A WORD FROM EDITOR

CONTENT

Hello and welcome to the 5th edition of #DTCC. It’s been a while since our last programme so there is plenty of material for you to get through this time.

Our main square match is between the 1st XI and Cleethorpes. The two sides are at opposite ends of the table however there is no such gulf between the quality of the two teams and it should be a cracking game.

The 3rd XI take on Sessay 2nd XI on the back square and they are looking to put some pressure on 2nd and 3rd place with a win. We hope you enjoy your day at Kings Mill Road. Jamie Kember

TODAYS MATCH - SATURDAY 15TH JUNE

#DTCC03

Today we welcome Cleethorpes to Kings Mill Road for the sides first meeting of 2013. It’s been a record breaking run of form for Driffield 1st XI with nine wins in a row in all competitions. They have been fantastic matches too, especially the incredible run chase against Scarborough and then the 3 run victory over previously unbeaten table toppers York.

However In Cleethorpes, Dave Brent’s men face a tough task. They have plenty of players who can produce some individual brilliance on their day and despite their lowly position have scored some good points this year.

In 2012 the sides shared the spoilswith Cleethorpes exacting revengeon Driffield at Kings Mill Road afterthe Seals had beaten Cleethorpes at home earlier in the season.

This fixture last season saw Aamer Sajjad break the league run scoringrecord when passed the 74 runs heneeded. Current overseas star AbidAli will be hoping to replicate thattoday to get his season back on course.

Cleethorpes themselves attractedtest batsman Peter Fulton who hitback to back hundreds against England recently. It’s set to be a good contest and we hope you enjoy the game.#DTCC

Waaa now Borrr! It’s been a grand few weeks and such like. Everyone in our team is capable of winning us a game and we’ve had contributions from all our lads recently. All I’ve said in the field over the last couple of weeks is “VERY GOOD OL”. Ba Hell he has bowled well and he got his reward nipping out the last 3 against York. Me and the lads have sunk some ale celebrating these wins just because they have been such tense matches. There was no better feeling than being there at

the end when Godders hit those winning runs against Scarborough and listening to the rowdy stand erupt from the middle. They have really spurred us on. Obviously Sammy Dru being injured again isn’t ideal but I was proud of our Slug, Danny Broump-ton. His knock against Doncaster was one of the best for me this year. He dug in for nearly 100 balls and deservedly hit the winning runs against a strong team. We’ve had some tough battles against Cleethorpes over the years and today will be no different. At least we don’t have 2 metre Pete to bowl at. We know the Osmond’s pose a big threat and we will be doing everything to make it 10 in a row. Enjoy the game.

The first XI had never won 9 Yorkshire League/Cup matches in a row up until last Sunday at Hull.

Their two T20 wins over Hull and York-shire Academy stretched their run which started against Yorkshire Academy at the start of May. The Tykes sit 3rd in the league behind Harrogate and York who are 1st. Brenty’s men have dispatched Academy twice now and are the only team to beat York who have been cham-pions for the last 5 seasons in a row. The return of Sam Drury was a major boost as he smashed a century on his return at the Academy, back to back half centuries against both Sheffield sides and then a magnificent ton against Scarborough in one of the most unlikely run chases you will ever see. At 85-6 Sam was joined

by Mark Goddard, what followed was a decimation of Scarborough’s attack. Drury went six mad while Goddard plodded along at the other end. When Sam fell and Tom Chip a couple of runs later Driff were 160-8 needing 73 to win. Captain Dave Brent and Mark Goddard knocked the ball around seemingly with ease and ended up knocking off the runs with 4 balls to spare sparking jubilant scenes in the rowdy stand. Less than a week later saw another thriller at Kings Mill Road. York were chasing 235 to win and at 140-2 were cruising. Nick Hardgrave then turned on the magic as he took 5 wickets. Ollie Ezard then returned to the attack and blew away the tail end leaving York 3 runs short...MORE JUBILANT SCENES! It’s been an incredible run and with Danny Slug Broumpton winning the game last week at Donny things are only looking up. Today they go for double figures. Good luck lads. DTCC OK

