What a year this is; we are only a quarter of the way in, so 2015 has to be the year that DAZ Studio truly comes of age. The start of the year gave us Reality 4 and now DAZ3D have shown us the future with the recent release of the beta version of DAZ 4.8 Iradium, complete with Iray. In addition, Reality 4.1 is close to release, which will bring us even greater rendering speeds. That’s quite a lot in just 3 months, which makes you wonder just where we can still go during the rest of the year.

On a more personal note, 2015 also brings about our 1st anniversary and I want to repeat what Camilla said above; we want On a more personal note, 2015 also brings about our 1st anniversary and I want to repeat what Camilla said above; we want to celebrate with an awesome competition, so we are asking some of our DAZ vendor friends to help us out with some prizes, to ensure that our anniversary competition will be extra special

Camilla Drakenborg • EDITOR IN CHIEF

It's March, which means only one more month (is it 1 or 2?) is left until our one year anniversary! We're actively trying to get some goodies together to celebrate that, so consider this a call out to all the vendors and what not we know! But can you believe it; from idea until now, already 1 year! Crazy! But to keep it going for another year, you all know what is needed; fantastic images and your insightful tutorials. Remember that they don't have to be pages long, and you may not think they will matter, but think back and remember when you first started in DAZ Studio. Ponder on that, and tell us what you wish you had known then, that you know now.

Reality is the first program that introduced physically-accurate, unbiased rendering to the world of DAZ Studio, five years ago. We are at the forefront of this technology and we continue to lead with the most accurate, most feature rich rendering solution for Studio. While the performance improvement is nice, we are going to introduce many more features that will improve the workflow for the StudiStudio artist. I can't quite divulge those improvements at this time but they will be very significant. Reality 4.1 is scheduled to be released in a few weeks and will be a free upgrade for all Reality 4 users.

Reality 4.1 will work with LuxRender 1.5, which provides up to ten times the rendering speed compared to LuxRender 1.3. In our tests, what took 35 minutes to render with LuxRender 1.3 takes now 5 minutes to render. This is with CPU rendering, no need to use the GPU. GPU processing has also improved drastically but at this moment I'm focusing on the CPU part because it provides the best, most accurate renderinrendering in the industry.

Reality 4.1 is coming

HOW DID YOU GET INTO 3D MODELLING/TEXTURING & HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT?In my teens to early 20s, many of my weekends were spent playing tabletop RPGs. No In my teens to early 20s, many of my weekends were spent playing tabletop RPGs. No geek shaming, I loved it and have very fond memories! One of my favorite things to do (in game time, much to my GM's frustration) was to render my characters, back then with a pencil ;) Then I discovered digital renders of dragons online, done by hobbyists circa 1999. I tracked the images back to Poser and was quickly sucked into the 3D world. I liked recreating my characters in 3D but found a dearth of hairstyles. I sold my first hair-style at Renderosity in 2001 and my first outfit at DAZ3D in 2003, and I still produce models regularly today. models regularly today.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR YOU WHEN CREATING A NEW PRODUCT?Starting.I was going to leave it at that one word reply, haha. So true, right? There are many pro-So true, right? There are many pro-crastinator types in our 3D world and I'm no exception. Often I am still daydreaming about the last product, what I could change, what I could add, what other renders I wanted to create with it. I get hung up. After a few days of this I hung up. After a few days of this I just have to shake myself and pick another WIP to subdue.

WHICH 3 ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITES OF YOUR OWN PRODUCTS?My top three favourites of my My top three favourites of my own creations are Deeta Hair, Calais Hair, and a recent one Thian Hair because I liked the whole Mei Lin package that DAZ and fellow DAZ brokered artists created.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?On the odd occasion I encounter other people, it's very likely I will be checking out the coif. I don't frequently wander far from the rock I live under so the more "creative" styles I make are more likely a pastiche of multiple heads from TV, movies and magazines.

WHICH PROGRAM(S) DO YOU CREATE YOUR MODELS IN?I model and uvmap in LuxologyModo and DAZ3D Hexagon, texture in Adobe Photoshop I model and uvmap in LuxologyModo and DAZ3D Hexagon, texture in Adobe Photoshop and render in DAZ Studio and Poser.

