As another month slips by and more texts and images get copied and pasted onto even more blank pages, it’s hard to believe just how many pages have actually passed across my monitors since our inception last July, (it’s 704 just in case you were wondering) not including what I am working on for this month, so the day I finally get the luxury of moving from Adobe Photoshop to InDesign is one I am really looking forward to, as this really will eliminate a lot of the tedious and very repeti-tive tasks that I have to do manually in Photoshop each and every month like page numbering. This is just a very dull and very time consuming task; it’s always one of the last things I do each month. One of the problems with using Photoshop for page layout is file size,as the images are embedded in the file unlike in One of the problems with using Photoshop for page layout is file size,as the images are embedded in the file unlike in Indesign where the file just has placeholders for the images. Also, the more layers on a page, the bigger it gets and there tends to be a lot of layers, it’s a good job I’m prepared when it come to my layers palette, something I learned postworkin-gor some pages would never see the light of day. So even though Adobe didn’t really intend Photoshop as a magazine pub-lishing tool, with some creativity and a lot of blood, sweat, and sometimes tears it can be done, a fact I prove time and time again. Now onto the next page.

Are you a Dazaholic?I discovered some time ago that I surely am a Dazaholic. There is always something needed, even though you may have a thousand items in your stash, you never have what you need There is always something needed, even though you may have a thousand items in your stash, you never have what you need when you need it! Though you know they most likely will have a sale soon, you somehow think you just need that item right now! But one has to keep in mind that the content is not going anywhere; the item you want will be on sale sooner or later, so in order to keep the amount you spend down, try and buy the stuff you really need. Purchase what you know you will be working on and wait on getting the stuff you want just because you want it. Also, make sure to keep yourself safe. With all the security risks that are becoming a daily threat, be wise and use the safest options on the market. If you can buy via the security risks that are becoming a daily threat, be wise and use the safest options on the market. If you can buy via Paypal rather than using your credit card directly, then do so. If you find out a store your purchased from has been hacked but they don’t give out any info about it until weeks later then complain; put down your foot because the stores have the responsibility of informing their customers if anything goes wrong. With the money we spend on the various sites, we deserve to be notified as fast as possible! After all, it’s our money on the line! Peace & love to you all!

HOW DID YOU GET INTO 3D MODELLING/TEXTURING & HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT?It all started with a homepage that I found in 1999. The owner had fantastic images of It all started with a homepage that I found in 1999. The owner had fantastic images of fairies and angels, and I asked where I could get them. The answer I received was "It was done with Poser." So I got Poser 4 as a Christmas Present and I was hooked. Pretty fast I figured out that I am not very much interested in creating renders with it, I was more hooked by the creating part for the figures. Somehow it turned out that I have a talent for doing modelling and special hairs. My first item was created in 2001.

TYPICALLY HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM INITIAL IDEA TO FINISHED MODEL?That can be 2-3 days to some months, depending how hooked I am and of course how much family comes in between. Biggest chal-lenge is to concentrate on ONE project at a time.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR YOU WHEN CREATING A NEW PRODUCT?Oh that is easy to answer. That is just right before I am finished Oh that is easy to answer. That is just right before I am finished with it - just the last few hours before I am done with it. I don't like to zip it up and upload my items to the stores.

IF YOU COULD ADD ONE NEW FEATURE TO DAZ STUDIO, WHAT WOULD IT BE?The render engine. It frustrates me that my DS The render engine. It frustrates me that my DS renders don't have the crisp and sharp look that my Poser renders have. I see so many great DS renders and I cannot figure it out how to do that.

WWHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT CREATING FOR DAZ STUDIO?TTry the program; start learning new things in it, don't give up if it doesn't go like you expected straight away. Mostly it's an experience thing; you won't learn everything in just a few

minutes.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?Everything around me. I see a girl and how she is wearing her hair and suddenly the creating process in my mind starts.I see the hair as mesh already, and I am moving a strand here and there and add some volume... adding a bun... that drives my husband nuts sometimes, he always can tell by my face that I am in "work mode" already.

