D&T Pop Up Books This week we are going to carry on making another page for our Egyptian pop-up book using a paper doll chain. Once you have made your page, keep it safely with your box fold page. Then once we have made all of the pages, I will explain how to join them together to make a book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZo68K6vWZ4 Before you start you might like to watch this explanation on how to make a paper doll chain on YouTube. You can even follow along and have a practice first before trying the following… You will need: Sheet of A4 white paper Pencil Scissors Glue Colouring pencils, pens, gel pens (again use whatever you have available at home) 1. Place the paper horizontally (landscape) in front of you and fold it in half from the shorter sides. 2. Cut along the folded line. You should now have 2 pieces of paper. They should measure approximately 15cm x 21cm. Fold one piece of paper in half so that the two shorter sides are touching. This will form the second page of your book. Put it to one side and put the other piece of paper in front of you. We will use the second piece of paper to make the paper doll chain. 3. Make sure the paper is still landscape way up and fold it in half and then into half again. 4. Open up the paper. You should have 4 equal pieces. Now fold it back up along the creases in an accordion or concertina style. Make sure your paper looks like this before you continue. 5. Now draw your person on the top piece of the folded paper. It is very important that your arms are horizontal and touch both edges and that your legs also touch both edges too. 6. Carefully cut out your person. Do not cut along the crease line where your arm and leg touch the edge. 7. Decorate your paper people in an Egyptian style. Perhaps you could turn them into mummies or Egyptian gods.

D&T Pop Up Books

This week we are going to carry on making another page for our Egyptian pop-up book using a paper doll chain. Once you have made your page, keep it safely with your box fold page. Then once we have made all of the pages, I will explain how to join them together to make a book.

Before you start you might like to watch this explanation on how to make a paper doll chain on YouTube. You can even follow along and have a practice first before trying the following…

You will need:

• Sheet of A4 white paper • Pencil • Scissors • Glue • Colouring pencils, pens, gel pens (again use whatever you have available at home)

8. Decorate the page you set on one side with a suitable background of your choice.

9. Carefully glue the first and last paper person onto the background page. If you squash the paper people all back together and close the page around them you can work out a good position. You will need to line up the central fold of your paper doll chain with the crease of the page. The two middle people shouldn’t be glued and will pop out of the page!

Hopefully your finished page will look something like this!

Extension

If you have enjoyed this. Try making another paper doll chain on a theme of your choice. What happens if your legs don’t touch the edges? Will the paper chain dolls still stay together?