IN YOUR STORE THERE ARE HUGE AMOUNTS OF HAIR, IS THIS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO MODEL AND DO YOU SEE YOURSELF MODELING OTHER THINGS IN THE FUTURE?As previously mentioned I like rendering character portraits and can find most assets As previously mentioned I like rendering character portraits and can find most assets such as skin and clothes already in the 3D stores. However specific hairstyles elude me, therefore I continue to model my own hairstyles. Sometimes I would need to create other non-hair pieces for the character but those times are rare. Besides, I have too many hair ideas to venture far from it for too long.

TYPICALLY HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM INITIAL IDEA TO FINISHED MODEL?Most months of the year I can't do 3D modelling full time due to other commitments, so Most months of the year I can't do 3D modelling full time due to other commitments, so if there must be a deadline I try to avoid projects of less than four weeks. On rare occa-sions a model can flow out complete within fifteen days but on average I would say it is closer to three weeks for me. In any case, I'm not sure I could do 3Dmodelling full time even if circumstances allowed. It's the sort of job that I need frequent breaks from so ideas can settle or just to break up some of the tedious parts -- there are MANY tedious parts!

DAZ Studio was originally aimed at hobbyists so though I'd like to say "make what you enjoy" that should go without saying for a hobby! Who picks a hobby they don't like doing? So... I don't really know what else to say except "Incremental Save" is your friend!

IF YOU COULD ADD ONE NEW FEATURE TO DAZ STUDIO, WHAT WOULD IT BE?In light of recent events* this might even be coming true: the feature to automatically In light of recent events* this might even be coming true: the feature to automatically "make scene 3d printable." It would analyze the scene and thicken any single sided surfaces or find open volumes and close them up to make the whole scene water tight. I have many characters I'd love to have printed!* DAZ3d introduced 3d Printing in February 2015. http://www.daz3d.com/newsletter/2015/special/01-29print/01-29print.html

HOWHOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SEE PEOPLES ARTWORK MADE WITH YOUR PRODUCTS?I don't often see my items used but when I do I get excited and humbled that the 3D artist chose my model to be part of their artwork. There are a lot of talented artists in our 3D world.

CAN YOU GIVE US A HINT OF WHAT IS TO COME? Coming soon is a pet project character I am finishing now that involved non-hair pieces Coming soon is a pet project character I am finishing now that involved non-hair pieces (I'm hoping it may be released by the time this gets published!), but primarily I have quite a list of hairstyles to do, so for the forseable future hair is just what I'm focused on.

WHICH ARE YOUR 3 PERSONAL FAVORITE VENDORS?I can immediately name more than three but you'll have to allow me my couple of pairs because they work great together: - Mada& Thorne, I even met them in person in early 2014, I was thrilled! - Moyra and LaurieS have been long looong time favourites, I just love their artwork and style. - Ron Deviney, I use his Photoshop brushes a lot. I just know as soon as I save this file I'll I just know as soon as I save this file I'll remember twenty more I could have listed. I do have many favourites, though I remember the above five easiest right now as I just used some of their items in a render. ;)

Iray® is the world's first GPU accelerated and physically correct, photo-realistic rendering solution. When combined with the parallel processing power of the latest NVIDIA® GPUs, Iray achieves interactive speeds that dramatically reduce the iterative creative process of perfecting a scenescene. Unlike most production renderers, Iray delivers results that reflect real-world behaviors, liberating designers from needing expert knowledge of computer graphics techniques to achieve photo-realistic results.

The Iray "push-button" rendering approach marries ease of use during scene setup with the highest quality photorealistic final frame output and interactive performance. Iray also progressively refines the image until maximum fine detail is reached, providing a single process which combines interactive pre-visualizatiopre-visualization and final frame rendering.

In last month's DS Creative we featured our Q7A with DAZ3D the people behind DAZ Studio and less than 2 weeks after publication the public beta version of DAZ Studio 4.8 is released. If you read between the line from the answers DAZ gave to some of the questions it was apparent that something big was coming, something that required a nice 4gb nvidea card.