WHICHWHICH PROGRAM(S) DO YOU CREATE YOUR MODELS IN?I use for modelling 3DS Max but that's not all; there are a lot of other programs involved such as UV Mapper, Headus Layout, Poser File Editor ,Poser and of course DAZ Studio, just to name the most important ones.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT TO MODEL?Hmm its hair - who would have guessed that? But it's true, I really love doing hair and I never run out of new ideas and styles.

HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SEE PEOPLES ARTWORK MADE WITH YOUR PRODUCTS? I really love it. Most times I am just "WOWED" ;that's something I never expected to see. It is nice to see that people grab my basic ideas and bring it to new heights.

promos, so there is no way to answer that with just 3 spots. I rather would name some vendors who created helpful items I could not create without. Dimension3D, PhilC, and Neatherworks. These vendors are constantly creating fantastic little apps who make my life so much easier.

WHICH 3 ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITES OF YOUR OWN PRODUCTS? That is a difficult question for me, since all the hair styles are my "siblings" But if I have to pick then I’d say:

Kono and TamaKono and Tama - they are two different hairstyles but have lots in common. I had so much fun doing them and also doing the renders. They are just screaming "Let’s have some fun!”Gwen hair, is also a hairstyle that to me suggests a "love of life."Lady Emiko hairLady Emiko hair - this is my personal favorite hairstyle of all. Different, edgy and just cool, in my mind!

Now, select destination figure, in this case Genesis 2 Female, and then under [Select], select what to transfer. I always use this setting.

Now, click [Transfer], and GenX2 loads the stuff, and shows the transfer dialog. Here you can name the morph (I named it AS Alice), and you can also select a thumbnail for it. Then click [Accept] and the transfer is done.

Now just load a G2Now just load a G2F. It is important to load her after you have done the GenX2 transfer, or the morph will not be available, and to avoid any problems I applied the Genesis basic gray textures to her.

Select G2Select G2F, then go to the Shaping-tab, and locate the Generation-X settings. On this machine and the DS 4.8 Public Beta I only have two different ones. Now just apply the AS Alice morph.

And here you see it. As you see it looked pretty good, but as And here you see it. As you see it looked pretty good, but as the head wasn’t in the morph, it’s still G2F head.

Transferring morphs using GenX2

I will quickly run this through as I’ve got several questions about this. GenX2 is a brilliant plugin for DAZ Studio from Dimension-Theory, if you don’t have it, go and get it.

So, in this tutorial I will translate the free body morph for AerySoul Alice for V4 to Genesis 3 Female.

First, open the GenX2 Tab, and there you select what base figure to load from.

Then you go to the Poser runtime path / Pose and locate all the morph kits you have for the figure, mostly because if the morph you transfer is based on these they are good to have loaded to make it work.

Select those you might need, and drag them to the GenX2 pane.

“what fascinates me the most of all are lights. I love tinker-ing and testing new

lights.”

However, what fascinates me the most of all programs are lights. I love tinkering and testing new lights or positioning for a better and more realistic rendering.

With each new program, each new tool, my creative universe is expanding.

II always liked to draw, I loved to draw on paper and pencil. Gradually I began familiarizing myself with the computer and discovered programs that led me to leave the LMP and pencils by computers.

All beginnings are very hard. I read a lot about the possibilities of each program and always thought that if I could properly use each tool I could achieve my goals.

ItIt took a while for me to assimilate the concept of light, depth, space, and shadows, but I never got around to wanting to dominate every software that I could access.

II discovered that it was not enough to have the expertise of only one program; I found that to achieve a good result would depend on one or two programs that would improve the image quality and the end result of my work. Even with the right programs, plug-ins and lights, a high-performance computer makes for a very real difference.

My name is Eliane and I am a Brazilian 3D artist. I use Daz3D software along with the plug-in Reality.

