Thiagarajar College
Thiagarajar College was founded in 1949, in the pilgrim city of Madurai, by Kalaithanthai thKarumuttu Thiagarajar Chettiar, a great philanthropist and a visionary of the 20 century. This college is a
preeminent co-educational autonomous institution of higher learning affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj
University. The founder of this institution had a vision of providing quality higher education at an
affordable cost to the rural masses, the downtrodden and the poor to realize the vision of the father of the
nation. The multifaceted mission of the founder is carried on by his heirs, the President Mr. Karumuttu
T.Kannan, the Vice President Dr. (Mrs). Uma Kannan and the Secretary Mr. K. Thiagarajan . With a spirit of
research, the “miles-to-go” attitude, innovative and empowering culture, the college has witnessed
phenomenal growth in 50 years. The college offers 26 UG, 15 PG, 12 M.Phil. and 9 Ph.D. programmes. Due
to constant monitoring of the quality in various aspects of education, the college was initially accredited
with FIVE STAR status in 2001 and subsequently Re-Accredited with 'A' grade by NAAC in 2007 and 2013.
All science departments are DST-FIST sponsored. All the science departments received financial
assistance to the tune of 38 lakhs from DBT-Star College scheme.
The college is situated at a vantage
point, on the Madurai-Rameswaram highway
and in between the legendary river Vaigai to its
north and the famous Vandiyur Teppakkulam
to its south. Madurai has a number of
historical monuments, with the Meenakshi
Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace
being the most prominent.
PG and Research Department of Chemistry
Mission Statement: The Chemistry Department pledges itself to strive for an ideal balance
between knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination in the chemical sciences. Our mission is to
monitor and train our students as scientifically literate professionals with a sense of social
responsibility.
The Department established in 1957, currently offers B.Sc. (Regular), B.Sc. (Self-finance), M.Sc.
(Regular), M.Sc. (Special), M. Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The Department bloomed into a full-fledged
research Centre in 2004, actively involved in research and has produced over 40 Ph.D. scholars and
numerous Post-graduates and M.Phil. students. There are four ongoing major research projects funded
by DST to the tune of 1.3 crores. The faculty members have published nearly 300 research articles in
various national and international journals. The alumni of this Department are rendering their services to
premier academic institutions and industries across the world. A state-of-art laboratory has been
established in the Department with sophisticated instruments such as UV-Visible spectrometer, FT-IR
spectrometer, Spectro-Flourimeter, CH-instrument, and Thermogravimetric analyzer. The Department
has signed a MoU with IIT-Madras, Chennai for doing research and sharing intellectual acumens.
To provide a platform for the young students to set forth and bring out recent innovations, trends and concerns as
well as practical challenges encountered and solution adapted in the field of Chemistry.
To disseminate the research progress and findings to different levels of participants.
To foster and carry out collaborative interdisciplinary research in the state of the art methodologies and
technologies within Chemistry.
To kindle the students towards research and higher studies.

Abstracts of key-note lectures, invited talks, oral and poster
presentations will be brought in the form of proceedings. Selected
papers will be published in a scientific journal (publication charges
may apply).
Best Oral and Poster Presentation award carry a memento
and a certificate. The awards shall be announced and presented in the
closing session of the conference.
Original research papers on the above areas are invited
for presentation in the Conference. Contributors are requested
to submit a copy of the abstract in the prescribed format (not
exceeding two hundred words neatly printed with 1.5 line
spacing on A4 size paper using MS-WORD, font size 12, Times
New Roman). It should contain title, name and address of the
authors with email ID (presenting author of the paper to be