FUND RAISING AND AWAY DAYS

#DTCC09

This season fund raising for the club is really taking off with all sorts for people to get involved in. 1st team opening bowler Ollie Ezard has taken the reigns as chief fund raiser and he has come up with plenty of fresh ideas that should help keep our club afloat. We already have the Fantasy Cricket League up and running which has brought 66 entries. Half of those entry fees (£330) will be making it’s way to the club funds at the end of the season. As well as that, all monies taken from the sale of this very pro-gramme will also be added to that fund. We hope to make in excess of £600 in total from the two combined.

Below is Ollie and here is what’s coming up at Driffield Town Cricket Club this summer.

Page 11: DTCC 15th June

AWAY DAY - After last weekend Driffield will once again be taking part in 20/20 finals day at Scarborough. Last season the Seals bowed out in the semi final against York-shire Academy, but as we know they secured a thrilling victory over them in the group stage at Hull last week. The club will be putting on a bus for everyone wanting to go and support the team. Last season saw a large travelling contingent. We hope the bus will be full.

Finals day takes place on 21st July. Bus times will be available through our twitter closer to the day.

ANNUAL T20 DAY - This will be the third year that the T20 day has run and once again Doncaster are confirmed for the event. At the moment we are waiting on confir-mation from York and Beverley.

REVERSE RAFFLE - This will be the clubs main fund raiser for 2013. Ollie came across the idea whilst playing in Australia and has seen what a huge success it can be. The date for the raffle has been confirmed as 27th July. There is a chance for one person to win a massive £1000. When tickets go on sale will come in future programmes however we can tell you they will be £20 and that will include your food for the night which will be a hog roast. As well as that you receive some drinks and obviously that opportunity to win the jackpot!

EDITION 5 10

iPod SHUFFLE NIGHT - This one is in the pipeline but is another hugely successful fund raiser that he saw in Australia. The basic Idea is that everybody chooses a song. Whoever chooses the last song to come on the shuffle playlist wins a set amount of money.

FATHER AND SON BATTLE IT OUTChris Skeltons CS Skuttlers have over taken his dad’s team ‘The Groundies’ this week and jumped to the top of the table. Phil and Boomer are poised to strike in 4th position around 200 points behind. However, If Sam Drury returns Chris could be extending his lead with Sam as his captain, those double points will be priceless.

GROUND STAFF LEAD THE WAYARTICLE BY JAMIE KEMBER

It’s been a fantastic few weeks for DTCC with all teams performing well. The 1st XI are on their best run ever, The 2nd’s had a strong win at Sessay and battled hard for a draw against Zingari. The 3rd XI are looking strong in 4th position. There were jubilant scenes for the 4th XI with a last ball win at Cottingham and the 5th XI snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Andy Rogers and Nick English put on 36 for the last wicket to win at home to Hornsea.

This has meant point scoring has gone through the roof! Nick Hardgrave has been in fine form with both bat and ball. He has been the most prolific point scorer over the last two weeks scor-ing 110 two weeks in a row. No doubt

selectors will be gutted cup games don’t count as he scored back to back 50’s at the T20 group stage last Sunday.

14 year old Andy Rogers has proved to be a bargain at a value of 1. He scored over 100 points last weekend taking a total of 6 wickets and scoring 45 runs unbeaten.

Captains who selected Andrew Chap-man as their all rounder will be delighted with his recent form. He has scored 2 half centuries in 3 innings. The responsi-bility of captaincy has done wonders for his game. With the 2nd XI scorecard still to come in, Steve Harrison is bottom. His team name is very apt....’Is it football season yet?’

FANTASY LEAGUE 2013

MVP WEEK 6 AND 7Nick Hardgrave has had a couple of brilliant weeks helping the 1st XI to two thrilling wins. He’s scored 220 points over the fortnight.

