Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of

the pious and good actions.

بحال منيح اسئ لكحبكوحب عملي ب ل غنحبكلهمان كوحب

O Allah! I ask of You the love of those that love You and the

love of those actions which will convey me to Your love.

All these things are Maqaasid (objectives). To possess the love of Allah is an object. To love

those that possess the love of Allah is an object, and to love those actions that convey one

close to Allah is also an object. Allama Sayyid Sulaiman Nadwi says that there is a

connection with regard to the sequence in which this Dua was taught to us by which we

request the love of Allah, then the love of the man and finally those actions and practices that

take one closer to Allah . This is the manner in which Rasulullah had supplicated.

Rasulullah had supplicated for the love of those that love Allah . Why? When a person

gets their love then he gets connected on both sides (i.e.to Allah and the those actions that

take a person to Allah ). Acquiring the love of the men of Allah is easy whereas acquiring the

love of Allah directly is not within the means of every individual. It is also difficult for a

person to acquire the love of A’maal through his own initiative and knowledge.

Consequently we see that once a person makes connection with Ahlullah (the friends of Allah

) and acquires their love, then soon he gets the love of Allah . This is something that is

witnessed all the time.

Foreword

Indeed the demise of Sheikh-ul-Arab Wal Ajam Hadrat Maulana

Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb was a great loss not only to the

people of Pakistan or the Indian subcontinent or his Khalifas,

mureeds and associates but the demise of Hadrat was a loss to

the entire Muslim Ummah at large. It is correctly stated that the

death of an Alim is (equated to) the death of the universe. Perhaps

such a personality can never be replaced. May Allah fill Hadrat’s

Qabr with Noor and grant Hadrat the highest stages in Jannat.

In South Africa, we had received the news of Hadrat’s demise

between the Asr and Maghrib Salaah on the 23rd of Rajab 1434

corresponding with the 12th of June 2013. Hadrat Maulana Abdul

Hamid Saheb Daamat Barakaatuhum had undertaken a journey to

Cape Town during this period conducting his Islaahi Majalis and

propagating the love of Allah which is the mission of Hadrat’s life.

After Maghrib Salaah Hadrat had conducted a Majlis at Masjid-Al-

Miftaah in Lentergeur and discussed the status of the Abraar (the

pious servants) and the status of Hadrat Shah Hakim Muhammad

Akhtar Saheb which is contained in this booklet. May Allah

grant us the Taufeeq to follow the teachings of Hadrat which are

still with us and this is what brings pleasure to them in their graves.

Ameen!

A great sorrow Before starting our talk proper, as per the command of our

honourable Sheikh, Aarif Billah, Rumi of the time, Mujaddid of the

era, the second Tabrez, Hadrat Maulana Shah Hakim Muhammad

Akhtar Saheb , we will discuss one Sunnat. Today we have to say

Rahmatullahi Alaihi, as we have received news a short while age that

our Sheikh has passed away.

Hadrat has advised us to discuss one Sunnat of Rasulullah prior to

every Bayaan. One great Sunnah is to make Isaal-e-Thawaab (i.e. to

transfer the rewards of our good deeds to the deceased). We should

all recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice and pass the rewards over to our

Sheikh and all the Marhoomeen (i.e. the deceased). This should

be done whenever we receive the news of someone’s death.

What can be a greater sorrow for the entire Ummat than the fact

that a great Alim and righteous person, who has connected

thousands of people to Allah has passed away. It is a means of

great sorrow especially for those that were connected with Hadrat.

For us, it is as though our father has left us and we feel the

emptiness that an orphan child experiences. However, Allah

mentions in the Quraan Sharif,

وإن اإليهراجعون لل هممحصيبةقالواإن الذينإذاأصاب ت (Those who exercise sabr are) those who, when any difficulty befalls

them (then instead of complaining), they say, ‘Verily we belong to

Allaah (and He therefore has the right to treat us as He pleases) and

to Him shall we return (after death, when He will reward us for our

sabr).

مورحةوأول ئكهمالمهتدون أول ئكعليهمصلواتم نرب These (people who are patient in difficulties and who abstain from

ingratitude) are the ones on whom the combined and special

mercies (bounties) of Allaah descend and who are rightly guided.

In this verse of the Quraan Sharif there is great consolation for a

person. This reality and fact must dawn upon us that we all belong

to Allah and we are all going to return to Him. If not today, then

tomorrow or the day after, but one day we will all have to return to

Allah . When a person follows the directive and recites the Dua

mentioned in the verse then the mercy of Allah is reserved for such

people. In the above verse the term “Salawaat” refers to Rahmat-e-

Khaassa which means that Allah’s special mercies are showered

upon them, and the term “Warahma” refers to Allah ’s general or

universal mercy that will be showered upon them.

Putting up tantrums is not our way

Those that realise this won’t put up big tantrums, go around wailing

and crying, but they will accept this as the command of Allah .

Another glad tiding for these people is that Allah says that these

people are rightly guided. On such occasions we should engage

ourselves more in Isaal-e-Thawaab and Dua-e-Maghfirat for the

Marhoomeen.

On one occasion Sheikul-Hadith Hadrat Maulana Muhammad

Zakariyya Saheb was on his way to Hijaaz-e-Muqaddas (i.e.

Makkah Mukarrama and Madinah Munawwarah) when he spent a

few days en route in Bombay. On the third day whilst in Bombay he

gathered all his Khulafa and close associates and informed them that

Page 10: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 6

he has completed three Khatms of the Quraan Sharif in the past

three days and passed the rewards over to the deceased in Bombay.

He then said, “Whichever town I go to, I make one Khatm of the

Quraan and pass the rewards over to the Marhoomeen of that

town. I advise you people to do the same.” It is mentioned in the

Hadith Sharif that whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas thrice gets the

reward of having recited the entire Quraan. Therefore, we should

make it a practice to recite the Masnoon Duas when entering a

town. Thereafter, one should recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice due to

which one will get the reward of reciting the entire Quraan Sharif,

which should be passed over to the Marhoomeen of that town.