On my list of favorites programs are Carrara, which is also the family of Daz, and Photoshop CS6 for retouching and color correction.

Zbrush, 3DMax and CD4 are programs to get me studying; I always try to learn a little more about each software.

Many people ask me about my techniques and ask for tips on how I do my images. I try to explain that the main tool that I must have is my imagination; without the imagination no one can perform any work right. After studying, and studying hard on each of the tools that are available. Without knowledge of the programs, their capabilities and limitations cannot get the expected result, and can often be very frustrating.

ItIt would be like putting someone in a workshop without them knowing how the tools work; anyone can have the greatest imagination in the world, but without the knowledge of each tool, in addition to not getting the expected result may take much longer than anticipated.

I still have a long way to go, but I feel that in each of my works a little of me grows.

I'mI'm not the kind of person who sit in front of computer with a pre-defined image, the work will grow and develop throughout the development, most of the time what I thought at the beginning becomes something completely dif-ferent.

Talking about me, it may seem strange but for those who've seen my work and think that I live in a big city with lots of activities and technology. It’s not true, as Ilive in a coastal area with 74 km of beach is called Ilha Comprida. With few resi-dents and more natives, here is a very quiet life in which my favorite transport is the bicycle, because here everything is close and the sea is a neighbor.

When the dialog comes up asking if you wish to over-write the existing Runtime folder click "Yes" and your new items will be installed to the Poser Runtime you've added.Properly set up Poser products will have the required file Properly set up Poser products will have the required file structure so there is no need to create any internal files when you create your new folder for your Poser items. When you install them, the product will set all that up for you when you add it to your Poser collection.

Items to watch for in the Poser content you wish to add to use in Daz Studio.

Poser Dynamic Items will not work properly in DS as Poser Poser Dynamic Items will not work properly in DS as Poser and DS have different ways of handling Dynamics. Make sure you check the items you buy to see if they are Dynamic and look at the Product Readme files to see if they offer both Daz and Poser versions before buying Dynamic content. If the content is Poser only then it will most likely not function in DS.WWeight-mapped Figures for Poser also do not function properly in DS so this is something else to double check before buying for use in Daz Studio. Again this is because DS and Poser handle Weight-mapping differently so these items generally are not cross-compatible between the two programs.Procedural Materials for Poser won't function properly in Procedural Materials for Poser won't function properly in Daz Studio either. Items using procedural materials may still function as figures or props in DS but the materials may need to have textures or surfaces manually set using Studio's Surfaces Tab. You'll have to decide if you want to use items or not that include Poser Procedural Materials, and again this is something that you can check for in most product readmereadme's.Poser Light sets may work in DS but the effect of the lights may be different than how they look in Poser (I've used some Poser light sets in DS without issue but needed to manually adjust the settings for the lights in the DS Parameters Tab). Of note how-ever is that Ambient Occlusion and IBL light sets may not work in DS from Poser (I'm not certain of this as I don't use AO or IBL Lighting for my renders).PMD based Poser Morphs no longer work in DS, nor do items PMD based Poser Morphs no longer work in DS, nor do items using Poser Magnets, so you'll need to check any products you wish to use in DS to see if they require either of these.Poser Python Scripts also cannot be used by DS so you'll be unable to add these to Studio.

There seems to be a lot of confusion, with Users new to DS, about using Poser Content in Daz Studio so I thought I would explain how to set DS up to read a Poser Runtime. For those of you already familiar with this capability in Studio, this Tut won't add much, but new users can greatly benefit from the expansion in what they can use in their Library.Adding a Poser Runtime to Studio will allow you to buy items Adding a Poser Runtime to Studio will allow you to buy items and get freebies from the many 3rd Party sites that cater to the Poser market and then use them within Daz Studio. It is fairly simple to do and will greatly increase the range of products and freebies available to you for use in your Studio scenes along side your Daz Studio items.