PROPPING UP THE RESTBrother Martin is having a strong cam-paign however poor Steve Harrison is struggling at the bottom. Maybe the update of 2nd XI scores will help!

“WE HAVE PLENTY MORE TO OFFER AND PROMOTION

IS NOT OUT OF REACH”

#DTCC13

With the team sitting pretty in 4th position Tot Richie is hoping this week his troops can turn up the heat on the teams above them. The 3rd XI host bottom club Sessay 2nd XI who have only won one game so far this season and the skipper realises it’s a great opportunity to kick on if they are to achieve back to back promotions: “I’m delighted with how we’ve adapted to life in such a strong division, however we need to now believe in ourselves and realise we are as strong as any team up near the top. We have to be ruthless now and that starts Saturday at Kings Mill Road. We have plenty more to offer and promotion is not out of reach if everyone plays to their full potential”.

He was quick to point out that by no means will they be taking Sessay lightly and with lots of players to come back the 3rd XI will be going all out to stop them. Rubber Addy will be taking the gloves for the first time in the 3rd XI this year after an impressive display for the 2nd XI last week.

2013 has been a mixed bag for the 3rd XI so far but they

are more than competing in a very strong York Senior

League division 3 after being promoted last season.

They currently sit 4th in the division behind Hoving-

ham in 3rd place who Driffield played last week. With

selection issues rife throughout the teams DTCC fielded

a weakened side. However the players called up pulled

through brilliantly to secure an unlikely losing draw.

Number 10, Sam Morris and Number 11, 14 year old Andy

Rogers batted through 15 overs together to frustrate

Hovingham and prove how much strength and depth the

club has.

The week before the 3rd’s won at home to Osbaldwick.

On what is generally a high scoring pitch at Kings Mill

Road both teams struggled. Driffield dismissed Ozzo for

just 107. It looked as if it was game over at tea but the

away side fought hard as 6 of Tot Richies men fell in the

chase. Two Woodcocks, Kev and Dave top scored with 29

and 27 respectively to help see the team home. Earlier

in the day the bowlers shared out the wickets with Rob

Woodcock the pick taking 3-253RD TEAM SKIPPER

TOT RICHIE

MOVE MAGAZINE15

Page 17: DTCC 15th June

Damien Jenkinson has been the top run scorer for the team with 187 so far while skipper Tot

Richie has become the finisher. He averages 82.5 and has scored 165 runs leading by example.

That knock of 68 not out against Pocklington on the opening day his best and one that patrons

who witnessed it will not forget for a long time.

Rob woodcock has been the most prolific bowler so far taking 11 wickets and John Wooley has

been the most devastating. He has 9 wickets at an average of just 8.56, 5 of which came in one

game against Sheriff Hutton.

THE CLASS OF

THE 4TH XI WITH MATTHEW COLE

2 0 1 3ARTICLE BY MATTHEW COLE

Over the years the 4th and 5th team have been renowned for bringing through and giving the

next generation of DTCC top end cricketers their first taste of senior cricket. Here 4th team skipper Matthew Cole gives his assessment of his latest batch of teenagers who are already making a big impression.

JAMES FOSTERAged 18 James is a stylish opening batsman who has been around the club for a while now. The England deaf international has been in outstanding form this season, his 83 v Beverley perhaps a highlight, but the best is still to come. He will also play an important part in the 4th teams 20/20 cup campaign where he will have dual roles as opener and wicket keeper

MOVE MAGAZINE17

JAMES FOSTER AND ANDY ROGERS

Page 19: DTCC 15th June

THE 4TH XI WITH MATTHEW COLE

MARCH 2013 ISSUE 18

BEN LAWRENCEAged 18- Poor Ben suffered a terrible leg break in September 2011 whilst playing rugby. Until that point he was a promising fast bowler, but the nature of the injury has perhaps meant that he won’t be as effective as he once could have been. However Ben has converted himself into an outstanding middle order batsman and is currently the 4th teams leading run scorer.

