DSCI Certification Program- DCPLA Training

A discussion was held with the representatives of EFTA countries (Switzerland, Iceland, Leichestien and Norway) on promoting transborder data flow between EFTA and India. The two sides will be working towards addressing the data protection related issues with an objective to relax restrictions on cross border data flows between the respective regions.

Fifth batch of DSCI Certified Privacy Lead Assessor (DCPLA) training was organized under the DSCI Certification Program. The training was conducted in Chennai at the Cognizant premises which was attended by 19 participants from TCS, Tech Mahindra, KPMG, FIS, Cognizant, Infosys, Deloitte, Mahindra Satyam, Valiant Technologies, and Paramount Dataware.

So far nearly 100 security and privacy professionals have been trained through DCPLA trainings.

ISO SC27 Meetings, Incheon, South Korea

DSCI-BSA Study : Security considerations in software procurement by government agencies in India

Privacy Roundtable series and meeting with privacy regulators

DSCI represents India through BIS at the ISO SC27 meetings where development of international standards in security and privacy is undertaken through five working groups. DSCI has been attending these meetings since Oct 2012 and is contributing in the development of standards especially those related to privacy, supplier relationships and cloud computing, DSCI is working towards encouraging participation of Indian industry in standards development process at ISO. India has proposed to host SC27 meetings in India in Oct 2015. In this regard, DSCI delivered the welcome address to the Head of Delegations in the Incheon meeting.

DSCI in association with Business Software Alliance (BSA) is conducting a study on - 'Security considerations in software procurement by government agencies in India' to identify the security practices followed by government agencies in India during the procurement of software. A report incorporating global best practices, current practices adopted in India and recommendations to overcome perceived challenges will be the outcome of this study.

The last meeting of DSCI-CIS-FICCI Privacy Roundtable series, which started in April, was held in Delhi. These multi-stakeholders meetings held in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata discussed DSCI paper on 'Strengthening Privacy Protection through Co-Regulation' and the 'Report of the Group of Experts on Privacy' in detail with the broader objective of creating awareness among professionals. These meetings elicited comments on draft Privacy Protection Bill (prepared by CIS) and proposed legislation for a privacy and personal data protection regime in India.

The last meeting witnessed participation of eminent speakers - Mr. Jacob Kohnstamm, Chairman of the Article 29 Working Party and Chairman of the Dutch Data Protection Authority; Mr. Chantal Bernier, Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada; and Mr. Christopher Graham, UK Information Commissioner. These speakers shared the salient features of data protection and privacy regimes in their respective countries.

On the sidelines, DSCI also organized a separate meeting with the above officials and apprised them on the privacy landscape and recent privacy related developments in India. DSCI also updated them on the robust contemporary practices adopted by the IT/BPM industry to safeguard personal information.

Roundtable conference on 'Security Product Development in India’

A roundtable conference was conducted in Bangalore on the sidelines of NASSCOM Product Conclave to bring the security products and services providers and users on a common platform to discuss the security product development in India. Mr. Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, welcomed the participants and elaborated the overall security ecosystem in the country. Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director General, CERT-In, emphasized the current issues and challenges faced by the country in the cyber security domain. He also highlighted how evolving threat vectors are posing problems to cyber security and highlighted some key areas where the country needs to build the capabilities. Going forward, NASSCOM and DSCI will work together to improve the security product development ecosystem in India.

Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO, DSCI was key speaker and moderator for a panel discussion on developing cybersecurity standards at the 'India Knowledge Summit 2013 Cyber Era - Securing the Future' organized by ASSOCHAM . The discussion focused on the establishment of cyber range to test cyber readiness, improving current standards and development of effective standards for cybersecurity. The other eminent speakers of the panel discussion included - Mr. A. K. Mittal, Senior DDG, Telecommunication Engineering Centre, Department of Telecom, Government of India; Mr. C. S. Rao, President, Reliance Communications; Dr. P. K. Saxena, Director, Scientific Analysis Group, DRDO; Mr. Digvijaysinh Chudasama, Director India & SAARC, Symantec; Mr. Siddhartha Rao, Global Head, Cybersecurity, SAP; Mr. Sunil Sharma, Vice President, Cyberoam Technologies; and Mr. Rajnish Gupta, Enterprise Sales Head, RSA India and SAARC.

Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO, DSCI was invited as a speaker at a training program for IAS Officers' at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Dr. Bajaj along with co-panelist - Gulshan Rai, Director General, CERT-In shared views on the topic 'Government in the cyberspace - Social Media and Cybersecurity'. Dr. Bajaj highlighted the challenges faced by the gov-ernment for responding to the multiple voices raised on the social- media platforms.

Internet Governance Forum

Seoul Cyberspace Conference 2013

Cyber Labs Special Training Programs

Mr. Vinayak Godse, Director Data Protection participated in the Internet Governance Forum-a multi-stakeholder conference focusing on the issues and policies of Internet governance, held in Bali. The objective of this four day meeting was to discuss the theme 'Building bridges - enhancing multi-stakeholder cooperation for growth and sustainable development' and to bring together all stakeholders in the internet governance debate, including governments, private sector, civil societies, and the technical or academic community on a common platform.

Mr. Rahul Jain, Principal Consultant, DSCI participated in the Seoul Conference on Cyberspace 2013 held in Seoul, South Korea. The conference which is supported by governments worldwide attracted participation of over 1000 delegates and experts from more than 90 countries including Ministers from over 20 countries. The conference outcome 'Seoul Framework for and Commitment to Open and Secure Cyberspace' was published capturing key ideas and discussions across six aspects including cybersecurity, international security, cyber crime and capacity building. This framework will be a key input for the next conference to be held in 2015 in Hague, Netherlands.

320 police officials were trained on cybercrime investigation through the standard training programs across the eight cyber labs.

Special sessions on invitation were taken for the Vigilance Department of KIOCL, Bangalore on "Cyber crimes and cyber laws". Over 50 vigilance officers attended the session.

A one day workshop on "Investigation of Cybercrimes" was organized for police officers of Navi Mumbai Police Commisionerate.

DSCI is a focal body on data protection in India, set-up as an independent Self Regulatory Organization (SRO) by NASSCOM®, to promote data protection, develop security and privacy best practices & standards and encourage the Indian industries to implement the same.

DSCI is engaged with the Indian IT/BPO industry, their clients worldwide, Banking and Telecom sectors, industry associations, data protection authorities and other government agencies in different countries. It conducts industry wide surveys and publishes reports, organizes data protection awareness seminars, workshops, projects, interactions and other necessary initiatives for outreach and public advocacy. DSCI is focused on capacity building of Law Enforcement Agencies for combating cyber crimes in the country and towards this; it operates several cyber labs across India to train police officers, prosecutors and judicial officers in cyber forensics.