Now most Poser content can be used in DS with only minor Now most Poser content can be used in DS with only minor adjustments needed to surfaces to suit your rendering needs. Poser Hair (Hr2), Props (Pp2), Poses (Pz2, Fc2 or Hd2), most Figures (Cr2), and most Pz3 Poser scenes will function in Ds just fine. Also DS can now read Poser's Materials files (Mc6, Mc7 etc) so most of these should work in DS as well with a little tweaking once loadedTTo get your Poser Content to work in DS you will need to add a Poser Runtime to your Studio through the Preferences Menu... I'll provide a step-by-step set of instructions on how to do this below...*As a side note, if you are using both Daz Studio and Poser *As a side note, if you are using both Daz Studio and Poser you can use the following method to add Poser's runtime to your Daz Studio Library by following the instructions and navigating to Poser's Runtime folder instead of creating a new Runtime. Anything you install to Poser will then also be available for use in DS...

Create a Folder where ever you wish to install your Poser Create a Folder where ever you wish to install your Poser content (DS requires a separate Poser style runtime structure to get Poser items to load properly and to display properly in the Content Tab) and give this folder an easy to remember name (My Poser, Poser Stuff or what ever you like). It doesn't matter where you create this folder so you can place it where ever you choose to suit the way you want your files stored. This is where you will install any items you buy or stored. This is where you will install any items you buy or download that were intended for Poser rather than made for Daz Studio.Inside this new folder, create a folder named "Runtime". When you unzip the products you purchased you can copy the Product Runtime folder into the folder you created above.

Use this navigation window to navigate to where you created the new folder earlier, and select it, this will add it to the list under "Poser Format" in the Content Directory Manager. Congratulations, your new Poser Content is now ready for Congratulations, your new Poser Content is now ready for you to use in your Studio scenes!

* As a Final Note: Poser items that you add to this runtime * As a Final Note: Poser items that you add to this runtime will function in Studio, but most will need some manual tweaking to surfaces and materials for best effect in renders with Daz. Most users tweak things anyway when setting up a scene to get specific desired scene effects from their lighting and atmosphere in the image they are creating. New users should get comfortable with modifying and tweaking surfaces and materials as they learn to use the features of surfaces and materials as they learn to use the features of Daz Studio...Also I cannot guarantee that every single Poser item out there will function properly or at all in Studio, but this method should allow you to use most Poser items...

Once you have created the folders, and have added some Poser Content to the library you will need to set Studio up to read a Poser Runtime. To do this Click on "Edit" and select the "Preferences" option from the Edit menu. This will open the Preferences Menu Window...

In the Preferences Window navigate to the Content Library In the Preferences Window navigate to the Content Library Tab and select the "Content Directory Manager" button to open the Content Directory Manager Window. This is where you add a new Content Directory for Studio to use.

Now we add a camera and place it in one of the corners of our lake. That is to get as much water as possible. It’s important to turn off the headlight on the camera or this will not work. We now add a cube with the size 100 m.

We rotate it 45 degrees, lower the height a little, and place it so the

camera is outside it. camera is outside it.

We apply the IrayUber Base materials to the cube, and now for some important fixes. Turn all glossiness to 0. Turn Refraction Weight and Refraction Index both to 1. As you see now the cube is invisible in the viewport, so it’s Important to place it correctly. You can always turn Refraction always turn Refraction Weight down to zero again to make it visible. DAZ Studio 4.8 beta with Iray has been out now for a while, DAZ Studio 4.8 beta with Iray has been out now for a while, and we all struggle to find the best ways to use this beast. Many of our old tricks and solutions just do work anymore, as Iray is a very different render engine. One thing to keep in mind, if you do not have a machine filled with Titan-X or M6000 cards, always work in textured preview mode and use the Iraypreview for quick test renders.

In this tutorial I will use some stuff I learned from SickleYield In this tutorial I will use some stuff I learned from SickleYield about making volumetric fog and some things I’ve discovered myself regarding making great looking sea water. I will combine both of these ideas into one image.

First, create a basic primitive plane in DS.

