natural predators of the wild north. The size of the population is con-trolled by the government as well as by mother nature.

The partnership between reindeer and man has been unbreakable for centuries. The Reindeer had made it possible for men to survive in rough terrain and conditions by providing transportation, shelter made from its hide, food from its meat and tools made from its horns. Reindeer and humans have sustained one another over thousands of years.

Nordic reindeer leather is one of the most luxurious and lightest leather in the world. Not only due to its pure texture and softness but also due to its very limited availability. Its irregular texture due to small marks from bugs and mosquitoes adds to its natural beauty and makes it unique.

The King of the Tundra is the pride of the Lappish people who are chosen to take care of them. Sighting a pure white female reindeer is a rare opportunity and is usually seen as a sign of good luck and happiness.