REUBEN KELLYAged 16 - Earmarked as a genuine all rounder who could get in the team as either a bowler or batsman alone. He has been in fantastic form this season with bat and ball. He is as strong as an Ox already due to his rugby background and his batting is only going to become more devastat-ing when he physically develops further. He bowls quick and can be more than a handful on some pitches.

WILL BRIGHAMAged 15 - Last seasons EYCA division 2 junior bowling award winner has carried on where he left off in the 2012 season. Figures of 3-4 against Skirlaugh earlier this year was a highlight. He has a knack of picking up wickets, mainly clean bowled as his quick skiddy bowling action (due to his small stature) make him hard to face and can take batsman by surprise. He is without doubt the most athletic of the youngsters by quite a distance. His throwing arm is the envy of most grown men 2/3 his size.

ANDREW ROGERSAged 14 - An opening bowler whose action is the most pleasing on the eye. It’s hard to believe he is just 14. He is trusted to take on the role of opening bowler and does the hard work of the innings bowling at the oppositions best batsman very well indeed. Some signs as well he could be a more than useful lower order batsman. He recently negotiated 15 overs to bat out for a draw for the 3rd XI and a day later hit a swashbuckling 31 not out for the French Army from number 9 to see them home with number 11 and skipper himself Nick English. He’s going to be big at this club.

TOM McDOUGALLAged 16 - Not yet played for the 4th XI this season but will play a part at some point. The young scot played a couple of games at the back end of last season and made a good impression (namely his 2 wickets at PSV Immingham). The all rounder missed the early part of the season due to football commitments.

JAY SINGHAged 16 - Jay joined the club this season from Sewerby CC and has played 2 games for the 4ths. He looks to be a good bowler who can generate good pace and ‘Tommy’ bounce. He is also a competent batsman scoring runs for the 5th XI this season. We look forward to seeing how ‘Stitch’ develops this year.

THE SETTING FOR THE SUPER SIXES!

SUNDAY 30TH JUNE 2013 will be 31. Music will be played throughout the day and for the final entrance music and boundary music will be on for the spectators to get involved and really make the rowdy stand rock. Teams will be in coloured clothing and pink balls will be used throughout the day. The teams are as follows:

This years six a side competition is only a few weeks away and things are looking good for a day of six hitting, boozing and

chanting! There are a few changes to the 2013 event that will hopefully add to the excite-ment of the day. Organiser Matthew Cole has invited six teams instead of the usual 8 and the matches will take place on 1 pitch giving people a better chance to keep up with play and opportunities for plenty of heckling. There will also be double scoring zones for bats-man to elevate their teams score even more. Batsman will have the opportunity to hit six maximums in a row as the score to retire on

DTCC MAIL with HARVEY NUN

The captain of the ‘Dewdrop Inn’ cricketing ensemble bumped into the local news-paper sports reporter soon after returning from an away tour. He was asked for the statistics of the team tour. Pondering a while and stroking his chin he replied....”As far as we can remember about 360 gallons of beer and 47 pubs”!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A ‘Make up the numbers’ squad member approached a more senior regular player sporting one bandaged hand and exclaimed “My doctor says I can’t play cricket”. The senior retorted “I didn’t know he’d ever seen you play”!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back to the subject of reportage . I was presented with an opportunity I found simply too good to resist. It was the evening of April 29, 2013 and the sun (it was about that day) was due to set at 20:34. Come 20:50 whilst at a committee meeting of Hutton Cranswick S.R.A, came my turn to report on the doings of H.C.C.C. Following reports given by football, tennis and archery representatives. In serious mode I said “Well I can tell you now that Cranny (U15 v Cottingham) have lost 2 wickets in the last few minutes and they have a ‘seeing-eye’ dog out there acting as an umpire! (I’d made sure my back was not against their playing fields).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly, two chaps were chatting near the bar of their local when one, in a somewhat shattered state said..”my wife’s run off with the milkman”. His companion suddenly looked all gloomy and answered..”sorry to hear that - Yes, now we’ll be one batsman short for Sunday!”