Indeed this will be a cause of goodness for them and for us as well, it

will also be a cause of goodness in that town. Allah will make our

stay or passing through the town blessed and comfortable. This act

will also have an effect on the people residing in that town whereby

they will love us.

The amal of reciting the Kalimah 70 000 times

The rewards of the good deeds which we pass to the deceased

reaches them immediately and they are all well aware of who sent

the rewards to them as well. Sheikh Muhiyyud-Deen Ibn Arabi

was a great Sheikh who resided in Andalus (Spain). On one occasion

he had invited some people for meals. Amongst the guest was a

young boy as well who claimed to be Sahib-e-Kashf (i.e. certain

things are exposed to them which are concealed from others). This

is not really a thing of piety. This is actually Karamat (a supernatural

act). The literal meaning of karamat is respect and honour which

Allah bestows upon someone. To be able to carry out some

Karaamat is not sought from one in Shariah. If someone is bestowed

Page 11: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 7

with such a gift, then well and good. It is a favour from the side of

Allah . There were various people that were favoured with Kashf

such as Imaam Abu Hanifa .

When Imaam Abu Hanifa would come to the Masjid, he was able

to see the condition of the people and the condition in which a

person will be raised on the day of Qiyaamah. For example, a person

that possesses the quality of greed will be raised in the form of a

dog on the day of Qiyaamah. A extremely foolish person will be

raised in the form of a donkey on the day of Qiyaamah etc. Finally,

Imaam Abu Hanifa made Dua to Allah to remove this ability

from him as he did not want to be informed of the faults of people.

In spite of being blessed with such abilities they made Dua to Allah

to remove them. So Kashf and Karaamat are not regarded as

something great nor are they the objective. Anyway, it was famous

that this boy was Sahib-e-Kashf. Whilst having meals the young boy

yelled out aloud. The Sheikh asked him, “What is wrong?” He

replied, “I see my mother burning in the fire of Jahannam.” The

Sheikh had several quotas of Kalimah Tayyiba stored (that is he had

completed recitation of Kalimah Tayyiba seventy thousand times on

several occasions). It is mentioned in the Hadith Sharif,

منقالالالهاالهللاسبعنيالفمرةغفرملنقالوملنقيل

Whoever recites الالهاالهللا seventy thousand times then the reciter is

forgiven and the person for whom it is recited.

So the Sheikh immediately conveyed one quota of seventy thousand

to the boy’s mother without any movement or change of facial

Page 12: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 8

expressions. This caused the boy to smile. The Sheikh then asked

him, “Whats the matter now?” He replied, “I now see my mother in

the gardens of Jannat.” The Sheikh says, “From this incident I learnt

that the Hadith is authentic and I had also learnt that the boy’s claim

of being Sahib-e-Kashf is also genuine. Also one point that we learn

from here is that the Isaal-e-Thawaab that we make on behalf of the

Marhoomeen reaches them immediately, so much so that it is faster

than an online transfer as well. The Sheikh made an intention in his

heart and the rewards were transferred without having to load it

onto some computer programme and it reached the deceased

person that was intended, who transferred her from Jahannam to

Jannat immediately.

We should try always to remember the deceased in our Duas, and

recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice daily which is quite easy to do. Obviously,

we can do much more but this is the bare minimum we can do for

our parents, family members, the people of our town etc. The

rewards of these actions can be passed onto the living as well.

However, the deceased really appreciate the rewards which the

living people send for them.

We make Dua that Allah grant our Sheikh and all the

Marhoomeen the loftiest stages in Jannat. May Allah forgive

them for any shortcomings, and grant them Hadheeratul Quds

which is a special place in Jannat. May Allah keep them with

comfort and well, with respect and honour. These Duas should be

made regularly.

Seeking assistance through Sabr and Salaah

The second thing that we are commanded to do is to seek assistance

through Sabr and Salaah. There are different forms of Sabr. If one

has a financial problem then the Sabr required from him is different

to the Sabr required from one that has a health problem. On this

occasion when somebody close and dear has departed from the

world, a person that has been a Muhsin (well-wisher) by showering

so many favours upon you and shown you the path to Allah , how

much don’t you appreciate it and make Dua for them. When a

person passes away, he is in need of Isaal-e-Thawaab irrespective of

how much of good one has to his credit. The deceased always want

to have more to their credit. This is similar to things of the world. No

matter how much a person has accumulated, he always wants more.

Rasulullah is reported to have said,

وبهعنالزهريعنأنسبنمالكأنرسولهللاقاللوأنالبنآدموادايمنذهبألحبأنيكونلهوادآخروالميألفاهإالالرتابويتوبهللاعلىمناتب)طربان(

If the son of Adam had a valley of gold, he will love to have a second

valley of gold, his stomach will not be filled except with the sand (of

the Qabr), and Allah will forgive that person that repents (for his

sins).

Similarly, a person is always desirous to have more good deeds to

his credit. Our rewards will not diminish in the least bit by us passing

the rewards over to the deceased. We will also attain the reward

and they will also gain the rewards. In the verse of the Quraan Sharif

Page 14: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 10

wherein Allah states, “O people of Imaan, Seek assistance

through Sabr and Salaah”, the word Salaah literally means that that

one should make Dua. The technical meaning of Salaah is to perform

Salaah physically (as we do daily). If it is not the Makrooh times of

Salaah, then we should perform Salaah for the deceased, make Dua

for them and exercise patience. We should not say anything that is

inappropriate whilst in a state of sorrow and sadness. One should

not exceed the limits, but remain within the borders of Imaan. We

should bear in mind that this is the system of Allah which reigns

supreme above all other systems. The height of servitude is that we

are pleased with the decision of Allah at all times which is termed

as Radha Bil Qadha. We praise the Almighty Allah in all condition by

saying “Alhamdulillahi Ala Kulli Haal.”