SSo when it was announced that the beta had been released and that DAZ Studio now included the option to render using Nvidea Iray a Physically biased renderer that will allow DAZ Studio users to achive the levels of quality only previously available to artists who use 3DStudio Max or Cinema 4D with render engines such as Mental ray or Vray.So Now this really ushers in a new era for DAZ Studio users.

The new DAZ Beta is out and it is mindblowingNEW HORIZONS

SECOND, THE SAME SETUP BUT WITH UBERENVIROMENT SET IN GLOBAL ILLUMINATION MODE, OR GI, WHICH IS AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN COME IN 3DELIGHT TO PHYSICALLY BASED LIGHTS. RENDER TIME 330 SECONDS.

3DELIGHT RENDER WITH UBERENVIRONMENT 2 AND DISTANT LIGHT (DAZ DIMENSION LIGHT SET), RENDER TIME 85 SECONDS.

SO, WHAT IS IT IN FOR YOU?

I decided to take two vehicles and render them with different settings in both 3Delight and IRay, for you to see the difference in both quality and render times. The render time will vary, but as all these were made on the same machine, both 3Delight and IRay, the difference in time is relevant, not the times themselves. The hardware used for these test was a MacPro 2012 with two 2.4GHz 6-Core Xeon processors, 32GB RAM, and a nVidia GT 780 card with 6GB VRAM.

First, Thunderstruck by DzFire, a very nice madmax post-apocalyptic truck.

When it comes to shaders, this is a little tricky; much the same way shaders written for Poser Firefly won’t work in DS 3Delight, shaders for 3Delight won’t work in IRay. Texture based shaders usually work pretty well, but shaders written in shader language won’t.

TherThere is a package of IRay default Uber shaders with DS 4.8, and if you just render the scene, DS will try to transform the shaders to IRay, usually this works great, but sometimes they will need a little help, by you.

SHADERS

The next thing to think about is your scenes. Textures, specially huge textures will eat up that VRAM pretty fast. Using TextureAtlas to shrink textures for items in the background is a very good idea. Think of it this way; the eyes of V6 in the background will be about 10x10 pixels on the final render. Do you need a 4096x4906 texture map to accurately render a 10x10 pixel eye?

TEXTURES & TEXTURE ATLASFirst, as every DAZ Studio version will contain numerous fixes for bugs discovered in earlier versions, there are several fixes in this version too. But the main feature is the introduction of a new render engine, nVidia IRay. 3Delight is still there and will, as far as I know, always be there. IRay is the new pig on the farm; it is the same render engine you find in more expensive packages, such as MentalRay for 3D Studio Max.This is an unbiaseunbiased physically based render engine, top of the line.

To use IRay, you need to have Cuda installed. Cuda is the nVidia software package for using video card GPUs to do calculations. It has been used for many different things, like BitCoin harvesting. Cuda works with CPU only systems, but to really benefit from it you will need an nVidia based video card. What counts here is both Cuda cores and VRAM, but if you have to choose between VRAM and Cuda cores, VRAM will enable you to to render larger scenes using the video card, while Cuda cores is the measurement on how much more render power you will get from the card.

There are many cards out there, and if you really like the look of IRay renders and is willing to spend between three and five hundred dollars, you can get a great card.

There are a few things to think of, like the Ti (Titanium cards) with two GPUs sharing the memory, which in fact really gives you just half the VRAM for each GPU. A six GB VRAM Ti is for Cuda really two 3GB cards. 4GB seems to be a usable amount of VRAM.

For IRay I once again used the HDRi image for environment, lights, and the sun.

This car is nice, but lacks some of the classic car attributes like a lot of chrome and shiny paint, so I decided to do the same thing using Car Mark by Petipet (a Platinum Club Item).

For the IRay renders I used a HDRI environment image and built in sunlight.

I SET THE IRAY UBER SHADER TO ALL MATERIALS, SUED SOME OF THE IRAY METAL PRESETS FOR THE SHINY METAL, AND ADDED AN IRAY CAR PAINT SHADER THAT I JUST CHANGED THE COLOR ON FOR THE PAINT. THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS WITHOUT SPENDING EVEN MORE TIME ON SHADER TWEAKING. I ALSO USED THE IRAY GLASS PRESET FOR THE WINDOWS. THIS TOOK 1085 SECONDS USING CPU ONLY, AND 184 SECONDS USING BOTH CPU AND THETHE GPU.

