Term 4 28 November 2014

As the year comes to an end, we wish to invite you and all members of our school community to our informal Carols Night to be held on Friday 12 December, on the lawns between the Library and Administration Block. It will be a relaxed atmosphere with students performing and pre-senting carols and entertainment. A BBQ will be available from 7.00pm, with the concert starting at 7.30pm. Please mark this date in your diary and come along and join us in some festive fun.

This week has seen 18 students attend some awesome Belvoir Theatre Workshops. The students were fortunate to have a great tutor who engaged them in all workshops on offer. It was wonderful to see students learning and experiencing more about Theatrical Style. Well done to all participants.

Today Ms Kersley, myself, Mrs Maher and Miss Moreton took 14 students to the Civic Centre to present some en-tertainment for the Mayor’s Seniors Christmas Morning Tea. Year 9 drama students presented a Christmas Skit

and Miss Kersley’s fabulous musos presented a wind en-semble and brass ensemble piece. Well done and thank you Chloe, Hannah, Brooke, Ashwini, Cheyanne, Jenaya, Jennifer, Savannah, Chloe, Jackson, Robin, Tara, Josie, Chloe and Sarah!

I also draw to your attention the “Staging Stories” Con-temporary Aboriginal Theatre playwriting workshop taking place this week at the Fire Station Arts Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for Aboriginal people to tell their sto-ries their way. Funding for the project has been provided by Arts NSW. New voices and perspectives may be un-covered to help enrich Australian Theatre. Who knows where this could lead? Please contact Melissa Ryan (Aboriginal Arts Development Officer for Orana Arts) on 0409 245 020 or email [email protected] for more information.

Cheers Ms Marshall

HEAD TEACHER CAPA

From our Principal’s Desktop …………………. This week sees our examination period complete. All stu-dents have put in a solid effort to complete revision and their exams. As final topics are covered our staff are fo-cussed on finalising the Yearly Reports.

Thank you to all staff and students who contributed to a very successful Year 7 Information Night. From an excel-lent performance from the school band to a range of in-formative speakers the night was well organised and well attended. This has been a great lead in to our final Year 6 to 7 Orientation Day which will be held next Wednesday 3 December.

On Wednesday night I attended an excellent Presentation Night for the Delroy and South Campus Clontarf Acade-mies. Congratulations all of the award winners. The boys have been involved in a wide range of activities which are outlined inside this edition.

On the 10 December Year 7 are off to the Aussie Bush Camp for the annual Tea Gardens excursion. This contin-ues to be a favourite excursion for students so I wish them well. Please support staff by completing all the rele-vant paperwork and completing payments by the due dates.

An Expression of Interest is now available for a Year 10 Excursion to the Gold Coast next year. We do continue to have difficulty in getting large numbers of students to commit to our excursion program. Please plan for the payments and get your deposit in early.

On the sporting field we continue to perform well with our cricket team progressing to the next round and our Clon-tarf ARL team taking out the carnival which they hosted yesterday. We have also had great news in terms of se-

lections with Chloe Ahern selected once again in the Western Cricket team and Jai Merritt selected in the In-digenous All Stars Under 16 team to play on the Gold Coast next year. Well Done!

Year 10 are rapidly approaching their final days at South. This year some key dates have been organised to assist with their transition to Senior Campus. All Year 10 will spend four days at Senior. Commencing on Monday 8 December Year 10 will travel from South Campus during Period 1 and will be returned during Period 6. All students are expected to be a part of these activities until Thursday 11

th December. Following on into the evening a final

dance and activities will be held in the School Hall. To complete the week Year 10 will attend a final Formal As-sembly on Friday 12 December and then move to the back oval for an afternoon of fun activities.

As a part of a busy week the South Campus Presentation Evening will be held on Monday 8 December. Invitations to award winners have been posted.

With our Star Day being held today a number of well-planned days are in place to make the final weeks of school focussed and enjoyable. On Friday 5 December a Formal Assembly will be held to allow for the presentation of prospective School Captain speeches. Our successful Captains will be announced on Presentation Evening.

Our next P&C meeting will now be held on Monday 15 December having been pushed back due to the College Awards Night. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm in the Library.

Have a great week! Darryl Thompson

A group of Year 9 students from our South Campus Clon-

tarf Academy participated in an excursion to Sydney last

week and had the opportunity to meet with students from

Yirara College Alice Springs. The students attended a

dinner sharing stories that would often break into uncon-

trollable laughter.

The students also had the opportunity to visit Luna Park and participate in the many fun activities offered. We are still not sure who was the biggest kid, maybe Charlie may take out this title.

Every Monday mornings the Year 9 South Dubbo Clontarf

Academy Students head over to South Dubbo Public

School to interact with Year 6 who will be attending South

Campus in 2015. We are endeavouring to build relation-

ships and connections with our South Campus Clontaf

Students and staff. Our boys are very keen to get to

know the Primary Students and will take on a mentoring

role in 2015.

Tristan Delany and Blaine Gordon

Dubbo College South Campus Clontarf Academy Stu-dents participated in the annual cricket carnival in Wagga Wagga recently. The students had a great time putting into practice the skills that they have been honing in train-ing sessions. The students didn’t come home with the win however did show great spirit and sportsmanship sharing many laughs.

While most cele-brations go off without a hitch, they can go wrong and get out of hand – particularly if the party is unplanned. Here are some tips to help ensure your teenager and their friends have fun but remain safe.

When asked for her occupa-tion, a woman charged with a traffic violation said she

was a schoolteacher. The judge rose from the

bench. "Madam, I have wait-ed years for a schoolteacher to appear before this court." He smiled. "Now, sit down at

that table and write

500 times, 'I will not

pass through a red light."