There is always good in the decision of Allah

Once our Sheikh was residing in Lenasia at the residence of

Maulana Hussein Bhayat Saheb and someone was murdered in

Lenasia. Hadrat said, “The manner in which death approaches a

person is the best.” Allah’s wisdom is above everything, which is

something we cannot comprehend. To understand this point there is

a certain incident which is quoted, There was a king that loved

hunting. On one occasion he went out hunting with his favourite

minister. The minister had a habit of saying, “Whatever Allah

does is for the best.” As they started their journey the king cut his

thumb, which was quite painful. The minister said, “Whatever Allah

does is for the best.” So, the king became very upset and said,

“I’m in such severe pain yet you are saying that it is for the best.”

The king ordered that the minister should be imprisoned for a

Page 15: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 11

period of three days. The minister again said, “Whatever Allah

does is for the best.” The minister was put in prison and the king

continued with his hunting spree. He travelled beyond the borders

of his country and reached a country with cannibals (human eaters).

These cannibals got hold of the king and intended to eat him alive.

However, their prey had to meet certain standards so that it can be

used just as the Qurbani animal has to meet certain standards in

order for it to be valid for Qurbani. When they checked the king they

found that he was not fit for consumption as he does not meet their

standards, due to having a cut. Now the king understood that

whatever Allah does is for the best. The cut on his hand will heal

in a few weeks or even in a few months and the scar on his hand will

also disappear but he would have been eaten alive had he not have

a cut.

When he returned home he released the minister from prison with

great honour and respect. He explained to the minister that he has

understood the benefit of the cut as the cannibals would have eaten

him alive had he not have a cut. He asked the minister, “Was there

any good in sending you to jail?” You stated that whatever Allah

does is the best when you were sent to jail. The minister said, “We

are always together and never separate from each other, if I had

been with you the cannibals would have caught me too and

consumed me as I do not have any scars or cuts on my body. By

spending these few days in prison, my life was saved. Many times

we do not understand that whatever Allah does is for the best.

Many people are poor but poverty is good for these people as these

people are such by nature that they would have got involved in

Page 16: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 12

various wrongs and sin if they had money. For many people,

sickness is a bounty, if they had enjoyed good health they would

have used it for wrong things, so Allah knows what is best. It is a

sign of wisdom and height of Imaan for a servant to be content with

Allah’s decree. We make our efforts such as seeking cure if we are

ill, seek means to get out of our financial problems, but the greatest

thing is to be happy with the decision of Allah. We would love our

Sheikh to be with us but Allah knows best.

The demise of Hadrat Maulana Fakhrud Deen

Saheb

When the Sheikh-ul-Hadith of Deoband Hadrat Maulana Fakhrud-

Deen Saheb (who had taught Bukhari for forty years) had passed

away, the principal of Darul Uloom Deoband had delivered a lecture.

In his lecture he explained that we do not understand but the

passing away of such senior people is the mercy of Allah . He

explained, if Rasulullah did not leave the world, then people

would not have known the status of Abu Bakr , who became the

first Khalifah after Rasulullah . If Sayyidina Abu Bakr never

passed away, the people would have never known who Hadrat

Umar was. His qualities became known to the world when Abu

Bakr left the world.

Hadrat Maulana Ashraf Ali says that we all desire that our

parents, our Asaathiza , great people must not die. If our parents

were still living, they would have wished that their parents would

not have died, so their parents would have also been living. In turn

they would have wished that their parents would not die and if their

parents were still living there should be no place for us on earth. The

Page 17: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 13

world would have been so full. As we grow older it becomes difficult

to control one’s urine. One person took his father who was

approximately eighty two or eighty four years old to the doctor. The

doctor asked, “What is your father’s name?” He said, “GTQ 82 84.”

The doctor said, I’m not asking for the registration number of your

father’s truck. I’m asking for his name.” He said, “That is his name.”

So the doctor asked, “what do you mean by that?” He explained that

GTQ means going to Qabr and his eighty two or eighty four years

old. The doctor then asked, “What is the problem with your father?”

The son replied, “His radiator is leaking.” Once again the doctor said,

“I’m not asking about the truck, I’m asking about your father.” The

son replied, “I’m also not telling you about the truck but I’m telling

you about my father.” His radiator is leaking. Then he asked, “What

other problem does he have?” He said, “His ball bearings are worn

out. When he walked out he couldn’t walk straight. The doctor

asked, “Is there any other problem?” The son said, “His exhaust is

also gone.” What would have happened if all the elderly were still

living? Some would have been 150 years old, others 200 years old,

others 2000 years old. It is the mercy of Allah that He takes away

the elderly people at a certain destined time. As we go along we will

try and explain that Allah has given us our time to prepare for

death. If we had prepared for death, we will experience great

pleasure and enjoyment. We won’t be sorrowful to leave. If we

understand this reality then rather than being sad we will be pleased

at the demise of such people.

Demise of Hadrat Abbas

When Hadrat Abbas (the uncle of Rasulullah ) had passed away,

people were naturally filled with grief and sorrow. One Bedouin had

Page 18: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 14

come to Ibn Abbas and consoled to such an extent that Ibn Abbas

explains that nobody granted me solace like this Bedouin. He said,

“Has your father passed away?” I replied, “Yes, my father has passed

away.” He then asked, “Has he gone to Allah ?” I replied, “Yes, He

has gone to Allah .” The Bedouin then asked, “Are you able to take

care of him in a better way or will Allah take care of him in a

better way?” The son said, “Allah will take care of him in a better

way as He is “Ni’mal Mawla Wa Ni’mal Wakeel.” (the best of

protectors and guardians). What a great Allah do we have that takes

care of His Amaanat so well. He said, “So he’s gone to Allah and

nobody can look after him as Allah will look after him.

He said, “Why are you then sorrowful?” Allah will take care of

him a billion times better than you. He is enjoying the bounties of

jannat which you were unable to give him. This brought great relief

and comfort to Ibn Abbas . We are convinced that Hadrat is gone

to a place of great pleasure and enjoyment. This is what we feel in

our heart but Allah knows best. We feel this way as we saw the

person’s life.