RENDERING THE CAR WITH NO MANUAL MATERIAL TWEAK, LETTING DAZ STUDIO TO THE TRANSLATION TO IRAY MATERIALS, IT TOOK 795 SECONDS USING ONLY THE CPU, AND 164 SECONDS WHEN I USED BOTH CPU AND GPU.

NOW I AGAIN SWITCHED THE UBER ENVIRONMENT OVER TO GLOBAL ILLUMINATION AND THE RENDER TIME JUMPED TO 612 SECONDS.

THIS IS 3DELIGHT USING UBER ENVIRONMENT (DAZ DIMENSIONS LIGHTS). RENDER TIME WAS 33 SECONDS.

I USED THE UBER IRAY SHADER PRESETS ON ALL SURFACES, AND DID SOME TWEAKING FOR SOME OF THE MATERIALS THE WAY YOU WOULD DO USING ANY OTHER EXTERNAL RENDER ENGINE LIKE LUXRENDER OR OCTANE. ADDED SOME TRANSLUCENCY AND METALLIC SETTINGS TO SOME SURFACES. RENDER TIME USING CPU ONLY WAS 220 SECONDS AND WITH CPU + GPU IT TOOK 33 SECONDS.

THIRD, RENDERED WITH 3DELIGHT MATERIALS USING THE BUILT-IN CONVERSION OF MATERIALS. USING ONLY CPU, IT TOOK 183 SECONDS. USING BOTH CPU AND GPU, IT TOOK 26 SECONDS.

DS CREATIVE MAGAZINE • April 2015 • 25

Page 26: Ds creative 10

IRAY RENDER: 359 SECONDS USING CPU + GPU, 2055 SECONDS USING CPU ONLY.

Conclusion after my tests. IRay is definitely here to stay, and it is very good for things like cars. I haven’t figured out yet how to make figures look as good as the cars, but someone will, I’m sure. IRay is fast compared to 3Delight using extremely high settings, but 3Delight is faster when using CPU for moderate render settings. I never use “bad render settings”, but when you hit extremes, 3Delight is slower. The downside is as always, before you find some good settings for materials, it will be trial and error. IRay is a winner on hard surfaces, but at least I need more time before I can get soft surfaces as good looking.

IRay also have two render modes, Photoreal and PrevieIRay also have two render modes, Photoreal and Preview, which all of these were rendered using Photoreal. TherThere is one thing I almost forgot ( or two really). The AUX Window preview renders will not work if you have switched the render engine to IRay, but instead you have a new preview mode, IRay preview. A word of warning, DO NOT use that to try to move, pose, or shape things UNLESS you have a rack full of ultra-fast video cards. It won’t cope, but it’s great for getting quick previews. Remember though, that there is a separate setting for this mode, and if you have a low VRAM video card, you might crash and burn going into the preview mode. It should fallback to CPU… should...but I’m thinking this not happening. It can be my Cuda version or nVidia driver version that causes it though.

So, what are the pitfalls with the new IRay render engine? There must be some! First of all, if your scene doesn’t fit on the graphics card VRAM, IRay will automatically fall back to CPU rendering. This is automatic, but as you know with all automatic things, they can fail, and if they fail DAZ Studio will just sit there looking stupid, saying it is rendering but if you take a look in the log file it will tell you otherwise. As this is a beta, this is probably a known issue that DAZ will fix for the final release, but it is annoying.

AnotheAnother issue is how your VRAM will magically be eaten if you run your main screen, or screens on the same video card you want to use for rendering. Remember that the Open GL meshes, textures and your GUI window’s backing stores are all on the video card already, happily chewing away your precious VRAM. So I think, but I haven’t tried this as I don’t have a second small video card that doesn’t require external power to test with, that running your monitor on second video card will help you free some VRAM for rendering.

But, now some of you will tell me I did not give 3Delight a fair chance, so I will, using Dimension Theory’s But, now some of you will tell me I did not give 3Delight a fair chance, so I will, using Dimension Theory’s HDR Pro Set Yosemite, DzFire’s Real Metals and Real Paints, and a better glass shader by OmniFreaker. For IRay, I took the iRay setup car, added the HRD from Yosemite as environment ,and rotated it to match the 3Delight render.

