DUBAI PULSE 2016
One year has passed on the implementation of Dubai Plan 2021, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, as a blueprint for the emirate to achieve happiness and prosperity for all.
By 2021, Dubai will be home to happy, creative, and empowered people, living in an inclusive and cohesive society that caters to all. It will be a smart and sustainable city that is the preferred place to live, work and visit, and a pivotal hub in the global economy, led by a pioneering and excellent government.
To achieve this, government entities have collaborated over the past year to drive improvements in the results of key performance indicators linked to Dubai’s vision and aims. These efforts have been praised by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of
the Dubai Executive Council, emphasizing that it is a testament to the high level of confidence our community has in the government, and underlining the importance of engaging every one, as each individual in Dubai - whether a man or a woman, a father or a mother, a child or a youth, a leader or an employee, a teacher or a student, an engineer or a doctor – can contribute to building the emirate’s future.
This short brief highlights Dubai’s progress against the priorities set in Dubai Plan 2021. The story is narrated by an Emirati girl named “Hind” who describes a normal day in her life in Dubai. Every scene in “Hind’s” story highlights a role each one of us must play to achieve Dubai Plan 2021.

Good morning Dubai! My name is Hind, I am 10 years old. I’m here to tell you about a day in my life. Every morning, at 6 o’clock, mom wakes
us up to get ready to go to school. I am good at getting ready on my own, but it takes my brother Abdulla ages to finish his breakfast. That’s Khalfan, my baby brother. He stays at home with grandma and nanny. He’s far too young to go to school.

It’s fun driving to school together, but sometimes there’s so much traffic we are late and I miss morning assembly. I don’t like being late.
Dad says there’s traffic jam because not so many people use the public transport like the bus or the metro.

I like my school but it doesn’t have the latest technology like my friend Hessa’s school. Dad says hopefully one day, I will move to a really
good school, just like Hessa, and that will help me go to a really good college when I’m older.

We take the bus back home because both mom and dad are busy at work.
It takes ages to reach home because the bus driver stops at all the zebra crossings.

At noon we always go out for a walk around the neighbourhood. Grandma says most people don’t appreciate the benefits of a good walk.
Especially people like our neighbour, Jamal, who sits outside all day smoking. He has a very big belly.

I am very happy, because I will see my uncle Mohammed, who is studying in London. We will greet him at Dubai Airport,
my favorite airport. It’s always crowded and has lots of things to see, it’s just like a city!

It’s bedtime now. Abdulla and I say goodnight, but before we go off to bed we read a book.
I wish dad would read to us like Lina’s dad, but I know dad is tired after a long day at work.
Before sleeping, we also talk about the things that we are grateful for;
I am grateful to live in a nice and safe country, where everyone is respected.