We have not been sent to this world to build mansions, big houses,

have big cars, acquire big investments, and big properties. We are

here to make our investments of the Aakhirah and build our

mansions in Jannat. We are here to beautify our gardens of Jannat.

It is inevitable that death will approach every person. If one has

prepared for death then the Rooh will be anxious to leave the body

and meet Allah . The Rooh of a Mu’min is similar to a bird in a

cage. When you open the cage door the bird doesn’t go and hide in

Page 19: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 15

a corner refusing to leave. It tries to fly out as soon as it can as it

wants freedom of the world.

The world is nothing in comparison to the

hereafter

Similarly, the entire world altogether is smaller than the smallest

cage also. How small is the womb of the mother? If it was possible

to communicate with the child and inform the child that you are in a

small prison but eventually you will come into the world where

aeroplanes fly, trains, busses, ships and trucks move, the child will

not be able to comprehend as he is unable to stretch his hands and

feet whilst in the womb of the mother. Finally the child enters the

world after passing a narrow passage. The child passes through this

passage with great difficulty. It could be a matter of life and death

for the mother. When this child comes into the world, it will be

prepared to believe in not just aeroplanes or ships but in thousands

of aeroplanes and ships.

By Allah, this world is even smaller and narrower than the womb of

the mother. When we will reach the Aakhirah after passing the life

of the Qabr which is also a narrow passage, our minds will be

boggled due to the vastness of the world. Jannat will be so vast that

we cannot imagine. May Allah grant us and all the Muslims

Jannat. Ameen! May Allah protect us from Jahannam, the

vastness of which is explained in the Quraan. In the manner the

Quraan Sharif has explained Jahannam, one can understand the

eloquence of the Quraan Sharif. There were a number of non-

Muslim professors in Germany who were proficient in the Arabic

language. They questioned Sheikh Thantawi of Eygpt, “Do you also

Page 20: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 16

believe that the Quraan is a great literary KItaab with such great

literary value?” He said, “Of course, this is our Aqeedah rather our

conviction.” We know with certainty that it is such a Kitaab. You

people don’t believe it as you are non-Muslims, but you do know

Arabic and you do know the great literary power of the language,

therefore you should explain to me something that is vast and huge.

So they tried doing so by constructing various sentences such as “It

is big like the distance between the east and west” or “it is million

times bigger” or similar phrases which we normally use. He then told

them, “Let me explain to you the manner in which the Quraan Sharif

explains the vastness of something.” On the day of Qiyaamah when

Jahannam will be filled with all its occupants and all those that have

been destined for Jahannam have entered Jahannam, then

Jahannam will ask,

ي ومن قوللهنمهلامتألتوت قولهلمنمزيدOn the day (of Qiyaamah) We shall ask Jahannam, “Are you full?”

and she will reply, “Are there any more (to come because I still have plenty of room) ?”

They were really astounded at the manner the Quraan Sharif has

explained the vastness of Jahannam. Inspite of Jahannam being

filled it will still ask if there are any more people remaining that may

fill Jahannam which shows that there is room still remaining. The

phrases which we use show vastness but cannot show intense

vastness as described about Jahannam.

Anyway, Allah has sent us in this world to prepare for the

Aakhirah, and fortunate are those people that spend their time

wisely in the world. I usually say that if a person passes away at the

age of eighteen or twenty eight years but has made his Aakhirat is

one hundred percent successful and will enter into Jannat. We may

say, Aah! The poor man! What did he see of life? He had died at

such a young age. On the other hand a person lived for eighty years

but didn’t make his Aakhirat, then he has wasted his time. He may

have accumulated many properties, lived it up in this world, but if

he didn’t prepare for his Aakhirat then it is a total failure and

destruction.

There were those pious Buzrugaan-e-Deen and pious people when

asked their age would reply by saying that their age is two or ten

years old whereas they were eighty or ninety years old. What they

had actually meant was that only that part of our life which was

used to prepare for the Aakhirat, is worth calling life. That part of

our life that was wasted and utilised in sin cannot be counted as part

of our life. Our Hadrat ’s one beautiful poem is, “The sum total of

our life is the time spent in the company of your pious servants. That

is the portion of our life where we had learnt how to live and how to

die by spending t at the threshold of your pious servants.” This is the

actual objective of our existence in this world and not to live it up.

Our Sheikh used to say, “A person who wants to pass his time,

does not pass his time but actually fails time.” We cannot afford to

pass time as life is so short. Our eternal life is life of the Aakhirat

which we have to continuously prepare for. A single Ramdaan is

extremely valuable. How can we ever pass time in the month of

Ramdaan when every moment has such great value. The day of

Jumuah is also an extremely valuable day. May Allah grant us the

realisation of the value of the day of Jumuah. We cannot afford to

Page 22: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 18

waste time on the day of Jumuah. When we acquire this realisation

then it will become easy for us to value every day of the week and

every moment. We will not have any time to spend in entertainment

as we have been sent to prepare for that everlasting life of the

Aakhirah, therefore we should utilise our energies in the appropriate

manner.

Demise of our Sheikh

At approximately five o’ clock we had received news that our Sheikh

had left the world. In Maghrib Salaah the verses that I had recited in

the beginning crossed my mind wherein Allah states,

إناألب رارلفينعيمIndeed the righteous (Mu'mineen) shall be immersed in bounties

(in Jannah)… I really felt that Allah had blessed our Sheikh with that position,

which is the position of the Abraar. Who are the Abraar? The well-

known scholar and researcher of Hadith Mullah Ali Qari who is

the commentator of Mishkaat Sharif and other Kitaabs has explained the definition of Abraar.

والي رضونالشر الذينالي ؤذونالذرThose who do not even harm an ant and cannot tolerate evil’

The name of Hadrat ’s Sheikh was also Abraar (Hadrat Maulana

Abrar-ul-Haq Saheb ). He was also Abraar and had the name

Abraar as well which is termed as Ism-Ba-Musamma. Once Hadrat Maulana was busy making Wudhu when he realised that there were ants around him. He feared that they would drown so he stood up and chose another location to perform Wudhu. On reaching the second location he realised that there were plenty of ants there as

Page 23: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 19

well, so he moved to a third location and completed his Wudhu. These are the Abraar who do not even harm or cause any form of inconvenience to even ants. On the other hand we would say, “Pour water and let them die”, but the Abraar considers every creation of Allah .