“It's my husband's fault that I got into working with Daz Studio in the first

place.”

Eleven years ago, I quit my job so that I could take the time required to look after my husband's elderly mother. After her passing due to cancer, my time and attention was then turned to his father who was suffering from Alzheimer's. Again, after he passed, I devoted myself to my Grandfather, who dealt with dementia and a myriad of other physical health issues. After I lost Pop, I went back to filling time betweenbetween home renovations, my family's riding stable, my little man, my husband, and the rest of my family. Even with all of that, I still felt out of sorts. That's when my husband, Greg, told me to go find something that I could make MINE.

So after surfing the internet one afternoon for nothing in par-ticular, I happened to stumble upon Daz Studio. It looked very interesting, was free and I thought, "Why not?!"I had absolutely no frame of reference for this type of artwork, as my mother has always been the artist in the family, using oil paints to paint, so I was brought up around the concepts of traditional artistry mediums. Still, I figured playing around with something like this could kill some time, and what could it hurt? It might actually be fun, right? That being said, there really needs to be a label or somethingon the DAZDAZ site, because, as we all know, it's highly addictive. That was four years ago, and now I can't leave my computer without going into withdrawal.

It's my husband's fault. II know we like to blame our men, husbands, or what-have-you, for plenty of reasons (sorry fellas, it's our thing, and we're good at it), but in this case it's actually true. It's my husband's fault that I got into working with Daz Studio in the first place. No, he isn't using it himself, or has anything to do with it at all - he's actually rather technologically challenged - but he is the one who encouraged me to go off and find something of my OWN that I could do, or become a part of.that I could do, or become a part of.

My days are now spent juggling family, friends, horses/farm, DAZ, and in many circles I'm better known as Saidge42, but honestly, I don't mind one little bit. Keeping busy keeps me out of trouble, and since trouble is something that I am quite good at, busy is a very agreeable alternative. I live for the art that is mine, adore my commission and promotional work, and am looking forward to moving into the role of vendor in the future.future. What I really love about DAZ is that for all the learning I have done, and still have left to do, there are a million happy accidents that make me scramble to write down what I just did because goodness knows, if I don't, I'll never be able to recreate it. There is just as much accidental discovery as there is text book learning, and that is just down-right fun.

So yes, I found something that was mine, and I am very thankful to DAZ for that. My life has quite literally changed. Anyone who knows me can see where my inspiration comes from - everywhere and nowhere, all at the same time. At one point or another, every family member and friend has made an inspirational appearance, and my little man is just chock full of ideas, though admittedly, not everything born from the mind ofof a highly imaginative eight-year-old boy is suitable to render. My husband has also been a great source of inspiration, in giving me the opportunity to create several amazing original characters that he has put to some very good use in a literary way. Even my grizzly bear father, who I swear is a closet interior designer (though don't tell him I said that), has inspired a render or two. I am very fortunate to be flush with much in thethe way of life experience; strange and interesting people and animals from which to draw upon.

This is my 3rd favorite; it works well as a wet look hair for both guys and girls or just a nice hair that looks good on fighters.

I am 39 years old and live in Texas. I love working with art, and enjoy working with digital 3D because I can see my visions better. 3D allows me to bring my visions to life. I prefer working with DAZStudio, as I find it easy to work with. I do my post work with Corel Paint-post work with Corel Paint-shop,which is very similar to Adobe Photoshop. I am self taught, and have been working with DAZ for about 3years now. I prefer fantasy to most other art styles. http://tigerleeart.net/

Either of those methods will work perfectly fine, but my preferred method is to create a new camera (name it eye_target or whatever you want to call it) and then return to the “Point At” setting and select eye_target. Do this again for the left eye and now your figure is looking at the camera.II highly recommend going to Lighting/ Cameras and select-ing the side by side view. Now set one view to your render camera and the other view to the eye_target camera, so that you can move the eye_target camera around and see the results in the rendercam view in real time.