This is the bottom of the lake. This is the bottom of the lake. We will move this down to -500, Y-Translate -500 (which is 5 meters depth. We need a texture for it, and I’ve made a simple lake bottom in Filter-Forge. First, apply the IrayUber Base shader to it, then set the Base Color to the texture map. Set the Horizontal and Vertical Tiling to 10.

Now add a new plane and keep it at ground level. Apply the Iray Water - Dispersive shader to it. Now, add a water wavy normal map to the water. A quick render using IRay default sun and sky.

Switch the lighting in the “Environment” panel of render settings to “Dome and Scene” (or the light will not be visible.)

Now I just add a ship to the image to add some more flare to Now I just add a ship to the image to add some more flare to it. I used the Tramp steamer from DAZ. Now, just render, but remember that the fog is generated through SSS (Sub Surface Scattering); it will add some render time to the render, but it’s worth it.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Let’s switch on Iray preview and take a look.

As you see the horizon is still barely visible, and we have a As you see the horizon is still barely visible, and we have a foggy day on the sea, but can we do more? Let’s be a little wild and crazy and play with something really cool in the mist. Let us add a prop (it can be any prop, but I decided to use the Parkside Point and Parkside Point Ground, both are PC items by Jack Tomalin.)

WWe place the lighthouse so it will appear about one third from the edge. Then we add a strong Iray spotlight sending a beam out from the lighthouse, slightly angled towards the camera.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO 3D MODELLING/TEXTURING & HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT?I discovered Poser in 2003 which inspired me to start learning modeling, because at that time, there weren't many clothing products on the market. I first started with props and later on moved to clothing.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?I look for references online to get some ideas and then start modeling, making changes I look for references online to get some ideas and then start modeling, making changes along the way until it feels right. I also get inspiration from online games, in addition to the anime my husband watches. We both have quite a few ideas.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT CREATING FOR DAZ STUDIO?To be patient and keep working in Daz Studio, since practice will help them to be better.

WWHICH 3 ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITES OF YOUR OWN PRODUCTS?Cotton Candy for G2F

Minoko Suit for V4

Spirit Blade for V4

All 3 of these products are avail-All 3 of these products are avail-able through Renderosity.com.

WHICH PROGRAM(S) DO YOU CREATE YOUR MODELS IN?I still use 3DS Max, but lately I have been using a lot of Hexagon2.

TYPICALLY HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM INITIAL IDEA TO FINISHED MODEL?It really depends on the model and how many parts are included in the whole product. If it is something small then typically a few days, but if the clothing has more parts, then of course it will be more time until it is finished.

WHATWHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT TO MODEL?Shoes and lingerie. Although, I also like to do fantasy clothing sometimes.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR YOU WHEN CREATING A NEW PRODUCT?The biggest challenge is finding an unique idea and then creating the product. :)

IF YOU COULD ADD ONE NEW FEATURE TO DAZ STUDIO, WHAT WOULD IT BE?I am still trying to get better with DAZ Studio, as I just started using it more when the Genesis 2 Female came out, so I can't think of anything right now.

Now click accept and suddenly your characters pose is reversed.

Disaster averted…carry on rendering.

1: In the Scene tab select the figure to be swapped. 2: Go to edit/figure/symmetry. 3: Set the following in the options dialog box: Nodes – Selected Propagation –Recursive Direction – Swap Left and Right Trunk Nodes – Mirror Y/Z Rotations

So, you have chosen the perfect character for your scene, gotten the clothes fitted with the textures set, added hairwith the perfect hair colour, and now you move onto the pose. You look in your content library and find the perfect pose, butrealize two problems: one is that the pose is facing the wrong way; you need your character facing the opposite way. The seconds is when you realize that the pose creator has not given you the mirrored versions of the poses. Disaster.

So what can you do? Well you could select every body part individually, take a note of all the corresponding parameters settings and then reverse them all by hand. But a much less painful way would be to simply swap to simply swap the pose using symmetry.