Hadrat Maulana Maseehullah who was an outstanding Khalifa of

Hadrat Thanwi was once visiting our country. He was residing in

Laudium (Pretoria) and was hosted by a well known person named Abramjee who was a politician and is still residing there. He is a wealthy person owning a huge mansion as well. He had prepared a beautiful bedroom for Hadrat with all the comforts that you can think of. After supper, Hadrat was directed to his room and left to

rest. In the morning they found Hadrat sleeping on the floor which meant that he had spent the entire night sleeping on the floor. They questioned Hadrat, “What a comfortable bed we had prepared for you and you had undergone great difficulty, and slept on the floor?” Hadrat said, “When I had entered the room, I had found the cat sleeping comfortably on the bed so I thought to myself that what right do I have to disturb the cat. You have a seven shield carpet which is more than comfortable so I enjoyed a good nights sleep on the carpet. Now, these are the Abraar. Had it been one of us, we would have kicked the cat and asked, “Is the bed for me or for you?”

Hadrat Maulana Maseehullah used to reside in Jalalabad in India

which was his permanent residence. After the Asr Salaah, they were once returning to the Khanqah during the rainy season when there are pools of water all over. Whilst proceeding to the Khanqah, they had found ducks playing in the pools of water, so Hadratjee took

a longer route to the Khanqah. Upon reaching the Khanqah he asked his friends, “Do you know why I had taken this long cut?” They replied in the negative. He said, “As we were coming, I saw the ducks playing in the water, had we passed by them it would have caused them to run away and I did not want to disturb them.”

Maulana Mia Asghar Hussein Saheb

Another diamond with outstanding qualities was Hadrat Maulana Mia Asghar Hussein Saheb , who was a senior Khalifa of Hadrat

Maulana Thanvi . He was a man of great qualities. We had studied

under his illustrious son in Darul Uloom Deoband but we did not have the opportunity to meet him. During the months of winter, Esha Salaah is generally early, which is the norm in our country as well. During these months people generally retire early to bed unlike the people that live in the cities and enjoy the city life. In places like Cape Town, the day only commences at night. Hadrat used to

recite his Wazaaif, Duas, Ma’moolat, Aayatul Kursi, etc. for quite a while in the Masjid after the Esha Salaah. Thereafter he would return home. By then it would be quiet late, and the streets would be quiet. To reach home, Hadrat would have to pass by the home of a lady who used to sell herself. She had reached old age but would still adorn herself and wait for clients. On approaching her home, Hadrat would remove his shoes and pass by her home barefooted. On reaching the other side of her house he would put on his shoes and continue. Somebody asked Hadrat, “Why do you remove your shoes?” He replied, “On hearing my footsteps she will think that a customer is approaching and her hopes will be rasied, but when I pass by the house her hopes will be shattered and she will blame her old age for not being able to attract any customers.” So, the Abraar are those that do not even inconvenience the sinners.

Mufti Shafi Saheb

Another diamond was Hadrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi Saheb who

was a senior Khalifa of Hadrat Thanwi . Whilst studying in

Deoband, he would visit Hadrat Maulana Mia Asghar Hussein Saheb . During the mango season they were eating mangoes. Maulana

Mia Asghar Hussein Saheb used to receive mangoes as gifts from

Page 25: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 21

people therefore they had eaten quite a number of mangoes.

Hadrat Mufti Shafi Saheb asked his Ustaad after the meal,

“Should I dispose the peels?” The Ustaad asked, “Do you know how to get rid of these peels?” Hadrat Mufti Saheb asked, “Do you need a PHD in order to learn how to get rid of the peels?” The Ustaad replied in the affirmative. He then explained that there are many underprivileged people living around us. You will throw these peels on the pavement which will later be removed by the municipal workers. They didn’t have any garbage bins as we have in our country, so if the poor were to see so many peels lying on the ground they will feel that we hardly enjoyed a single mango, yet these people had the privilege of enjoying so many mangoes. How did they consider the feelings of the poor people?

On another occasion Hadrat Mufti Shafi Saheb had meals with

the same Ustaad and expressed his desire to get rid of the dirt (such as the peels) after the meals. Again, the Ustaad asked him, “Do you know how to dispose of the dirt?” He asked, “Does one have to learn how to get rid of the dirt?” The Ustaad then explained that the bones should be given to the dogs and cats that generally gather at a certain place. The bread crumbs can be given to the ants which are generally found in a certain area. The fruit peels should be given to the goats. By doing so, we have been taught how to recycle without being educated by the worldly people. This is how we should dispose of the dirt after having our meals rather than just throwing everything in the bin. The various animals are all the creation of

Allah and are entitled to share our food as well. The Abraar are

such that they cannot tolerate things being done incorrectly.

Giving up sin due to fear

Hadrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi says that giving up sin due to

fear is no distinction. If a stick is shown to a dog, then the dog will

Page 26: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 22

run away. On the other hand, if you show a piece of meat to the

dog, it will return. We should give up sins in the love of Allah as

Allah has been so kind to us. He has given us our existence,

minds, etc. free of charge. If we spoiled our hearts, with our unhealthy eating and living habits then we are to blame. Allah

had given us perfect lungs, kidneys, brains, a perfect heart, etc. How

can we ever disobey Allah ? Hadrat Yusuf had the opportunity

to be alone with a beautiful woman like Zuleikha, who had made the environment conducive and then invited him. We would have said, “enjoy with her”, but he did not look at it as enjoyment. He regarded the situation to be worse than hell fire. Yusuf responded by saying,

أحسنمث واي إنهرب قالمعاذالل He said, “I seek refuge with Allaah! Indeed my caretaker (your

husband/Allaah) has treated me honourably (how can I ever betray him by doing what you ask of me).