Why would you want to engage in all this complex behavior when you can just manually position the eyes? Because once the eyes are locked to a target, you can move the head (or the entire figure) and the eyes will continue to look at the target you've selected. Con-versely, you can move the target anywhere in the scene and the eyes will automatically follow it with no further effort on your part.effort on your part. Also, these methods guarantee that both eyes will be in agreement. If you manually pose the eyes, you run the risk of having a cock-eyed stare (assuming that wasn't your intention).

So here's looking at you kid....

hey say the eyes are the windows to the soul, so below, Alex Ledante demonstrates how to get those eyes

under control to get your character looking exactly where you need.

GoGo to the scene tab, select the right eye, and under Param-eters/Misc the only parameter available should be “Point At”,which by default should set to none. We will be pop-ulating that setting with different values in this tutorial.

You can always set this to any item in the scene, with the caveat that the eyes lock to the translation point of that object, which is rarely where you will want them to point unless the model is quite small or far away.

WhatWhat if you want the eyes pointed at a certain part of the object? Then you'd have to create a nullobject(In the Main Menu/Create/New Null). This will spawn a “Create New Null” dialog. Name it “Eye_Target” (or whatever you want to call it) and move the null object to wherever you want the eyes to look. Then return to the Point At setting and select eye_target. Do this again for the left eye and youryour figure is looking at the null. Now we can move our eye_target null and the characters eyes will follow it.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO 3D MODELLING/TEXTURING & HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT?In the vast world of 3D, I have made my home as a texturer. Many moons ago (1999), It In the vast world of 3D, I have made my home as a texturer. Many moons ago (1999), It was after the death of my Dad that I found myself scribbling, painting, and muraling walls in my house, seeking respite from my broken heart. A friend of mine (noticing I was running out of things to paint on lol) suggested I look into CG Art, so I did. My search led me to Poser 4, and as I investigated it further, I was more and more intrigued. Back then, DAZ was just getting ready to release Victoria 1.0, and I quickly snapped her up as soon as it hit the shelf. I mainly focused on artworks back then, just posing the figure and exporting it out bald and naked and painting the rest of the image in photo-figure and exporting it out bald and naked and painting the rest of the image in photo-shop. I started posting my works on community galleries, and they caught they eye of my good friend Thorne. We became quick friends and she suggested I try my hand at making skin textures for her fae folk. So I did.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR YOU WHEN CREATING A NEW PRODUCT?MATs/Shaders. Did I mention how much I hate setting those up? Lol.

IIF YOU COULD ADD ONE NEW FEATURE TO DAZ STUDIO, WHAT WOULD IT BE?Automatic MAT files...ugh...I hate doing MATs! I would legit pay someone to do that for me.

WHATWHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT CREATING FOR DAZ STUDIO?I would probably just say have FUN! Experiment, see what you can do in there...it's amazingggggg!

Once I found I had a bit of a knack for it, I expanded into clothing....and then architecture. I did briefly model a few things in zbrush around the time I was playing in that app to create character morphs, but the poly count was so high I could do nothing with it and honestly, I could not wrap my head around subdivision back then, not to mention UVs, so I adjusted my focal point back to just textures. Around that time I had met Mada, and she made a comment to me after I textured one of her lovely sets. She said, "Sarsa, I think you can and will be one of THE best texture people out there."Being humble as I amand not very good at taking compliments, I was like, "nahhh" and just continued silently not very good at taking compliments, I was like, "nahhh" and just continued silently learning and doing my thing. The rest is pretty much history. I took a firm seat with DAZ around 2006, joined the PC team a few years later, and Im still at it. Paying my bills doing what I absolutely love, I couldn't ask for anything more.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?Oh gosh, that's a tough one. My eyes on a daily basis search unconsciously as I float along, Oh gosh, that's a tough one. My eyes on a daily basis search unconsciously as I float along, storing tidbits in my mind. The world is full of inspiration, if you just simply exist. Now when I say that, I have to explain that my vision of the world is a bit offset perhaps. It's a beautiful place rapidly filling with horrid things. It's a dichotomy of sorts that creates images that dance around in my mind....but I save that for art. ;) Speaking of which, I truly need to post some new material...it's been a LONG time since I finished a piece.

WHICH PROGRAM(S) DO YOU CREATE YOUR MODELS IN?I use DAZ Studio, Poser 2014, Photoshop, DeepPaint3D, and Blacksmith.I use DAZ Studio, Poser 2014, Photoshop, DeepPaint3D, and Blacksmith.

