4DSCI Analysis of the National Cyber Security Policy 2013
The National Cyber Security Policy 2013 was released by Shri Kapil Sibal, Hon'ble Minister of Communications and IT on July 2, 2013. DSCI has prepared its analysis of the policy and shared with the industry. The analysis identifies the possible opportunities and concern areas in the policy especially from the industry perspective. A research paper competition was organized in partnership with IEEE India Council at the Best Practices Meet, 2013 in Chennai. Authors of 6 papers, shortlisted from over 40 submissions, presented their research to the jury members. After a critical evaluation of the papers, the winners were announced. Mr. Ponnavaikko Murugesa, Head, IEEE India Council and Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO DSCI conferred the award and congratulated the winners. The winners are:

Report on Leading Industry Practices - DSCI Excellence Awards
A report on 'Leading Industry Practices in Security and Privacy' was prepared in association with PwC. The report captures the leading security and privacy practices adopted by organizations, operating in different industry verticals. The analysis was done on the basis of information received through nomination forms in the previous editions of DSCI Excellence Awards.
White Paper on Best Practices for Cloud Adoption by Indian Banks
As a member of the Security Working Group (WG) constituted by The Open Group, DSCI along with the banking sector is developing a white paper on 'Best Practices for Cloud Adoption by Indian Banks'. The white paper will provide inputs on legal and regulatory compliance requirements, challenges to cloud adoption from security, integration and operational perspective and would provide recommendations to banks for migrating their application workloads to the Cloud. This paper aims to compliment IDRBT WG efforts which are focused only on non-transactional and non-customer facing applications.

Outreach & Awareness Best Practices Meet 2013
DSCI held its fifth Best Practices Meet focused on the forward leaning strategies for cyber security on July 12 in Chennai. The meet witnessed participation of over 200 senior industry and government security professionals in thought provoking discussions on various aspects of cyber security and contemporary challenges.
The meet featured panel discussions on several topical subjects, including - National Cyber Security through Public Private Partnership, Cyber Health, Cyber Defense, Demystifying Cyber Attacks, Security Automation & Intelligence, Defending Application Innovations and Defending against Advance Persistent Threats, Bringing Strength & Maturity in Defending Application Innovations.

DSCI Pune Chapter-MCCIA conference on Cyber Security and Defence
DSCI Pune Chapter, in association with Marattha Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture, Pune, organized a conference on cyber security and defense in Pune. Mr. Vinayak Godse, Director - Data Protection, was a co-panelist in a session on 'Cyber warfare and Cyber Security - Defence and Homeland Security Domains', where he highlighted how international cooperation and initiatives can help fight cyber terrorism. He emphasized that various stakeholders including CERTs, Interpol, Law Enforcement Agencies, among others should collaborate at various levels to fight against cybercrime and terrorism.
DSCI-CIS-FICCI Privacy Roundtable series
DSCI continues to collaborate with CIS and FICCI in conducting series of multi-stakeholder round table meetings on 'privacy'- the fifth meeting was held in Kolkata in partnership with National University of Juridical Sciences. The DSCI paper on 'Strengthening Privacy Protection through Co-Regulation' and the 'Report of the Group of Experts on Privacy' was discussed in detail with the broader objective of creating awareness among professionals, and contributing to the development of privacy legislation in India.
DSCI-BSA Workshop on Policy and Legal Issues in the Cloud
A workshop to discuss policy and legal issues in the cloud was organized by DSCI in association with BSA. The workshop was attended by the leading cloud service providers and a senior DeitY representative. Key issues including jurisdictional challenges, lawful access to data, issues relating to cybercrime investigations and capturing of cyber forensics among other were brainstormed. Discussion Paper

National Cyber Security Policy 2013 Release
CEO, DSCI was a co-panelist in a discussion held ion the occasion of the release of NCSP-2013 by the Ministry of Communications and IT. He welcomed the NCSP-2013 as a right step towards protecting the cyber space. While sharing the industry perspective and the way forward in operationalization of the policy he emphasized on the public- partnership models and increasing collaboration between government and industry. Other panelist at the discussion included Mr. J Satyanayana, Secretary DeitY, Ministry of Communication and IT; Dr. Gulshan Rai, DG, CERT-In; Prof. N Balakrishnan, IISc Bangalore and Chairman DSCI and Prof . S. V. Raghavan, secretary, O/o PSA.
Roundtable Discussion on Privacy
CEO, DSCI was co-panelist at the round table discussion on 'Right to Privacy: Issues and Way Forward' organized by ASSOCHAM under the chairmanship of Shri Ram Jethmalani, Member Rajya Sabha and former Law Minister. He underlined the importance of globally ac-ceptable privacy principles, their implementation by organizations through privacy programs based on a set of practices of the much expanded in DPF and their demonstrations through assess-ments. He also highlighted the need for industry self regulation. Other co-panelists included Justice Mr. Govind Prasad Mathur, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Former Member, National Human Rights Commission; Mr. Suman Jyoti Khaitan, Deputy President, ASSOCHAM & President PHDCCI; Ms. Pinki Anand, Sr. Advocate, Supreme court of India and Mr. Amod K Kanth, Eminent Social Development Expert.

Cybercrime Workshop
DSCI in association with the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) and Cyber Crime cell, Lucknow, U.P. Police, organized a 2 day Cybercrime Awareness Workshop for Law Enforcement Agencies on July 26 and 27 in Hazratganj, Lucknow. The workshop witnessed the participation of over 100 police officials. This is the fourth cyber crime awareness workshop organized by DSCI under the Cybercrime Awareness project of DeitY.
Mr. Deo Raj Nagar, IPS, DGP, Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the workshop and expressed the importance of cyber crime awareness for the law enforcement and highlighted that cybercrime is a big challenge for law enforcement agencies today. He also expressed the need to establish more cyber labs across districts. He commended the capacity building exercise being carried out by the Cybercrime Cell, Lucknow.
Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director General CERT-In, delivered a special address on the occasion and apprised the officers about the importance of such workshop. Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO, DSCI while giving the welcome address shared information on how the Internet is becoming a social force today. With 130 million users, more than 950 million mobile users, multiple e-commerce, e-governance applications and usage of social media, it is becoming very attractive for cyber criminals to launch attacks, conduct financial frauds and espionage. He emphasized on the role of DSCI in training the police officials through 8 cyber labs in different cities.

4Special sessions on invitation were taken for Air Force officials, National Institute of Criminology and Forensics Sciences, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh police officials.

DSCI is a focal body on data protection in India, set-up as an independent Self Regulatory Organization (SRO) by NASSCOM®, to promote data protection, develop security and privacy best practices & standards and encourage the Indian industries to implement the same.
DSCI is engaged with the Indian IT/BPO industry, their clients worldwide, Banking and Telecom sectors, industry associations, data protection authorities and other government agencies in different countries. It conducts industry wide surveys and publishes reports, organizes data protection awareness seminars, workshops, projects, interactions and other necessary initiatives for outreach and public advocacy.