These are really the Abraar who are never pleased with evil and the

disobedience of Allah

Coming back to the verse, Allah says,

إناألب رارلفينعيمIndeed the righteous (Mu'mineen) shall be immersed in bounties

(in Jannah)…

We have found our Sheikh to be amongst the Abraar. For

approximately twenty five years I’ve been in the company of my

Sheikh and we have seen him in various conditions, whilst travelling,

or at home, etc. I have observed how conscious he was of the

Page 27: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 23

commands of Allah . In Madinah Munawwarah, a person had

presented Hadrat with a Jubbah. Usually these Jubbas are quite

long. Rasulullah has issued stern warnings regarding a person

that wears his garment below the ankles.

عنأبهريرةعنالنيب}صلىهللاعليهوسلم{قالماأسفلمنالكعبنيمناإلزار ففيالنار

Abu Hurairah reports from Rasulullah that the messenger of

Allah has said, the portion of the pants that is lower than the

ankles will be in the fire of Jahannam.

Hadrat had sent the pants for alteration immediately. After

alterations, he once again tried it on and found it to be hanging

below the ankles. He became angry and said, “Take it off

immediately. If my death has to approach now in the condition of

sin, what will my position be?” How many of us are continuously

involved in sin? We dress like the Kuffar, our beards are not

according to Shariah due to which a person is in perpetual sin. Such

a person is in sin on the plains of Mina, Arafaat, and even whilst a

person is performing Salaah. On the other hand the Abraar are those

that cannot tolerate sin for a single moment. Our Sheikh would

reprimand his own children, grandchildren and even great

grandchildren whether they were five years old if their pants were

hanging below the ankles.

Page 28: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Remaining conscious of Deen

Once Hadrat was having breakfast at Mufti Hussein Bhayat ’s

residence in Lenasia at approximately nine or ten o’ clock in the

morning when I had visited him. He was having breakfast alone in

the room so he told me to join him. I sat down without thinking of

washing my hands. Hadrat immediately said, “Bring water and let

Maulana wash his hands.” How concerned were they of these finer

points? These are the Abraar and what hasn’t Allah prepared for

them. That is your final abode, where a person will live forever. The

worldly life will definitely come to an end. In the Quraan Sharif, Allah

says that these Abraar will be immersed in bounties. When Allah

mentions bounties and enjoyment, can we imagine what type of

bounties and enjoyments will they be? If a poor man says to you,

“Come to my house and I will make you absolutely comfortable,

then according to his standards he will provide great comfort. If a

rich man invites you then his hospitality will be according to his

means.

To digress a little from the topic, Maulana Hussein Bhayat Saheb

was a friend of one person from Afghanistan who was appointed as

the minister in parliament during the Taliban rule. He was Maulana’s

friend so he told Maulana that the government has given him a huge

comfortable house so he should come and visit. When Maulana

Hussein Saheb reached Afghanistan, this person came to receive

Maulana and thereafter took Maulana to his place. Maulana Hussein

Saheb found the place to be a small flat, so he asked him, “Do

you call this a mansion?” He replied, “No! actually the government

did give me a huge mansion to live in, but a certain person made a

Page 29: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 25

claim against me, and claimed that the house had belonged to her.

The previous government had wrongly taken it away from her and

she had the relevant evidence for her claim.” There wasn’t any need

for a court case which would last weeks and months. The necessary

evidence was presented and the building was returned to her. The

government has now given me this flat on a temporary basis. This

was the type of justice that prevailed under Taliban rule. Many

people say that women were dealt with in a unjust manner but this

is totally false propaganda, as women were treated with great

respect and honour.

When Allah says that the pious will be in great bounty and

enjoyment, our minds cannot fathom what great enjoyment Allah

has in store for you. The only condition for these enjoyments is that

you also form part of the Abraar, and don’t be from amongst the

Fujjar and the worldly people. In another verse Allah explains this

enjoyment,

علىاألرائكينظرونwhile looking on (at the splendour around them) from couches

Here in the world you might have a small little tin shanty. You might

have one or two rooms only. Whilst sitting in one room you are not

able to see what is happening in another room. How vast is Jannah

and the palaces of Jannah? In spite of its vastness everything will be

within your sight without any need for a “CCTV” or even a tracking

system. We cannot imagine how huge will the Jannat of every

individual be.

Page 30: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 26

رففوجوههمنضرةالنعيمت ع You will recognise the radiance of bounties on their faces (which

will be bright and happy). By Allah, if anyone had seen the face of our Sheikh whilst he was living he will bear witness to the freshness on his face. This was to such an extent that the freshness would be noticed even when Hadrat would awaken from his sleep. The Sahaaba used to say, “If we were to see Jannat and Jahannam with our eyes in this world, it wouldn’t increase our Imaan by a single iota. We have conviction in Jannat and Jahannam to such an extent that it is as though we have seen it with the eyes of our heart. How can a person who has seen Jannat not be in enjoyment?

كلي ومهوفشأن

Every day He is in a different splendour

One of the qualities of Allah is that he is in a different splendour

every. In this verse the word day is not in the meaning of day.

Allama A’loosi writes in his famous Tafseer Roohul Ma’aani,

ىفكلوقتمناالوقاتوىفكلحلظةمناللحظات

At all times and at every moment

When one’s Imaan and Yaqeen reaches such a level that one

worships Allah as though you can see Allah , with Jannat being

in front of you then how can’t there be enjoyment on the face. When a person is pleased by something in the world then the enjoyment can be seen on the face. By looking at the wifes facial expression one can tell whether she is happy, sad or angry. The

Page 31: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 27

feelings of a person can be determined by the facial expression of a

person. When Allah keeps people happy in this world which can

be seen on the face, then we can imagine what the condition of

these people will be in the Aakhirah. Further Allah says,

يسقونمنرحيقمتومThey will be given pure sealed (preserved) wine to drink

(completely unlike the impure and intoxicating wine of this world)…

The wine of Jannat doesn’t intoxicate a person whereby he is unable to distinghuish between his mother and sister. The Jannati would be totally conscious of what is going on around him and he will enjoy the wine. May Allah protect the Muslims as there are many Muslims that are addicted to liquor! There was a friend of ours (a student) from Burundi that had accepted Islam. He had become an Alim. His mother was anti-Muslim as she was a firm catholic, but she had also accepted Islam finally. She told her son, “I accept Islam, but I cannot give up my whisky and vodka.” However she had finally managed to give that up as well.