TYPICALLY HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM INITIAL IDEA TO FINISHED MODEL?Texture work completion always depends on how many pieces and how the UVs are set up. It can take anywhere from a couple hours to days to even a week.

HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SEE PEOPLES ARTWORK MADE WITH YOUR PRODUCTS?I love love love LOVE it! It's a big beautiful circle of inspiration...it makes for shiney happy feels - even if the art is dark and morbid! (I believe it's no secret that I do fancy the dark and morbid stuff.)

CAN YOU GIVE US A HINT OF WHAT IS TO COME? I cannot. My lips be sewn by DAZ. But...I promise there's LOTS I'm working on that will I cannot. My lips be sewn by DAZ. But...I promise there's LOTS I'm working on that will be showing up in the near future. LOTS. :D Especially with the new version DAZ Studio!

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOUR CONTENT TO BUY?I'm pretty scattered around...I still have product at Renderosity, RuntimeDNA and HiveWire, but the vast majority (874 products and growing!) are held at DAZ. I rarely broker work anymore these days since I am on contract - but hoping someday soon to squeak something in.

WHICH 3 ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITES OF YOUR OWN PRODUCTS? Ohmygoodness. I'm not even sure! Am I allowed to include the works I am commissioned by DAZ and PC? I particularily like these:Andromeda for GIS ProjectAndromeda for GIS ProjectMedusa BundleLady of the Lake Clothing BundleMaman Brijit Textures

Now, set X-Scale to -100% and you have a left side driven car.

Render and enjoy!

Sometimes the separate sliders for X/Y/Z are hidden, so you will need to click in the drop down menu and enable “Show Hidden Properties”.

So how can I fix this? Select the car, and then go to the Parameters tab, Transform, and Scale tab.

Almost every car in the DAZ store and in all the other stores as well, is modeled for those of us who drive on the right side of the road. But if you are like me, who prefer accuracy before artistic freedom in renders, making an image of a location where they drive on the wrong (left) side of the road will leave you with images that doesn’t look accurate, and that is what this tutorial is aimed to cure.

I found this small and lovely little English village for DAZ I found this small and lovely little English village for DAZ Studio in the March Madness.

I thought Iwould add an old 1930’s car to it for the timeworn look. First, to get the car to stand on the cobbles, I look from below and use the tilt X/Z plus adjust Y sliders to make the wheels barely poke through the ground.

A quick render reveals that this item, as so many other items, A quick render reveals that this item, as so many other items, uses reflection map materials for chrome and that really doesn’t look good, not in my opinion anyway.

I go to select the chrome and grill parts and use Eva1 Metalize Dark Metal Shaders on that. Now it looks better. But wait, the wheel is on the left, the wrong side of the car But wait, the wheel is on the left, the wrong side of the car for a car to be driven on and the wrong side of the road. Some vehicles do have a left<->right side driving morph, but those are very rare. It makes the whole image look wrong and cheap, just like the movie “A Beautiful Mind”. In the movie when he is to receive the Nobel Prize (named after Alfred Nobel), the big prop in the scene says “The Noble Prize”. It pokes your eyes horribly; you’ll need eye bleach to make it pokes your eyes horribly; you’ll need eye bleach to make it unseen.

But there is one more thing that can go wrong, and it isn’t visible from here, only from the back side.

The license plate is now mirrored, so are the meter The license plate is now mirrored, so are the meter textures as well. You can use the technique I will now show you to fix them additionally, as the plate is an American plate from New York City. I would probably look for something British, but it if was just a plate with letters and numbers it could pass.

Go to the surface tab, select the plate surface and set Go to the surface tab, select the plate surface and set the horizontal tiling to -1, then use the horizontal offset to slide it in place again.

If the plate wasn’t a separate material zone, you can use If the plate wasn’t a separate material zone, you can use the surface selection tool to select the polygons for it and make that a separate zone. That can be rather diffi-cult if the plate is in a larger polygon, so I will leave that for now. Then it might be best to just make your own material and replace the license plate part of the texture with a mirrored one; Gimp and Photoshop are your friends for this.your friends for this.
