  • Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) Congratulations to Emily Lousick who has completed her reading challenge for 2019. Emily is a consistent borrower who just loves reading.

Borrowing We have some fabulous new books ready for borrowing. Some have already been borrowed during the week. There are only a few Stage 3 students borrowing regularly. Even if students are not attempting the PRC they should still be borrowing on a regular basis and reading daily. Stage 3 students have been enjoying our book study unit this term. So far we have looked at illustrations and characters and how an author conveys messages. This week we studied characters and ideas in books by Bob Graham. We discussed the book “Silver Buttons”. Angus and Cooper enjoying the soft furniture and the book “Rose meets Mr Wintergarten” by Bob Graham.

National Simultaneous Storytime It is estimated that over 1 million children in Australia and New Zealand listened to the story “Alpacas with Maracas” on Wednesday. Some of our classes enjoyed participating in the National Simultaneous story time activity. Kindergarten Purple visited the library for their weekly lesson. They played maracas to different songs and danced around. They then listened to the story being read by Matt Cosgrave (author and illustrator). Enjoy your week! Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

Debating Today the debating team, “The Blue Ollies” went on an excursion to Dubbo West Public School. Our debate topic was “Bullies should not be named at school assemblies”. We were faced with a challenge. We worked hard, tried our best and won. It was tough as it was a very close debate. We had fun. Hannah Segelov and Charlotte Newby

Kindergarten News Growth Mindset Kindergarten word of the week is ‘teamwork’. Teamwork is defined as the combined action of a group. The actions of a group can determine how successful a team will be. If all members of the team have a growth mindset, the team will be more likely to work together as well as to support and celebrate individual’s learning journeys and achievements. Show Excursion Kindergarten students enjoyed a fabulous day out at the Dubbo Show on Friday the 24th of May. It was a beautiful, sunny day to wander around the pavilion and view students artworks, to take in the sights of side show alley and to watch some interesting characters. Students also enjoyed getting up close with the baby animals and even having the opportunity to hold and touch them. All of Kindergarten would like to say a big thankyou to all of our parent helpers on the day and for coming along to join in on the fun with us! Morning Routines Please remember that any student arriving to school before the 9am bell needs to wait at the blue wall/canteen area. This includes any students who are with an adult. We have a number of students who have been waiting in the Kindergarten area. This area is not supervised until the 9am bell goes. Thank you for your support and cooperation in keeping students safe.
