Transcript of Duisenberg school of finance Recruiter's Guide
Duisenberg school of finance (DSF) has firmly
established itself as an educational institution
which effectively bridges the gap between
industry and academia. As a result, our students
gain a more comprehensive and rigorous
understanding of finance than in any other
traditional Master’s or MBA programme. Through
our emphasis on building ‘thoughtful financial
leadership’, we produce leaders who are
well-rounded experts in finance. Our students
emerge from DSF as honest leaders with a
healthy worldview and a critical, but innovative
approach to finance. Upon graduating, students
are directly ready to make valuable contributions
to their respective employers and to the global
financial market.
DSF highlights:
• World-Class Faculty
• Synergistic Network with Industry and
Academia
• Duisenberg Leadership Programme (DLP)
• Specialised Master’s programmes
• Mandatory Internship
• Financial research
• A dedicated Career Resource Centre (CRC)
Duisenberg school of finance
“From my perspective, the DSF intern
did a superb job in addressing a ques-
tion that is of considerable practical
importance to us, proving himself
adept at understanding the
theoretical literature, handling large
volumes of data and quickly coming
up to speed with the necessary pro-
gramming. He was a pleasure to have
around and was clearly interested in
many of the numerous discussions my
team and I have on risk management
in general.”

Selective Admissions Procedure
Duisenberg school of finance’s admissions
procedure is highly selective. The admissions
committee focuses on knowledge, skills and
attitude when evaluating candidates. Only the
brightest, most motivated and well-rounded
students from around the world are selected.
This selective admissions procedure allows us
to offer an exceptionally talented group of
international students as potential employees.
Synergistic Network with Industry and
Academia
From its inception, Duisenberg school of finance
has closely collaborated with financial institu-
tions and top academic institutions, in order
to develop academic courses that respond to
contemporary financial market demands.
By listening to industry, and with input from
leading academics, DSF has created financial
Master’s programmes that are cutting-edge
and useful for students. Students not only
learn financial theory, but also gain insight into
the real-world application and outcomes of
theoretical principles. This preparation enables
them to perform at the highest level and to
deliver results to employers immediately upon
starting in a position.
Specialised Master’s programmes
Duisenberg school of finance Master’s program-
mes have been designed in collaboration with
leading academic experts and top industry
professionals to tailor to specific industry needs
and to financial market demands. As a result,
each programme delves deeply into a highly
relevant field of finance. The specific areas of
specialisation are: risk management, asset
management, law and finance, and corporate
finance and banking. Students develop core
financial knowledge and specialised expertise
giving them a solid foundation from which to
make valuable contributions to employers.
Duisenberg Leadership Programme
The courses which comprise the compulsory
Duisenberg Leadership Programme (DLP) are
largely unprecedented for Master’s programmes.
In the leadership programme, world-class faculty
tackle such relevant topics as: Professional
Communication Skills, Ethics, Incentives and
Behavioural Finance, Financial Regulation,
Economics of Risk and International Corporate
Governance. Courses go beyond the basics of
the chosen finance specialisation by addressing
pertinent issues in the contemporary financial
market. The DLP prepares students to be respon-
sible financial leaders who can handle leadership
challenges, as well as the theoretical and practical
issues, that regularly arise in the workplace.
Preparing Financial Leaders Today
Students at Duisenberg school of finance are simply exceptional. They are first selected
through a rigorous admissions process and then proceed to develop highly-specialised
knowledge and relevant practical experience in our progressive Master’s degree programmes.
Our students gain global financial knowledge, skills and an attitude that will take them
from the classroom to the boardroom.
Practitioners’ seminars
Since Duisenberg school of finance greatly values
an integrative approach to education, we invite
financial practitioners to the classroom to interact
with students. During the practitioners’ seminars,
students gain experience and insight into
companies’ real financial challenges by working
through scenario-based problems. In the practi-
tioners’ seminars, the ‘real-world’ and academia
are again brought closer together. DSF’s integrative
approach to financial education ensures that
students possess the essential awareness and
skills required to be highly effective from the
start of their financial careers.
Internships
An internship is mandatory for all DSF students.
We believe the combination of practical experience
and academic knowledge is integral to producing
the most capable financial leaders. When DSF
students are matched with a financial institution
or corporation, they get the opportunity to learn
on-the-job and to apply their specialised
knowledge to assignments which greatly benefit
the host company. Students emerge from DSF
ready to transition from the classroom to the
workplace and to deliver significant results.
The quality of Duisenberg school of
finance’s students speaks for itself!
“He performed a high-quality
investigation on ‘Systematic Credit
Risk’. The content of his report was
appreciated by Fortis Bank NL. His
professional attitude and his human
interest made him a beloved
colleague. The best summary we
can give: we offered him a job.”