يسقونمنرحيقمتومThey will be given pure sealed (preserved) wine to drink

(completely unlike the impure and intoxicating wine of this world)…

ختامهمسكوفذلكف لي ت نافسالمت نافسون…the seal of which is musk. It is for this that competitors should

compete (instead of competing for the inferior things of this world).

Page 32: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 28

The wine has been sealed with musk. How enjoyable will that be? These are just some Ne’mats which is mentioned in one place. It is for these things we should vie with each other (i.e. race with each other) and not that you are a millionaire and I’m a multi-millionaire. You have got two properties but I have ten properties. These are not the things that we should vie with one another. We should vie with

each other in the things that Allah is inviting us towards.

Deen can be practised throughout the world

We normally say that it is possible for a person to practice on Islam, but in Cape town you can’t do it. No, it is possible in all places, rather everywhere in the world. It was possible hundred years ago and it is possible today as well. The Quraan was a Kitaab for hundred years ago and it is also a Kitaab for this day and age as well. It was for the villages and it is also for the cities. It is for Makkah, Madinah, Cape Town, Johannesburg, etc. Islam is for all times.

ومزاجهمنتسنيمIts mixture shall be of Tasneem…

It will be tainted with the beautiful enjoyment of Tasneem. What is Tasneem? The Quraan itself defines Tasneem in the next verse.

نايشربباالمقربون عي …(which is) a spring (of Jannah) from which those close to Allaah

shall drink This is actually to serve as encouragement for us. Don’t waste our time in the world. We are not here to work hard and work our fingers to the bone, work twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, and finally leave behind everything and go into the Qabr.

Page 33: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 29

There lived a king who owned the entire world. Before leaving the world he made a bequest that when he leaves the world his hand should be left out of the Janaazah, so the world will witness that the man who owned the world is going to the Qabr empty handed. In the past when people were taken to the Qabr the deceased person’s wealth was also taken with. The family members and the wealth would then return but his deeds (good and bad) would accompany him. Nowadays, the wealth is not taken to the Qabr. Up to this day nobody has requested that the key to his safe be put into the Qabr, nor is the bank statement or a balance sheet of a person put into the Qabr.

The burial of a person

The immediate family members lower a person into the Qabr, and the first ones to throw sand onto the deceased. These family members will place wooden planks to seal the Qabr, they will close the gaps between the planks with leaves or mud. They will make sure that the there is a little extra hump of sand on the Qabr so that you are unable to come out of the grave. The friends that attend the burial leave immediately after the deceased has been buried but the family members stay at the grave side and ensure that the deceased doesn’t come out of the grave. He is now dead and gone. So, it is only the A’amaal (deeds) of a person that accompany him. The good deeds of a person take beautiful forms and shapes. It has been mentioned in the Hadith Sharif that the recitation of the Quraan will take the form of a handsome person. This beautiful form will appear before a person even at the time of Ghusl and comfort the deceased. At the time of death, the family members that give ghusl (bathe) the

deceased remove the false teeth that one is wearing, they remove

Page 34: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 30

the glasses of a person, his watch, and the deceased is absolutely

helpless. A person that recited the Quraan Sharif will be consoled at

such a time and he will be told, “I will be with you at this crucial

time, I will not leave you until you enter Jannah”. When Ghusl is

completed and the deceased is being enshrouded then this beautiful

form enters in between the Kafn and joins the deceased. When the

deceased is placed into the Qabr then the two angels Munkar and

Nakeer question a person. This questioning causes fear to enter into

every person whether pious or sinful as these angels have flames

coming out of their mouths. They are tall, dark in complextion and

ugly. Their hair extends up to the ground. In the world, we see little

children keeping long hair so I tell them, “Must I come and open a

barber shop here? I will do good business as there are so many

customers here.” We should keep their hair neat and train them

from small, don’t let them be influenced by other children else they

will also form evil habits. If a tree is not straightened whilst growing

then such a tree will be a crooked tree. You will not be able to

straighten such a tree later on when its firm and strong. Therefore,

we should train them correctly from the start. I usually say that if a

Kurta is put on a child that is a day old, or a week old, or a month

old, then everyone will comment, “You are already making the child

look like a Buzurg.” Similarly if a Burqa is put onto a little girl then

people will say that you are making her look like an old lady.

However, if you put on clothing of the Kuffar then nobody will say

that you making her look like a Kaafir already. As parents we should

protect our children from going in the wrong direction. If we keep

them on the straight path from the beginning then only will they be

in the habit of doing things in the correct manner. This should be

done with love and affection and not in a harsh manner due to

Page 35: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 31

which the children begin to hate the parents. Time is required to

nuture one’s children therefore we should not dedicate all our time

to our businesses, internet and Haraam television. Our greatest

asset is our children, not our businesses nor our properties. Every

person wants to look after his assets therefore we should bring

them up in the correct manner.

Anyway regarding Munkar and Nakeer, they don’t know what is

mercy nor kindness or gentleness. They simply burst into the Qabr

without permission, make the deceased person sit up and

commence their interrogation. We have heard of how people would

be interrogated during the apartheid era when taken by the

intelligence, and up to this day we are aware of the interrogations

and tortures that take place, especially with those associated with

the Mujahideen. This torture and interrogation is nothing compared

to the questioning of the Munkar and Nakeer. However, if one had

recited the Quraan Sharif regularly, then the Quraan Sharif will

appear in this beautiful form. These angels will tell the Quraan

Sharif, “We have come to interrogate this person in camera, in

privacy therefore you should leave now.”

