Dubbo South Public School Respect, Care, Cooperation & Responsibility
From Sharon’s Desk SASS Week - Thank you to our wonderful School Administration and Support Staff team at school. Our SASS team has 20 Student Learning Support Officers, 4 front office staff, 4 teachers aides in the Support Unit, 2 Aboriginal Education Officers and a very experienced General Assistant, all together doing their special roles as they support students and teachers across the school. We couldn't be without them. A huge thank you for all that you do! The New School Planning cycle is now underway with the school gathering information with our School Situational Analysis. Staff are analysing enrolment, finance, Human Resource, Wellbeing and NAPLAN data to see what areas need to be focused on. The Department have mandated focus areas of reading and numeracy. We collected a lot of data from parents at the end of 2019 with the Tell Them From Me survey and teachers will again be gathering your input when they have teacher/student interviews with you next week. It is important to move forward. We are seeking stake holder input from parents, students and teachers. Think about South and the future you want to see for your children! COVID Updates—I understand how challenging it can be with the new weekly changes. Of course, updates will happen when there are outbreaks etc across areas of our state. The Health Department informs the Department of Education on what changes need to occur. At this time any student who has flu like symptoms MUST have a COVID test and cannot return until a negative result is sighted by the school. Please screenshot your results and send them to the school. Activities on hold for Term 3 are: • Kindergarten Orientation • Year 7 Orientation until Term 4 • School Camps • Excursions • School or community run playgroups • School based activities that involve a large gathering
of adults • Interschool sport, drama and debating.
Our School gates of a morning will not be open until 8.15am each day. I have noticed that children have been entering the school earlier each day. Please understand students are not supervised until 8.30 by an Executive member. Students remain in one space around the canteen area until 9am before they head off to play. It would be appreciated if all students aren't dropped off or travel to school until 8.30am. Parent/Teacher Interviews are now available for you to go online at www.schoolinterviews.com.au and enter the code hz64m to book either a ZOOM meeting or a phone call. Please get on and book your meeting time. If you need any help with the instructions contact the school office for help. The ladies will be happy to talk you through it or book a phone call interview. The site will close 5pm Wednesday 26th August. Have a great week, Sharon Murray, Principal

Teaching and Learning Tales - Mrs Jamee Little - RFF Library Mrs Jamee Little has always loved school. She loved it as a student, and could not wait to return to school as a teacher. “Growing up, I was in awe of my primary school teachers. I couldn’t wait to grow up to be just like them,” Mrs Little said. Born in Dubbo, Mrs Little said she had so many great experiences during her local education. “Schools are wonderful places. As a community and an environment, schools offer so much support and opportunity,” she said. Upon graduating Charles Sturt University’s Bachelor of Education (Primary and Early Childhood) course in Dubbo, Mrs Little commenced her teaching career at Dubbo South Public School in 2012. During this time Mrs Little has had many varied roles, including teaching Stage 2, a consolidation class and a Project Based Learning class. “I have learnt a lot about how students can learn in very different ways,” she said. “Teaching children is a great privilege. I love it when students are excited to learn and are growing in independence to be able to embrace creative and experimental learning opportunities to deepen their understanding.” “It is great when as a teacher you can create a place where all children, no matter how unique, can feel comfortable, safe and able to be their true self when learning.” Since becoming a mother, Jamee has returned to work part-time as an RFF teacher in the library. “I absolutely delight in having the opportunity to read stories to our Kindergarten students. I love watching how excited they get about reading entertaining stories.” “Working at Dubbo South Public brings me a lot of joy.” Student voices: Sophie Johnson, 5 years old – “Mrs Little is great at reading books.” Emma Taylor, 6 years old – “Mrs Little makes reading fun.” Finn Meredith, 6 years old – “Mrs Little helps me to choose great books.” Stuart Arnold, 5 years old – “I liked how Mrs Little read us No Bear Allowed.” Mary Lannix, 5 years old – “Mrs Little is nice.” Hutchie Kotter, 5 years old – “Mrs Little helps me to learn in fun ways.” Zoe Jones, 5 years old – “Mrs Little is always smiling.”
Virtual Reality In 2W We have been using Virtual Reality (VR) programs to discover different countries around the world. These virtual excursions have helped us deepen our knowledge, which we can apply to our MAPPEN unit on Celebrating Differences. On Friday we took an expedition to China seeing some of its amazing landscapes and cities. We saw China from above, then zoomed in closer to see the limestone towers near Guilin. We explored the mountains and lakes of Jiuzhaigou National Park, then visited the Great Wall and the central business district of modern Beijing. This week our class is off to India! Students Voices “It is a good way to learn about countries”- Isaac Smith. “You can learn about different places and not have to go there in person”- Sophie Dashwood. “I learn new things about different countries and I get to control what I look at”- Aurko Choudhury. It was really fun and we learnt more about what we were studying in MAPPEN. It’s better than a YouTube clip because it is more real”- Sage Hulbert

Great to see our students reading. Graphic texts are very popu-lar at the moment. We have a whole shelf dedicated to graphic texts. Have great week. Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

3/4L National Science Week 3/4L took part in a Zoom lesson during National Science Week using Lego WeDo. They initially created a motion sensor fan which led to the next build of creating a sea creature that responded to a motion sensor. This year's theme was 'Deep Blue-Innovations for the future of our oceans'. They were certainly experimenting with an innovation of the future in our ocean and worked over a series of lessons to complete their designs.