The Quraan Sharif assists a person at all times

The Quraan Sharif will respond firmly by saying, “I cannot leave as

he recited me by day, you may continue with your duties.”

According to certain narrations it has been mentioned that if a

person is unable to answer then the Quraan Sharif will tell you the

answer. If a certain person is ready to assist you by providing

answers whilst you are writing an exam, what problems can you

have?” Once Munkar and Nakeer complete their job, the Quraan

Page 36: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 32

Sharif then organises a bedding from Jannah for the deceased, and

the windows of Jannah are opened upon a person.

We have got an example in front of us on which guides us on how to

live our lives. Hadrat’s coming into the world, coming to South

Africa, Hadrat’s departure from this world serves as a lesson which

we should learn. If we adopt Hadrat’s teachings, this is the Sabr of

the time. The Sabr isn’t that we cry big crocodile tears or cry

throughout the night and miss Fajr Salaah. We should also take

lesson from here that we will also have to leave the world one day.

It was our Hadrat’s desire that how can every person live a life that

will prepare him for Jannah.

Once we were at the Khanqah in Karachi. I told Hadrat that

Alhamdulillah because of your teachings we are enjoying the

bounties of Jannat in the very world already. Hadrat became very

happy and called everyone in the Khanqah and said, “Repeat what

you have said.” He then said, “You are not only performing Salaah

but gaining enjoyment in Salaah, you are not just abstaining from sin

but you enjoy abstaining from sin.” By Allah, this is possible during

these days as well if one trains himself. This is what Hadrat wanted,

he lived for this and died for this. His life mission was that how can

we obey Allah and not just obey but obey with enjoyment.

There are various poems of Hadrat wherein he states that you are

not going to be grieved by giving up sins. In fact you are going to be

happy that Allah saved you from sin. That is the level of Imaan

that we should achieve. This is the purpose of Bay’at and

establishing connection with a Sheikh, then a person will

automatically say,

Page 37: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 33

رضيتابهللرابوابالسالمديناومبحمدصلىهللاعليهوسلمرسوالوننبيا

I am pleased with Allah as my Rabb and Islam as my Deen and

Muhammad as my Rasul and Nabie.

When a person appreciates his Sheikh and expresses it then he will

come into the path which we call Sulook and Tasawwuf and we will

go towards Allah . In short, all the sweetness in the world,

whether its honey, whether its ice-cream, milkshake or whatever

other sweetness is not a million or a billionth of the sweetness of

the creator of sweetness. So imagine what sweetness won’t a

person enjoy if he gets Allah. What beauty isn’t there in the world?

The temporary beauty which Allah has placed on the face of

women, beauty of the sunrise and the sunset, beautiful lakes, rivers,

waterfalls, the seas, etc. is all temporary.

The beauty of Allah

All of these things put together cannot even form a millionth, of a

billionth, of a trillionth of the beauty of Allah , yet a person that

gets Allah has obtained all that beauty in his heart. The beauty of

the worldly things such as the waterfalls, sunrise, etc. is available for

one and all to view, the items manufactured from sugar such as

sweets and delicacies are for all whether Muslim or non-Muslim and

even for animals who eat molasses, but the beauty of Allah is

exclusively for you which the world hasn’t tasted. You are in Jannah

in this very world and this is what we have to strive for. When we

experience sorrow in our hearts we make Isaale-Thawaab but more

important is that we follow in their footsteps and try to emulate

Page 38: Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the love of - ka.org.zaka.org.za/sites/default/files/kitaabs/A great sorrow.pdf · Dua supplicating Allah’s love and the ... sequence in which

Page | 34

them. We will reach wherever Allah desires that we reach but this

should be our ultimate goal.

The desire of a true Sheikh

A genuine Sheikh doesn’t want anything for himself. His greatest joy

is that how people make their Aakhirat, acquire their Jannat, and get

connected to Allah . He doesn’t want people to get stuck in him.

They must by pass him and reach Allah , this is what pleases them.

We generally give gifts to the Sheikh but the greatest gift is to

inform the Sheikh that you are practising upon his teachings for the

past ten or twenty years or you have given up a certain sin. Buying

the Sheikh a car or house or giving him ten thousand Rands won’t

hold that value in comparison to informing him of your

achievements in Deen. This is their purpose and what they live for.

Allah had blessed us with such a great Sheikh who has now left

the world. However the command of Allah is that we should

remain with those that are truthful and genuine in their Taqwa.

When Allah has given the command to be with such people then

it is impossible that there won’t be such people in the world, else it

would have been unfair on Allah’s side to issue such a command. For

example, I once required a spare key to be made so I went to a

locksmith. I travel frequently on that road frequently but never

noticed his store. The locksmiths generally have small stores which

are hidden somewhere in between. I had the key made and then

told him that I pass here so often yet I never noticed your shop. He

replied, “When you don’t need me, you don’t see me, but when you

need me you will look for me and see me.” This is the reality. If we

open our eyes we will see the Saadiqeen. We might not be

interested but they are all around us. When my wife tells me of the

Buzurgs of Makkah and Madinah Sharif that are mentioned in the

Kitaabs then I tell my wife jokingly, “why don’t you see whose

walking next to you.” There are all there but we must look for them

and we will find them. They are in Cape Town and in the world, but

you got to look for them. If you remain in the company of such

people you will also become one of the Abraar and Muqarraboon

(close ones to Allah), and you will also fit under the verse of the

Quraan which states,

إناألب رارلفينعيمIndeed the righteous (Mu'mineen) shall be immersed in bounties

(in Jannah)…

علىاألرائكينظرونwhile looking on (at the splendour around them) from couches

ت عرففوجوههمنضرةالنعيمYou will recognise the radiance of bounties on their faces (which

will be bright and happy).

يسقونمنرحيقمتومThey will be given pure sealed (preserved) wine to drink

(completely unlike the impure and intoxicating wine of this world)…

May Allah make us from amongst the Abraar. Ameen!
